Can we get brighter nights or build in night vision/better lighting?

This feels like nothing compared to Beta nights. Headlights actually meant something back then.

Or youre using 1920x1080, 1280x720 or 4K over HDMI or Display Port and youre in the wrong color space since Nvidia drivers set it to RGB 16-235 and your monitor is expecting RGB 0-255.

If you use DVI or a non-TV resolution youre fine but you probably need to calibrate your monitor.

If youre in the wrong color space no amount of calibration can fix it.

I was more referring to the game's systems. even with properly configured system settings, I still feel the game could benefit by the changes I described. mainly making textures more saturated, and effects (shield glows, tracers, etc) less so.
  4. BlackDove

I think a lot of that has to do with the texture filtering and the fact that the game uses FXAA instead of real antialiasing. Makes the game look terrible compared to other DX9 games like Portal 2 or TF2 which you can manually configure to use 8xMSAA and 16x anisotropic filtering in.

If you have an Nvidia GPU make sure your texture filtering quality is set to high quality. Its set to quality by default. This helps but doesnt affect the WAY too bright tracers or color saturation issues.

Im pretty sure theyd have to fix those things on their end.
  5. Aquilae

oh certainly, that's what I was suggesting.
  6. BlackDove

For those specific things its on their end.

But a lot of people are likely misadjusting their monitors to compensate for the fact that theyre using the wrong color space for their monitor. I mean how many people use 1920x1080 over HDMI? A lot.

And how many people adjust gamma and contrast etc without knowing what they actually do?

A lot based on the comments in this thread too.

And as for the guy who doesnt want to change his brightly lit room for the ability to play a game with a day/night cycle. He could turn the backlight up lol. Stuff like that makes me say wtf?

You should read the threads where people start talking about vsync and dont even know how it works. Drives me insane.

Well, that was informative. The issue with incorrect settings between Nvidia cards, monitors, and the game was something I never actually knew about. That would probably explain why I hate in-game night so much.

On the plus side, I fried my Nvidia graphics card (which is apparently what I did to break my PS2 rig), so I'll have to replace it.

.....that awkward moment when killing your hardware is a "plus side."

Not sure what year this game takes place in... But in 2008 in the U.S. Army every solider has a pair of NV goggles... Just sayin

Well i like my Nvidia GPU and bad code can fry any GPU that has a boost feature, Nvidia or AMD.

If you thought this thread was informative heres a 6 page thread about how it likely fried your GPU and why the game runs like **** even on high end machines, and gives Nvidia users that black screen at terminals.

Seriously everyone would be better off underclocking their GPU or limiting its power target so it cant boost in PS2.

Was refering to game balance. I'm sorry, I should've clarified.
I understand Thermals can see farther. Hell even Thermal res these days are very high. IR Wavelengths are amazing to work with.

I was suggesting more design opportunities more than anything else so that each had a Risk/Reward feel. One clearly wouldn't trump the other.
NV would be for simply illuminating the darkness but at the cost of resolution.
IRI for higher resolution imaging and tracking capabilities. Imagine the concept on SC:Ghost (Blizzards long canceled FPS) where you'd see the foot prints or tracks made by units for a time as heat on the ground until they cooled off. Wouldn't that be neat?
  11. Goden

I'm actually in favor of removing nights completely.

It adds nothing to the game and just makes people frustrated due to camo/character appearance differences.

No true night tactics have ever happened in this game and all night does is make targeting players a tad more frustrating.

Heh. Would you look at that? I followed the link you provided, and then another link from there, and stumbled on this:

Planetside 2 and BL:R are my two favorite shooters. Other than that, what I gleaned from the thread you referred me to, and others that I found from that one, was fairly limited. The more technical the discussions got, the more it all started reading like Greek to me. I have several techie friends, and the minute they start going into technical computer stuff, my eyes sort of glaze over and I just to use context clues to follow along as best I can.

Also, mind if I PM you? I've got some further system related questions that I'd much rather not bog this thread down with.
  13. Zapon

    It would- now i'm mad

because Socom Confrontation had this very feature with the footprints- but is now gone
    :(

as for risk vs reward....I dunno. I prefer ARMA's version which reflects the real devices- where NODs are pretty decent, whenther goggles or on a scope on your weapon, or both- but thermals in some cases far out class them in capability, but NOT usability.

Unfortunately in this community, negative feedback rings louder than positive. The example given LibertyRevolution is still brighter than beta nights. I noticed that weapon flash wasn't as good as well. In beta, the beautiful part was doing target acquisition from muzzle flash and tracer rounds. So awesome.

You can PM me or post in my hardware guide thread any questions you like.

Id prefer you post them there in case other people have the same questions.
  16. BlackDove

I totally disagree. Night combat on a properly configured system is great. Although they did make them a little too dark.

Id recommend that Sony sends them a one of these and have some people calibrate the games lighting and color properly. Im sure Sony could loan them one at least.

    Darker nights, not brighter.
  18. Krayus_Korianis

If we get darker nights, I propose we get free night camo so we can keep up with the VS.

    Seriously fix your monitors.
  20. Stopper

I truly hate playing during nights on Indar and Amerish : way too darks and too longs.

It's really annoying and tiring to see absolutely nothing during 30 or 40% of the playtime...

And it makes absolutely no sense that in a futuristic setting, you can't even have night vision goggles / helmet or, now, an implant... We can revive fallen soldiers but not see in the darkness without having to look in a scope... You know, that x1 NV scope that has a sway...
