Ive tryed to kill at close quarters with Underboss,Blackhand,Spiker,Lasher,T7 MCG and other weapons that i have unlocked. Nothing is effective. People have INCREDIBLE reaction time. So im thinking to try the best way to deal with close quarters encounters: a shotgun. People said that shotguns are for noobs and other things that said. Well, because is too hate for shotguns i will buy one. Maybe then, the people stop to troll at me. So tell me,which shotgun is the best for 1 shot kill in close quarters???? NOT TR please,im starting to hate TR again. Im thinking on the Phobos or similars in NC. Or maybe the Jackhammer, this last one seems OP. But i need ur opinion. Which one is the best????
  2. customer548

Maybe is there just any L2P issue involved ?
  3. Ximaster

OH!! A troll answer, seems that im right. Im going to use shotgun for trolls like u must shut up. Thanks for this advice :D

Edit: LOL and now i see that u are that guy that think that i dont know how to play a stalker infiltrator. Man,before u said ANYTHING i knew how to play a stalker infiltrator, specially with Blackhand. So,shut up and go back to ur cavern. Ah,and watch out now,a shotgun guy its around u... *Taking shotgun for counter shotgun that guy* Evident...

To a certain extent, a shotgun is a shotgun. They all dominate other weapons at very close range, they all suck past maybe about 15m. The Jackhammer is the best shotgun, but of course it's only available to HA. Its narrow spread means you have to actually aim at the enemy, as opposed to just flailing in their general direction. If you want that kind of shotgun, the Piston is for you.

I guess you're the only only trolling around. Be sure that i do not.

Shotguns will not change anything to your problem. And you'll not become a problem for me in game because of your brand new big shotgun in your tiny hands. Keep calm, please.

Monthes ago, you were the 1rst to talk to me on the /yell chan. I gave you tips about your gameplay and you computer in a cool way. Then you suddenly became angry after i killed you 2 days later.
Dude, your issue is not your weapon. It's your gameplay and your fps.

Piston cant 1 shoot kill enemyes. I want a shotgun that kills in 1 shoot, ive said the Jackhammer cause i think that its the best shotgun in terms of magazine capability (12 rounds with the extended magazine) Who said magazine, said number of cartridges in shotgun.

The Jackhammer doesn't one-shot anything, although the burst mode sort of feels like a one-shot. Based on the complaints in your original post, I think you'll be happier with the auto-shotgun. Pump-actions (the OHK guns) are harder to use, since a miss or partial hit usually gets you killed, and they're much worse outside their optimal range than the other shotguns are when outside theirs.

Sounds like you have a problem with scoring headshots/determining ideal engagement range and are running up against hit detection issues.

A shotgun is not a noob weapon, otherwise all the noobs would be using it all the time. A shotgun is a tactical weapon, it takes knowledge and consideration to get in close enough where the shotgun becomes better than other weapons. Carbines for instance can do almost the same stuff as a shotgun at close ranges, you can kill someone before the first hitmarker appears essentially doing the "magic" OHK. That's why not hitting the full shot with shotguns is a dangerous affair, a Carbine/AR user can still kill you in CQC if you mess up for one second. A shotgun requires more skill in accuracy to use. Yes, you have an easier time hitting them, but to actually benefit from the shotgun's power you need to hit almost everything of your shot or your TTK's quickly rise far above that of your enemy.

Shotguns have just about three advantages, two of which aren't that big to begin with:
    - Best CQC damage. Shotguns are the strongest CQC weapons out there, if you can get close enough and don't have your shots go wide of the target.
    - Can OHK. All shotguns can OHK, although only the Pump-Action can OHK with bodyshots. You need several pellets to hit the head to score a OHK with other shotguns, which is part skill and part being lucky enough that enough pellets hit the head.
    - The biggest advantage, the one you should actually take a shotgun for, is it's damage per magazine. It sports a tremendous amount of damage per magazine and if used properly can kill off 3-4 people quickly without ever having to reload. Ofcourse, to get such a score you need to surprise them as a single enemy can kill you quickly as well.

    As for shotgun usage:
Auto-shotty is the king of 1v1, it's a good starting shotgun to learn some of the advantages and disadvantages of the range and effectiveness of shotguns but you shoot ammo like eating skittles, so you'll run out fast and often be reloading when the next enemy attacks you, which is why it's a 1v1 weapon.

Semi-Auto's are the best shotguns out there for me. With extended magazine they seem to be able to last entire battles, their semi-auto firemode means you make your shots count rather than holding down the trigger for spray&pray, allowing you to take down a host of enemies in quick succession without reloading.

Pump-Actions are great for 1v1 but can also be used against groups, but are much more punishing when you don't get the kill quickly. They are great fun and require the most skill to use. Try taking down MAX's with them, aggressive play and shooting them in the head means they often kill you slower (I guess it surprises them) and if they are a little bit damage a full extended magazine to the head will kill them.
But the best tactic when using pump-actions is to go kill only one or two guys, then use it's reload mechanic to quickly get back to full ammo and combat readiness.

