Best ESF Dogfighters

I would also like to nominate rocketchicken for one of the best pilots on the server. If the thread was called "Best ESF Dogfighters who are also not Exploiters or Griefers" then he'd be disqualified, but this is not the case.

After our first true 1v1 today (no outside interference or exploiting) that started with him having the advantage and ended in a draw, I can say that I have personally seen his abilities, which are impressive. Do not mistake the fact that our duel ended in a draw to mean our skills are equal, as he is far better than me. Maybe with enough practice I will not have to resort to a final desperate maneuver to prevent him from winning.

Oh, on a side note, there is a little quirk about the game that some may not be aware of. If you intend to fly over someone, make sure you give them a wide berth. If it looks like you will clearly, narrowly fly over them on the client side, the server may disagree and cause the two planes to collide. I've learned this from experience on both the giving and receiving end of the deal.

Dogfighting Tournament.

An organized 1v1 event where each player starts head to head at an altitude of 500m about 300m apart. To include everyone that wants to participate, preferably in a secluded spot on Esamir or Amerish. I would suggest no A2A missiles, but I really don't think there should be rules; nor would I care since flares are a decent counter in a 1v1.

Thoughts?

I don't see Rocketchicken's tourny post, but I feel I'll comment on it here since you brought it up.

1v1 fights are all fine and dandy, but the overall intensity just isn't there for me in this game. Finding someone good while just cruising around or taking bullets from behind and turning and seeing a well known name is much more intense and satisfying than set duels.

With that said, I would gladly join in a tourny for ***** and giggles if they rolled back the velocity patch. Right now I feel the Reaver is just not going to win 90% of the time against a pilot of equal skill or even a little bit lesser of skill.

Also having a 1v1 tourny would be impossible between the great pilots because of weapons lock, most of them are TR. There would literally only be maybe 2-3 people from both VS and NC, worth even wasting time on in a 1v1.

Instead of a tournament, how about turning this into a "top gun" sorta club, where if you want to be considered one of the best, you have to play against the best. In other words, a candidate to be added to the list must duel someone who is already on the list. The results of the duel would determine whether or not the candidate makes the cut.

If all ESF's were equal this would be fine. This isn't a club, this isn't for bragging rights. This list was compiled and created for my personal use and gain, along with some of the others on the list.

Duels are for practice or Ego seeking players. Like the person I ran into last night, that killed me while hovering as I was sending him messages about the duel we were going to have, think he just wanted to kill me real fast look good and say "Look I killed PureSalad, he isn't even that good" kind of deal.

I don't believe 1v1 ability in duels determines who the great pilots are. I look for the people that survive being shot at first, and people that out play almost everyone around them. Which I believe the list right now is very accurate.

I'd also like to give a nomination to Xnak of the TR, over the last few weeks he has been quite the issue whenever I run into him, but as I said before I believe the Reaver will lose most of the time to a Equal player.

I really like the idea of PlanetSide 2 Olympics, even though I probably wouldn't participate myself. Player-driven content is a huge part of MMOs and PlanetSide 2 could benefit from it.

ESF 1v1
I think the differences in the ESFs would make this more interesting. Right now it is speculation who would have the edge. Let's say that after several Olympic games it becomes fairly well known that Reavers do in fact have a disadvantage. If a Reaver pilot won the games, that would be awesome. It's always great to see the underdog win.

If you don't like 1v1, but do like competition, use your imagination and come up with an event! Like this one:

Two teams, each team consisting of 3 of the best ESF pilots of the participating factions, and each pilot having a different role. There would be three rounds, and pilots would alternate roles between rounds. There would be an established fighting area, and an "out of bounds" area. The different roles would be ESF fighter, ESF patroller, and AA unit.

ESF fighter: This would be the meat of the event. Basically 1v1 with a few things to watch for, like staying in-bounds.

ESF patroller: If one of the fighters goes out of bounds, the patroller may now engage and the fight becomes 2v1 until the two ESF fighters return to the established in-bounds area.

AA unit: A MAX unit equipped with a single burster. They're job is to run around the in-bounds area and shoot at the enemy fighter.

This event would be a great test of a pilot's skill, requiring them to fight, avoid ground fire, and be aware of where they are.

These are just ideas... I come up with a lot of them. Some good, most not so good. Here's another idea for an event: Liberator escort.

We could also eliminate the differences of the ESFs by alternating who gets to play which faction by creating dummy characters and play with 100% un-upgraded characters.

I like player made content and I've seen other sandbox games succeed in doing such events, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to do it on this game.

Although someone with a open mind, and determination could prolly pull this off. Unfortunatly that's not me, I play at a later time that most people and to organize such a event would almost need to be during prime time with a large group of people actually participating.

But some of your mini games, within the game would be fun. I would most likely try to take part in them, but I'm no event organizer.

this sounds awesome, and i dont know if you guys read but they are thinking of making ps2 an e-sport, this would be one way to practice our skills, and not only that but maybe even help them with information on how things should be set up?

If would need a bunch of fixes and changes to be capable of being a e-sport. Such as Tank and ESF balancing, along with many many other things. I'm not even sure how you could make a esport out of a MASS player game. Usually esport games are 1 person vs another, or a small team of 5 against another team of 5. I'm not sure how they are going to manage 1000vs1000vs1000 in a serious e-sport enviroment.

Anyways you can jack my thread all you want, I'm like 3rd on views for Jaeger lol. You guys are keeping it alive, which helps me and still keeps people interested in telling me names or contributing.

Google it bud plenty of info on it and it is explained on a lot of the questions you just asked, they'd just need a smaller map with a tourney join system like wow or gw2 or any other game that is doing the e-sport thing, would take some work yeah but not as much as you are thinking, the balancing part yes... but they can have restrictions on certain maps like they do in most e-sports

Please don't use the word "bud" when talking to me. It's like a pet peeve of mine. But I do get what your saying. I just think it won't live up to a E-sport level of game. Time will tell.

Oh sidenote, I'm truely impressed with all the interest and feedback I've got from everyone that has read or posted on this thread.
