Buff the most useless item in PS2 history. Decoy Grenade.

    Decoy grenades have been the most useless item in PS2 history, it takes the #1 spot for most useless item in thr games history, thats right, its is even worse then the C85 Trollified [pre-buff], current ZOE, current PPA, pre-buff Burst fire weapons, whatever you can name.

    My proposal is the following.
    1). Being able to thrown while in cloak, I think we can let this slide since it has no direct combat effect.
    2). Louder more distinct gunfire, the point of the grenade is to create a distraction.
    3). Allow it to be able to stick to enemies and changing their IFF, make their teammates think their enemies.
    4). Change IFF identifier [Dorritos] to current biggest enemy pop in the hex, allow you to mask friendly as enemies.
    5). Add more distinct weapon sounds or patterns. Its quite easy to differentiate between decoy and player right now.
    6). Increase base carry amount and adjust cert cost, 50c for 1, 100c for 2, 200c for 3.
    7). Decoy grenades show up as population and conflict blips in a hex, say 2 for every grenade and it last 5 minutes. Gotta make those redeployside people look like dummies redeploy in 48+ to a 12 infiltrator squad.
    8). Allow grenades to be "turned on or off" all at the same time.

    Super short duration, entirely unconvincing.

    It should be sticky and project a hologram of the user. :eek:

    How about make them into zero-nanite sticky grenades which do no damage but create the same visual explosion? Just to screw with people in big fights.

    I rather see them make a hologram of pretend kneel or stand shooting of any random class just to take a few random shots and make a cleaver girl moment for a good sniper shot on the guy firing at a hologram.

    IMO they should scrap the thing entirely and give the infiltrator smoke nades.

    Here is my quick idea.

    Make decoys deploy like C4, but you can throw them like stickies.
    It stays up for 5 minutes.
    Clicking "detonate" turns it on/off.
    Turning of on will cause it to display a false radar blip at that location.
    A decoy deployed near a capture point will flip the point then destroy itself, when turned on.
    You can deploy up for 3 at a time.And carry 6. They cost 12 nanites per decoy.

    Could always go Halo on it and make it create a hologram that runs straight forward shooting.

    Decoy grenades should give false hit markers on the enemy HUDs, almost like the decoy grenade pulsed a large, zero-damage explosion. "You're being shot" HUD markers might help this grenade actually distract people. Maybe even have the no-damage explosion still halt shield recharge. It'd be something, at least.

    Decoy grenades should offer the sound of an infi cloaking and de-cloaking with varied, random intensities.

    Now, THAT would be really useful.

    I think decoy grenades should explode in a harmless puff of smoke that spells, "Ha ha, fooled you!".

    That doesn't make any sense.

    The whole purpose of the decoy grenade is to make the enemy think you are somewhere else. If they see a hologram, they'll know it's an infiltrator near by and then they'll know to look specifically for an infiltrator. If they just hear gun shots like they do now, they don't know what class is there or how many.

    The decoy grenade should do random call-outs of passing-by enemy classes, as if they were being spotted. The makes everyone paranoid as heck.

    CopyPasta follows :

    Random voice macros.
    Cloak sounds with varied, random intensities.
    False indication of taking fire on enemy HUDs.
    Fake explosions.
    Sticky.
    Louder.
    More distinct weapon sounds or patterns.
    Allow us to carry more.


    No literally, ALL of the above and I MIGHT consider carrying them. In fact that's only if they ALSO provide a false signature as if someone fired their weapon at that location(Fake MiniMap infantry blip). I am pretty sure that last bit is on the description but DOES NOT actually ever happen. I've tried them with friends.

    Edit : Explosion sounds, I could let go. The rest really are a must have, including the map blip I mentioned last. Until then they're utterly useless(Especially considering you give up Frags or EMP).

    Just make it produce a hologram like those in VR training, can you just imagine the panic of randomly having an smg infiltrator pop up right in your face only to have the real one behind you?

    I would add spamming the map with points instead of a single one.
    Or just remove it, give the infiltrator smoke and the LA a explode-on-impact grenade instead.

    I would say yes but just remove it as a grenade. Have it be a sensor jammer deployable like the motion sensor, which would override the motion sensor and mess with it's reporting.

    I like most of the ideas the OP presented. The holographic ones I don't think would work long-term, because more observant players will eventually recognize a hologram when they see one, whereas gunshots and a minimap signature are much more ambiguous, and therefore convincing/misleading.

    P.S. Has much testing been done on the current decoy grenade mechanics? If not, I'd be quite interested in doing some. I haven't heard anything about them for a while and have quite a few questions.

    Just let infiltrator get 1.5x move speed while cloaked and let them shoot while cloaked, pretty much make it a perma cloak. Give heavy assault shield a super jump while using shield, let it absorb 2000 damage. Give LA jetpacks ESF like manueverability. Give medics a massive AOE reviving function, like 10x rezz grenades, which also turns the newly revived soldiers into temporary berserkers. And help engies give me more ammo...

    We believe they are still bugged right? They don't produce this "false signature" on radar.