In other subforum, one guy recommend me the Pandora. Its a fully automatic shotgun. There is any equivalents in NC???? Cause didnt noticed the existence of those shotguns after now o_O
  11. Eternaloptimist

I don't use a shotty myself after trying them out for a short time. But I hear that the pump action shotguns will kill with one shot at close range. The downside is probably slower rate of fire than other shotguns so you probably only get one shot. Or go for the auto shotguns if you are not confident of hitting every time.
  12. Ximaster

Omg sorry _itg didnt know that Piston is an automatic shotgun. Seems that for a new player like me its the best shotgun i can equip. As i said didnt noticed this automatic shotguns after now xD Well, doubt resolved. I will build the Piston.

Honestly shotguns aren't nearly as easy as people make them out to be, they can be actually pretty hard weapons (especially the OHK ones). For example I generaly suck at shotguns, prefer SMGs. Still, based on my experience:

Full-autos are the most reliable although they have a bad spread. But if you can get close enough you just need to aim in the general direction and hold down the button. dmg/mag can be a problem when engaging multiple targets.

Pump-actions are very hard to learn and their low RoF makes them useless against more than 1 enemy at a time (or HA with shield on) because most of the time you will be dead by the time you could fire again.

Semi-autos are somewhere in the middle, have longer effective range than full-autos and much faster RoF than pump-actions. But what really sets them apart from the other types is their dmg/mag, allowing you to easily kill multiple opponents without reloading. Hands down best for engaging more than 1-2 enemies.

Jackhammer is a semi-auto with a "pump-action" fire mode, and a damn good one at that. It has the lowest pellet spread of all the shotguns which make it have the longest effective range. It is also the only "pump-action" capable of OHKing a HA with shield on.The ability to switch between the 2 fire modes make it a very versatile weapon. It's biggest flaw is probably the long (for a shotgun) reload time and the fact that you have to lead your target for a split second when using the "pump-action" mode (because of the 3x burst). If you don't mind running a shotgun on a HA I highly recommend this weapon.

Shotguns across all factions are copy-pastes, with the exception of VS shotguns having no bullet drop and a slightly slower velocity, and the NC having the Jackhammer.
  15. FieldMarshall

All shotguns are identical for all 3 factions except the Jackhammer. And the Jackhammer is basically a Baron.

Semi Auto's (default) works really well. Its not really worth spending certs getting a different shotgun, unless you want it to fill a niche.
The PA shotguns are basically high risk high reward weapons that relies heavily on aim.
Auto shotguns kills anything you come across, but if you encounter several enemies you die because of the long reload and how quickly it goes through a mag.
You will also quickly run out of spare ammo unless you play Engineer.
Baron has a bit more range than the other shotguns.

I would recommend a SMG or CQB Carbine instead though.
Sure, a shotgun is nice, but if you encounter enemies beyond 10m you are at a disadvantage and will most likely die.

  16. Lemposs

Shotguns are niche and requires a completely different playstyle from your usual doings, so I wouldn't recommend it in anyway, when they can just barely beat other weapons in close quarters.

But if you absolutely must have one that can OHK, pump action is the option. So that includes NC Bruiser and Claw, TR Uppercut and Blackjack, VS Phobos and Deimos.

    Good luck, you'll need it.
  17. Metal Insomniac

If you can aim, use the Bruiser. It will one shot nearly any enemy, as long as all the pellets land. If you want something more forgiving, use the Jackhammer with an Adrenaline Shield and Nanoweave.
  18. Deffington

There is that NC shotgun pistol! Oh wait, it's useless as the other faction specific secondaries.
  19. Shatteredstar

Heavy pump is fun to run around with at times but you're always going to be very aim dependent and approach dependent.

Learn the best approaches and you'll benefit with all weapons really shotguns will just carry more at the very close engagements but you'll notice at even short ranges you're almost useless
  20. cobaltlightning

Let's go back to the opening post for a second, OP. It's not about what weapons you have unlocked, it's how you use them, For example with the list you have posted:

The Underboss deal high damage per shot for a pistol with only six shots per magazine and a relatively slow fire rate, but like a pistol it's meant to be used as a second resort after you empty your primary magazine or missed the CQC Knife swing with your primary out.

The Blackhand is a pocket Battle Rifle. Using it in CQC is just begging to be killed.

For the Spiker, see the Terran's Repeater Pistol: Burst Fire, so more pewpewpewpewpewpewpewpew

The Lasher is a different beast altogether, and should be treated differently. It's best to keep it indoors at medium range and just lay down the suppressing fire.

The MCG starts in roughly the same boat as the Lasher, but can be upgraded for CQC With the Balistic Refire Trigger attatchment. This does, however, emphasize it's low ammo pool and extremely long reload times, however.

As for shotguns, as everyone else has said, they are as rewarding as they are punishing to their users. I haven't used a shotgun for a while, but that's because I find myself able to rely on hipfiring my full automatic weapons while I'm in groping distance and, if not come out on top, at least do enough that a buddy will finish them off.
