Can we get brighter nights or build in night vision/better lighting?

For some time now we have the darker nights on Indar and nights on Amerish are also somewhat dark. From time to time i play on these continents during night times and i see some need for improvements.

For my personal feeling the nights, especialy the ones on Indar, are way to dark. This comes from several reasons. First of all is simply the way the human eye works in darkness. I dont play inside a dark room so i have light area around my monitor with a very dark picture on it. The Second reason is simply game design. The game doesnt offer any utility to infantry to help them improve vision in the game and bases are designed with way to less lighting at all. A good example for this is Zurvan Amp, it has large areas with no Lighting, even the exits from the south-western spawn room are not lit. Big buildings also only have a small amount of diffuse lighting. Im not sure if the Bug that Skyboxes and Shaders are not changed correctly after continent switching has something todo with it.

Im aware that players usually simply turn the gamma to max or change there screen to max gamma, but i think some improvements should be done. Either the nights should get alot brighter, like the ones on Esamir, or the Lighting needs to be vastly improved by getting bases lit alot better. I also could think of adding night vision (not thermal vision) to Infantry so they can improve there vision.

Nights are already brighter and look to be as bright as day in some cases.

Doubt this will get better, many wish for it to be darker so that there is actually a reason for the NV scopes.

You won't get much support on this, a vast majority of players are calling for darker nights.

I do agree though that bases need to be lit more though, however a darker night would give us reasons to use our headlights again :p

The last thing we need is more midnight sun times of Esamir. Its boring to not have proper nights. Amerish nights are kinda ugly.

Solution: darker nights, light amplification implant (like NV on vehicles).

    I'm a monster, I'm sorry.

We want darker nights not brighter. Esamir is already waaaay to bright, needs to have long bright days along with long dark nights instead of this.

The VS want darker nights because it helps them cloak without stalker/hunter cloak being activated.

Esamir actually has a fairly dark but short lasting period when the sun is between south and south-south west. Thats when things are really dark blue. Before and after that things are purple bright.

Btw OP, at least Nexus will be good for you. Its nights are even shorter and brighter than those of Esamir.

But occasional very long and dark nights would be awesome.

I actually hate fighting at night, so it's not WE.

I have no interest in darker nights.. who is this WE you speak of??

They tried it on the test server a while back, people complained and they pulled it.
So it seems you are in the minority.

Here is video of when they ran the test on PTS (Oct 25th, 2013):

Skip to 3:20 when you get tired of seeing me walk around in the dark and want to see a dark biolab fight.

Im okay with it, its a challenge.

Would that be the same vast majority that loves short TTKs?

But honestly, while I have turned my brightness way up to compensate for the nights, I find it's far more useful to just redeploy to a visible continent.

Did you not see the trending thread 'Bring back the beta nights!'?! There were easily hundreds of supporters!
  15. LibertyRevolution

There was no thumbs down option on that thread.

    They put it on PTS.
When it came to live it is 20 of pretty dark right before dawn on indar.
They switched they say and night cycle on amerish so users would not have to deal with it.
I say feedback against it won.

"Bring back the beta nights!" was a HUGELY supported thread. You need to search for it to see the opposition you are up against.

Bases needed to be more lit, yes; but the scale and scope of PS2 isn't just an FPS, it's a War Game. Attacking during Night is supposed to be a different event than attacking during day time. If you want your night brighter or perminent implants for EZ-Night Vision 2000; then you're asking for the Day-Night cycle to simply being a graphical feature - in which case... why don't you suggest just removing night altogether because that's exactly what those supporting "Brighter Night" will ask for next (The option to just shut off the Day-Night cycle).

    I do not support this.

I support -effing PITCH black night but I also support better lit bases.
This doesn't mean I support us being blind. I just want more reasons to use Thermals vs Night Vision choices when Night fall comes.

In reality, NV systems have very good sight range in comparison to PS2 NV systems.
In comparison, Thermals are shorter ranged, but provide tracking abilities and better target ID.

Add depth to the game; not remove it and make it more shallow. I mean, come on people. Why do you some of you even play PS2? There are plenty of FPSs without "Dark" nights cycles for you.

There is an option to reply and have your say, I got enough fingers to counter the number of people who dislike it! (Do feet count?)
  18. Inex

I would so desperately love to see how continent populations fluctuate with day/night cycles.
  19. Takoita

Uh, no, not everyone supports that bundle of insanity dubbed 'DARKER NIGHTS'. I, for one, don't want to fiddle with the gamma setting each and everytime I run in / run out of a building. If you chucklehigbys want a 'better experience', play with your own personal settings to achieve the effect and don't ruin the game for all others.

No, this fails to provide what darker night provide of being able ot move under cover of darkness to get close to or get by enemy forces without them spotting you as they do in daytime

Aka ARMA levels of true darkness- with filled particles so gamma tricks are rendered useless aka the whole 9 yards

Of course, seeing as how night optics are
the most nerfed thing in-game to date even now
    https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2...ndard-optics-night-vision-irnv-thermal.53280/
    - they'd need to revert all night optics to their original state(regarding range, thermal color palette, and for thermal objects highlighted- perhaps with an expansion of number for this one), perhaps not counting the NV hue effect they removed

Most games that provided true darkness are old ones that died out- and the new popular ones dont have that immersion factor- PLanetsid 2 is planned ot have tons of immersion from weather to lighting- and that hasn't changed- I see no reason to derail that effort
  21. Zapon

In reality, thermal systems FAR OUTRANGE night optics

because passive amplification goes a decent bit, and IR spotlights a bit farther (it gets tricky avoiding leakage into visible at increased power levels- ) but the longer wavelengths of the mid and far IR bands at the point where blackbody emissions allow one to see objects glowing , travel farther due to their wavelengths-

So no, thermal systems should have extreme range, not shorter range- that makes no sense

Other games have implemented this with success- the ARMAs are one- SOCOM series was another...
