Call me when you patch in a sense of progression

how can you say ps2 isnt like ps1? it's exactly the same with more draw distance! almost no reason to take any base except to get to the next, and cut off the other 2 factions...same weapon platforms, armors, vehicle types, etc. BF came out a year before planetside 1, of course game mechanics are going to be borrowed from a GOTY.

ps2 for the quality of game you expect out of the SoE franchise, is still a pay to play game. ps2 doesnt cater to the console crowd, paying USD for for unlocks is the incentive to give SoE money to have what everyone else has presently. SoE started with pay monthly games, ps2 is still pay monthly if you want to keep up with everyone else, essentially. get over the fact that this is not really a free game if you want to play on par with everyone else. free 2 play people are demoing the game until they feel like spending some money to play it the way it was designed... to have everything unlocked, and money in sony's pocket.

im glad it isnt actually 13.99/mo like ps1, for every single person logging in, because then the population would wane like in ps1 and all you whiners would feel entitled to YOUR perfect planetside. Sorta wish there was a cap on free accounts like planetside 1's free to play system as an incentive to pay for the game to get more out of it, than planetside 2's focus being free and paying for a better experience. que sera sera

ps. i was just thinking how much money ive given SoE over the years for everquest1 from kunark, everquest 2, and planetside 1. SoE has given me over a year of actual playtime, for 1400$ of monthly fees. 9000 hours is 15 cents per hour of SOE awesome gaming. $60 per game with an expiry puts it at many times more expensive for a non Sony game.

if you dont vote, you dont get to complain. if you cant vote...then go for it. buy your vote nubs

I like this guy. Yeah if they weren't there in the late 90's early 2000's they missed the boat. This bubblegum/hollywoodifcation crap of games is getting entirely too old and redundant.

Agreed. 1942-2142 were all done when DiCe was still an independent dev. You can see the influence from both DiCe and EA in each game as an individual. Also, almost no one from the 1942 dev team is left.

I really liked the BR appearance system from PS1. Gave a real sense of progression seeing your character getting new pieces of armor as you leveled up. I think BR should grant access to more customization options. They don''t have to be free, even if they costed station cash it would still be cool to gain access to items that distinguish you based on your BR.

Um, thats what you put at the end of your post. "problems."

Im not sure what the rest of your post was about.

Qouth us old and grumby BF1942 players: "TIGER OP."

About your silly comparison drawing between Planetside2 and Battlefield 3. Stop feigning ignorance.

The only thing relative to PS1 in PS2 are the factions, their weapons, and their vehicles.

    Nothing else is.

Show me were in PS1 you can drop a ulimited supply of ammo at your feet.

Show me were in PS1 you have a 'spawn outhouse' that is 100% cut off from EVERYTHING at the base you are desperatly trying to defend. (though the dev's were nice enough to add in a teleporter in the tech-plant... but again, that 1 single exit teleport is laughably easily camped.. so again.. 100% cut off.) excluding towers.

Show me were in PS1 your spawn room (outhose) is 100% campable by vehicles. (again, excluding towers)

Show me were in PS2 were you have an 'inventory' in which you have to manage how much ammo you carry vs med-kits/grenades/other things.

Show me were in PS1 where you can instantly swap from the main gun on a tank (which conincidently you are also driving while operating the main gun. ) and hop into the 'secondary' gunner seat, without first having to stop and get OUT of the vehicle.

Show me were in PS1 you can wear a heavy armor and carry a rocket launcher + a HA weapon. and still drive every vehicle in the game.

In PS1 you had a vary real reason to 'santuary lock' the enimy faction. You got to use their toys (weapons, tanks, other vehicles) while you continued to hold them to their own santuary.

PS1 didnt realy have anything in common with Battlefield. Battlefield didnt have a 'fixed' COF system that PS1 had, when you aimed down the sights in BF, you were aiming down the sights. In PS1, all 'aiming' did, was tighten up your COF slightly (except for sniper rifles, and even then, still.. it only tightend the COF indicator). Even the capture mechanics of PS1 were different than battlefield.

In PS1 you actually could kick the enemies out of a continent. You and your team relished in the sight of a beaten enemy fleeing back to their Sanctuary.

In PS2 you get a store coupon when the other factions are off prime time.

In PS1 you actually could systematically conquer an entire continent whilst fighting head on against defenders actually DEFENDING something.

In PS2 you can actually play Ring Around the Rosebush with enemy Zergs. You both get to Win! Every boy gets to play on the girl's team and every girl gets to play on the boy's team. No one shall ever face unhappy thoughts in the land of Glowy Butterflies, aka Auraxis.

