Im loving this game, good chance my brother and his friends are gonna get in on it. But there is a big hurdle, communication and the ability to teamwork. last night it took probably 40 minutes for me to explain what i could and eventually get us on the same map, squad, and try to coordinate anything. We couldnt get voice chat to work ingame, im assuming we need some third party programs? ingame chat is SOOOO cumbersome, cant chat while dead, have to manually type the shorthands instead of just hitting a button to reply (at least i couldnt find one). Basically i want the added fun of playing with friends/family, but at the moment that seems like a major and difficult hurdle. im sure ill figure out more and hopefully it will get easier. any tips?
Teamspeak/Ventrilo - It's really invaluable Also: before they start, point them towards wiki's and videos designed to help and assist new players, it would -really- do them a favor to have a bit of knowledge about the game before they begin. Especially considering the New Player Experience is being stuffed into an intergalactic washtub with an automatic weapon and being hurled into combat while somone shouts "NOW GO HAVE AN EXPERIENCE!" Edit: If they've started already, those wiki's and video's will still have useful information for them and it reduces the burden on you having to explain the minutiae of this rather big game to them. Also avoids the WELL YOU DIDN'T TELL US THAT pitfall
In game communication is currently "Broken". I can't think of any other way to put it /re for Realm chat to just talk to faction members doesn't work 9 times out of 10, causing everyone to use /yell and give away all faction specific information directly to the invading enemy. Text type chat does work in /say and /squadsay, although, TBH sometimes just trying to use these and bring up the chatbox with alt, locate messages, and respond in kind mid battle is no less difficult than arming an inter-continental ballistic missile. I won't even start on my testing of the in-game voice after release. Best bet is just to use Skype, or for any more than 3 people, can't go wrong with team-speak or any other VOIP program.
