Can someone help me out here

I'm a bit more than upset about the color changes to the Vanguard. The gray-scale armor imo actually looks pretty great. My issue is the faction colors on the tank were turned into ugly blue stripes that break 75% of the camos.






This isn't the first time that camouflage on a Empire Specific unit has been wrecked by bad faction colors, but I've been staying out of it naively believing that it would just be yellow used on the Vanguard if it were to be changed. Clearly did not happen.








Can you please help me find out more dev-related posts & tweets on this? As much as I would like to find them all by myself, TRay alone has 22K tweets. That's a lot to go through and I was hoping some of you might know exactly where to find some of them.

I'd post my actual thoughts on this, but it'd just get deleted anyways. Let's just say, that I have some very strong objections to some of the visual styling decisions in this game.

So what I will say, is that I disagree with the art direction this game takes. The original color schemes looked much better in my opinion. I'd be willing to drop an FPS or two to get those back. The color stripes look like they are bright vinyl stripes on the side of the tank. Whereas the Prowler looks like someone went to town with red spray paint all over it. I do like the greyer texture they use though.

Well, the gray armor is fine, and it makes a whole lot more sense to reference 1 texture sheet instead of loading 3 in. You can always paint your tank with camo if you don't like it.

But they broke that.

It was actually seeing that camo pattern in VR that first convinced me that the Van needed a splash of blue. I probably spent upwards of a minute staring at it trying to figure out how they had managed to completely remove the faction ID stripes.

But I will agree with you here:

They should have made the shoulders blue as well.

So am I the only one who can't figure out why the three previous textures, which were the exact same size as the current ones and using the same number of colors in the palette, couldn't fit on a single texture sheet while the new ones can?

Please explain.

I agree with you Klypto. The people that have decent rigs shouldn't have to suffer because some people have potatoes. You can easily tell which looks better. There should be a graphics setting for this ugly crap POS. I bought camos for a reason.

Why though? Are you unable to tell that is a vanguard?

Well, it's not even that. I don't understand the correlation between adding more faction color stripes on everything and increased performance.


Compressing them into one texture sheet is fine, but why all the extra colors?

I have a mediocre computer (average between 25-35 fps on low) and honestly this uglification isn't helping me get back any frames.

TRay ticks me off, he shoots down way too many good ideas because he has supreme rule over the art direction. I wish they would have another head art guy instead of this yahoo....

I feel your pain as a primarily Infiltrator player. They ruined our camo's awhile ago.

Man, if they're implementing these changes now in order to support future features, it makes no sense to make these changes now instead of later.

It'd be like if I planned to build an extension on my house a year from now, so tomorrow I'm going to take down the roof and knock out a wall.

Don't forge T-Ray's grand masterpiece of artist creativity which was the TR Infiltrator Gold Trim Armor. Don't worry though TR got the Commissar Hat so it makes up for it.

dunno why they didn't just turn the yellow stripe blue, rather than adding all these grey bits everywhere in no seeming logical fashion.

Oh i agree, the blue shouldn't be there. I meant if they had to add this rubbish just ruin one part of the vehicle rather than all of it.
Also the tip of HEAT cannon cannon isn't covered, why?

So run by me why they need to have faction colours on a Vanguard. Why blue? Can people not tell the difference between a Vanguard and a Prowler?

My head hurts trying to work out why this change was even needed.

If it's for vehicle hacking, that is awesome. If it is for being able to in the future mix more than 1 camo at a time to create some interesting designs that is awesome. If it's for performance, why not just have 1 texture sheet as already mentioned?

If it because the art team have nothing better to do than ruin the aesthetic of the game then for christ sake Higby give them something better to do......... New models for all the copy paste weapons would be a good place to start all the VS LMG's look the same

Well this was always the trend. Game could look awesome and have great art direction, if it wasn't run by that guy.

I get that with my laptop of about 1.5 years old...