It gave you joy to see a Galaxy Map glowing purple. It gave you meaningful Benefits to see parts of the Galaxy Map glowing purple.

In PS1 we wanted to Win, and they didn't want to Lose.

In PlanetSide 2 there is nothing to Win, and so there are no Winners.
In PlanetSide 2 there is nothing to Lose, and so there are no Losers.

This is one of my big tiffs. And i never played PS1. I cant stand that I cannot even reach the mainbase im defending without having to navigate a million different deathtraps to get there, sans having a teleporter at every outer camp. Especially when the smaller minor bases have almost no applicable spawns. That a lone annoys the hell out of me the most.
  11. Azurewind

All of the gun models looking virtually identical certainly does players no favors in feeling a sense of progression. Especially if you worked your way up to 500-700 certs to unlock one.

These are actually three different guns. Good luck figuring out which one is which.
  12. Arsinek

Youre delusional if you dont think PS2 is just like BF3.
  13. SilentTR

planetside 1 was a game for its time. for 9 years ago, it's the same. ps 2 is the present day version. really, do you get a totally different thrill when playing planetside 2 than when playing planetside 1 back then, when everything was new? i bet the answer is no, because that's my vet ps 1 opinion. but that's all it is. same shirt different pile/ same.
  14. AtomicGerman

Now that you've put it in better terms. I understand. But take hope that this game is yet fresh out of the stockade. However. I actually do feel a loss when my team cant get its collective **** together and we lose the map.
  15. Arsinek

Where did the OP say anything about COD or BF?

And ya, your hippy response "We should play for the fun" or entertainment or whatever philosophical BS youre trying to pedal and to that Ill repost what Ive already written..... "Are you so dense you cant figure out not everyone thinks a mindless shooter with the complexity of tic-tack-toe is fun".
  16. Rhapsody

in Planetside 1, the 'spawn rooms', literaly, were rooms INSIDE the main base. Vehicles had absolutly no way to get to them.. It was infantry or nothing.

Granted, a downside to PS1 is that 'hallways' ran everywere.. there were no open spaces to realy speek of within bases.

they 'tried' to rectify this in PS2.. and for the most part they did a damn good job of it.

Except for the "Spawn-Outhouses".. Whoever thought up that idea, and managed to get it put into the game needs to be taken outside, beat nearly to death with a shuvel, then burried upside down in a fire-ant mound. And once they recover, forced to defend a Base in PS1 from 20 tanks, 15 aircraft, and 2 infantry. when all he has to spawn from is the tower outside the walls.
  17. Cimota

Sorry Rhapsody, your points are valid, but when you get a red line on a word you type it means you've spelled it wrong.Your spelling is atrocious.
  18. Rockit

Well that's a real shame. I wish you could have. That game had an immersion factor PS2 cannot even approach. You genuinely hated any opposing empire. You had rivalries with outfits that fueled your fire. You fought valiantly side by side as one to make sure your empire held strong. In PS2 well you just drop back to gain XP later or empire hop to another server to further your XP on whatever char. Base design is bad in PS2 as you mentioned. Way to whack a mole and stand around for point to flip. PS1... 1 point to flip inside a well constructed and thought out base and you fought like hell to get it or defend it. Maybe someday that spirit will come back who knows.

Apologies. but having played nearly every Battlefield title from 1942 on down to the current philistine version of BF3, the exclusion of the half ***** Bf1943 in mind. I can tell you that Battlefield 3 is an animal all its own, having more in common with teh Bad Company spinoffs than it ever had with its namesake series. That said, when i play Planet side 2, the only things I find similar to BF3 are listable:

    1.) Graphics.
    2.) Open world gameplay.

After that, its comparison is more in line with Bf3's much more respectable predecessor: Battlefield 2.

Thus the deal being that side-grade weapons offers more variety than BF3's "The next weapon is ALWAYS BETTER than the last."

Add to that, BF3 has stupendously oversimplified linear progression and weapons the practical do all the work for you. Not to mention this fetish for realism in the games market has so erroneously infected the third installment of my beloved franchise with not visceral realism, but CRIPPLING realism. At least in planet side 2 when I take a hit from another gun my face doesn't become horrendously over speckled with blood. Or as I said before my tank doesn't become blind and ultra slow after taking half its damage threshold.

It isnt delusional to belive that this game isnt like BF3 because it simply isnt. What youre saying has good reason to assume its like Bf3, i agree. But when you lay out side by side the facts. This game has more to do with earlier Bf titles than anything.

*shrugs* i type fast and the forums dont have an 'auto-correct'. *shrugs* its readable, thats all i care about. Its not like im typing a 700 word essay for a mid-term.
