Carnage AR vs Cyclone

I had gotten the cyclone in the sale a few months back, a very worthy buy especially for the infiltrator. I use it on the HA when I want a change, but stick with the jackhammer for those situations. Do you guys think the Carnage AR is worth it if I already have the cyclone? If it matters, I use varying playstyles (hipfiring with jackhammer or cyclone infy) or adsing with Gauss Saw, even at closer ranges. If it is worth it, what attachments should I get?

Would forward grip + silencer + scope be good for a primarily ADS but hipfire on a whim build.

Cyclone is an SMG. It will outperform any assault rifle in close quarters. If you're not going to use your assault rifle much past 20 meters, then you're better off with Cyclone's better hipfire accuracy, half the bloom per shot when hipfiring and marginally higher DPS along with 167 damage bullets.

Conversely, if you are going to be attacking at medium range, then Carnage will perform better, because it's more accurate down sights (except when walking) and has far better damage at range along with far better bullet velocity. Cyclone will drop three tiers to 100 damage at 46 meters, while Carnage will drop only one tier to 125 damage at 65 meters. This means Cyclone will be doing 125 damage already at about 20 meters. Past this range, it no longer makes any sense to prefer the Cyclone.

That's all it boils down to. Cyclone excels in CQC, while Carnage is a mid range weapon that's still great in CQC. Take your pick based on how you play.

As for attachments for the Carnage... the biggest factor here is the recoil pattern. It has straight up vertical recoil along with variable and strong horizontal recoil, along with a first shot multiplier of 2.5 (also quite high) - in other words, the recoil is hard to manage. It's clearly a short range assault rifle.

Sights: given the recoil, zoom scopes make zero sense. I'd stick with the iron sights, but reflex 1x and 2x are both decent choices, it's a matter of preference.

Barrel: compensator is pointless, the weapon has lower vertical recoil than the Gauss rifle, for instance. Suppressor and Flash suppressor both optional, a matter of preference and playstyle.

Rail: adv. grip will make the tough recoil somewhat more manageable, but some other AR's will still be better for mid range even without a grip. Personally I'd rather kit it out for maximum CQC potential with the adv. laser sight, the damage and velocity already make it much better for mid range than the Cyclone. In short, adv. grip will make the weapon more consistent over different ranges, while the adv. laser will "max out" its CQC potential.

    0m <--- Cyclone ----> 20m <--- Gauss Rifle ----> Infiinity

Carnage is a solid gun but I've never been a huge fan. Tross and/or Reaper is the pinnacle of NC ARs as far as I'm concerned but there's no better value in a weapon in this game than the Gauss Rifle

    Well the GR-22 is quite good.And it's 250 certs...

I've auraxed every NC AR, some multiple times over

The GR-22 is hot garbage. If you want something to fill that role the Carnage is your best bet. Same DPM, nearly identical dps, access to ALS, 0.75x, and more importantly the reload isn't as goddawful. More versatile too, with access to both advanced attachments.

The Carnage is also free if you select it in the quiz, and is 250 certs in any case as well.

Good for CQC yes with good hipfire accuracy and 1900 DPS. But recoil (vertical: ↗ 30° - ↗ 40° o_O ) and high ROF somewhat kill its mid range potential.. NC1 Gauss is much better for mid range even with sub 1700 DPS. Not only that but the GR-22 is singular among NC AR's in that it drops two damage tiers from 143 to 112 @ 60m, while the Gauss only drops one damage tier to 143 @ 75m. Huge difference.

The Cyclone really doesn't have a place on a medic. You can get similar or better hipfire out of the GR-22 without sacrificing all of your ranged potential, plus an overall lower TTK. The Carnage is outright a better weapon if most of your engagements are in ADS. There are a couple niche situations where you might want it, but overall you're giving up your ability to kill people past 20 meters for a weapon with questionable ADS accuracy and a TTK that doesn't pull ahead of what you can achieve with other guns in the AR lineup.

I'd recommend getting the carnage if you don't have it already. It's an extremely potent weapon and also something that's unique to the NC arsenal. For attachments grab the forward grip and a 1x scope, you can forget laser because this setup and that 0.75 ADS movement means you won't need to hipfire except within a few meters. Don't put anything on the barrel, compensator is a waste and the silencer cuts your bullet velocity by nearly half.

