Can this game survive...

Oh I agree, if we are beating our faces at a hard to cap base, someone needs to take the bases surrounding it.

But if we are going to base the game around avoiding eachother for map superiority...Well...Meh, can I have my monies back?!?!?

People who purposely avoid each other for free xp with no resistance are missing out on all the fun

Oh I did. Always have C4 on me.

In a perfect world, each of these little bases would feature their own little battles. The defenders would enjoy not allowing you to encircle the big base instead of waiting till you cap and leave and then doing a counter-ghost-cap themselves.

I've already ghost capped Amerish a couple times, with only one or two great shootouts along the way- even when moving my team directly to the enemy WGs to cut them off ASAP. Nobody ever comes to stop us until we're at the WG, and even then it's just a few players trying to ghost re-cap that run into us waiting a few minutes to be sure we won't lose the bases quickly.

If we move on, we don't meet them at all, but we get some XP for the next cap anyway making the defense redundant in terms of progressing in certs.

    A shooter with no shootouts...?

Indeed the problem you higlighted here is pretty prevalent at time. And a good metagame needs to be added to improve it. I hope they do it soon

Have you played with any of them??

Everyone seems to hate ghost capping etc. etc..yet is the #1 thing I see when joining random outfit squads.

Random outfit squads != PS 1 vets.

Random outfit squads = Random outfit squads.

Hell, I'm only here since beta and even I run a little outfit.

That depends on which type of PS1 player you are referring to. Most of the playerbase who quit PS1 at the end of 2004, which coincided with, let's say a highly questionable game addition, are already gone. Those who started following this event, and fondly think of PS1 as a 3-way on the SW corner of Cyssor are probably still around and think of PS2 as the greatest game of all time.

Planetside 1 was notable for intense sometimes multi-hour fights over heavily defended bases, you talk nonsense. If you think PS1 vets like anything but fighting you've obviously totally misunderstood what a Planetside 1 veteran is. The big unopposed zergs and ghost-caps are done by the new players to the franchise.

Edit: I also agree with the guy who said the game mechanics are encouraging the total lack of proper combat. There's simply no reason to fight the enemy, just go ghost-cap something else, the bases are un-defendable and you don;t get anything for defending anyway.

It's actually quite a serious oversight on SOE's part, dunno how they didn't notice this.

Ghost capping is a good way for smaller groups to contribute. Its either that or be a cert farm for a larger outfit, which isnt fun for anybody.
  12. Protential

Exactly, they either 1. Already left. or 2. Think the game is perfect as it is, where they can ghost cap for a living because no one else is playing.
  13. Ssential

    That's simply not true.
This is what PS1 vets want: Defendable bases, namely huge stand-offs. (Because it was like this in PS1!!)

Not this: Undefendable bases, instant win ghost cap zerg tactics currently in PS2. I have yet to come across a PS1 vet that wants this (as it wasn't like this in PS1!!)

Maybe if the devs started caring about the game or even just pretend a little , now its like they are on vacation since like december 10th and are avoiding it like the plague.

I am here reading the forums because I know on the three est servers I have characters on I will find either the zerg bases no defense or the Bio Lab shootout if I am lucky. Picks up later in the day, but still not so great last three evenings. I am hoping it IS just people taking a break from the double xp.

They need to add more to do in game. It's so bare bones, only things to do are defend and cap shields. That is all. Apart from the killing along the way, needs more, needs more depth, the bases need to be fixed and made into forts.