I dunno, the Cyclone has FAR superior DPM (5845 w/ exmags v 4290) and almost a full second quicker reload on top of that. Its hipfire is better stock, and it only drops 12 damage lower than the GR-22. You give up ADS accuracy but I find the hipfire is tight enough to score you kills at ADS ranges. Will you win against a SABR that's pointed at you? No, but the GR-22 will lose that one too.

For me it comes down to uptime. The GR-22 doesn't have much, and I find that will cause you to miss kills or get killed way more often than a bit more efficacy at 20-40m will earn you

The GR-22 may be better at 40m+, but at that point you'd be better off with a Rebel or Commissioner. I can't think of a single reason to use the GR-22 over the Cyclone except cost, and even that's complicated because the Cyclone is cross-class

Carnage is a great versatility choice with an emphasis on up close. Personally I just hipfire with my Reaper/Tross and knife if I need to but I'm lazy. When I'm not so lazy I'll use the Cyclone or Gauss Rifle with a laser.

If you can't find a reason to use the GR-22 over the Cyclone you aren't looking hard enough. For starters you're seriously undervaluing the massive difference at range. The GR-22 gets 150 RPM, 12 damage, and a full COF bloom tier over the Cyclone at 46 meters. Using the Cyclone at these ranges is like shooting an EM6 that takes 10-13 bullets to drop someone, plus has harsher side to side recoil that make shooting the 20-round burst you'll need to confirm a kill all but impossible. On the flip side the GR-22 has predictable pull, so you can usually keep it on target long enough to score a kill at range. Even 20-25 meters is enough for it to pull a substantial TTK lead. Also I hope you're joking about going pistol primary at 40+ meters. Any of the 800-RPM ARs wreck face at those ranges if you aren't terrible at leading and recoil comp.

If you're okay dismissing ranged performance as a weapon selection issue (you shouldn't, there are 20 meter engagements in all sorts of CQC environments) then you still have to deal with the fact that ADS is better than hipfire. If your target is ever in a position to shoot back at you nothing beats ADSing at their head. Even the Cyclone's ADS is better than its hipfire, and it has some seriously lame ADS. With that in mind, being in ADS more often when engaging targets should be one of your goals and nothing says "good choice" like picking a gun that gives good returns on doing that. Enter the GR-22, which outperforms the Cyclone substantially in ADS due to its lower base COF plus the fact that it keeps the 0.75 ADS speed. On top of all that ADS negates some of the DPM advantage by letting the GR-22 keep a higher accuracy. There are times when your hipfire will serve you well, but generally its main use is either panic mode or for dedicated solo Infil/LA players who want to run around ganking people without slowing down to ADS.

You have some okay points about the Cyclone's DPM and reload advantage but if you play well it's something you can learn to deal with. Learn to control your engagements, to get ADS in CQC, and to conserve bullets, and the Cyclone starts to look like a crutch for when you just want low-effort kills by running up to people. Guns like the Carnage, and to a lesser extent the GR-22, offer a lot more return on skill plus the promise of never being ineffective at dropping people.

It all goes down to your playstyle, basically:

-Mostly CQC (5-10M), and you feel like using something that won't leave you totally hopeless at range like a shotgun = cyclone
-Mostly Mid range with some CQC (10-50M) use the carnage, but make sure you identify if you hipfire more than you ADS, or it's the other way around. Nice thing about the carnage is that you've got the option of both the advanced forward grip and advanced laser sight, which means you can set this weapon up to be quite effective for your playstyle.
-Mid to long range (25-30M+) stick to the default gun, carnage is quite good at these ranges, but you'll just have an easier time fighting people if you go for a forward grip setup.

Not always, the high-ROF AR's with an advanced laser sight outdamage SMG's up close.
  13. cruczi

Point blank, yes. But any longer than point blank, the Cyclone wins because of having half the COF bloom per shot from hip.

    You sir are horribly missinformed!

The GR-22 is FREAKING AWESOME and its only 250 certs! ;-)

For a Medic i just see no use for the Cyclone. If your in a Biolab or something that sort of CQC pull a Shotty. If you want close mid pull a GR22 anything over that pull a Reaper or Tross.

Leave the SMGs for the Infils and cheesey HAs (still think your better with that JH but you know...... directives n that).
