seems the massive is draining out ... except during alerts when it concentrates again ...

Can the lettucers please, please, please for the love of all that is holy, come up a different thing to whine and cry about other than "ghost cappers" seriously, it barely happened anyways, and in all honesty back capping made the game more fun, and that is back when there was over a million people playing the game, ever since the lettuce linear cry baby time has taken an even stronger foot hold more people have been leaving, and this is because the masses obviously preferred the more non linear game play, this whole thing with SOE constantly changing everything and now moving to make PS2, PS1 re-skinned is ridiculous, obviously is didn't work in PS1 for the majority of players, and since players are leaving the game, and the constant threads being created about how the masses do not like this change in direction, then obviously what didn't work in PS1 isn't going to suddenly work in PS2, obviously. Not every continent should be a lattice, the constant changes and hacking is driving players away, there isn't going to be some "magical" "mechanic" that suddenly makes tons of players come back to the game, or stay in the game so in my honest opinion if it obviously isn't working for at least 50% of the population of the game, then you prolly shouldn't do it, or you should try to find a compromise, or you will lose 50% of your players, and in a few months the lattice will be burning people out because it isn't the greatest idea ever, it actually kinda blows, then you will lose more players, then the servers will be barren, then this will cause other players to leave, then you will have more server merges, then more burn out, rinse and repeat.......

I didn't think a single poast could contain that level of hyperbole.

He said, "I can't circumvent the Zerg with my small outfit anymore"
She said, "You mean you can't ghostcap anymore"
He said, "Flanking != Ghost capping"
She said, "You can still flank, L2Strategy"
He said, "You can only flank once one Zerg has pushed the other to a point where a Lane branches"
She said, "If you don't want big fights, go play COD or something"

    /thread
There, I've saved you all a few minutes in typing out posts, as this is how all of these pointless threads end up.

    I disagree...

only up to half the potential bases for contention are ever triggering hotspots at any 1 point in time.

The difference is that now... if you go and start trying to cap on a empty lane... you WILL get resistance, and you can't just hop over a hex to an adjacent territory to avoid fighting them, because there is no lateral adjacency anymore.

This actually makes smaller fights more prevalent and easier to find, compared to earlier when whoever had the smaller force invariably just left and went somewhere else with nobody at it.

It is my strong personal belief that anyone who is complaining simply likes to sit and cap empty bases.

I'm sorry, that didn't really make sense to me. I'll take a stab at some examples, and you can tell me if I'm close:

Great battle: Lots of squads hitting different targets, with no more than perhaps 20 versus 20 in any given 100 square meter area. Combined arms tactics with occasional vehicle and aircraft intervention but never really dominating but merely punctuating the battle and then either being destroyed or moving off somewhere else. Battle ebs and flows a few times and generally takes about 20 minutes to conclude. A battle that makes you perhaps yell out "Good fight!" to congratulate your enemy.

OK battle: Enemy initially defends the facility but resistance crumbles after 5 minutes. Eventually devolves into several concerted pushes out of the spawn room by coordinated enemies or perhaps an enemy counter-attack that forces you to switch sunderer positions but nothing more. After 15 minutes you have the base, but there was at least 5 minutes of it where you were sitting on your can, playing peekaboo with shield monkeys in the spawn.

reading these anti-lattice threads I've had a revelation

Other shooters are about shooting other people, here the point is to avoid them as well as you can with tactics. xD

You can still do this you thick ****, there is more than one battle front.

Somewhere along that scenario, I hope the kid comes out, slaps them both with a broom handle, and says "Don't feel constricted by lines on the map. Gal drop into a base behind enemy lines that can spawn vehicles, hack the terminal.
    He says: "whaaaa?"
    She says: "yes, but..."
Child says: "Shut it! Hack the terminal, pull vehicles, and then either make a nuisance of yourself, or open a second front or attack the enemy's flanks or rears, or do you need your diaper changed?"
He blinks several times, scratching his head
    She has her mouth agape.
Child says: "Your fault for leaving TLC on to 'babysit' me."

It's true, and all of it has happened before, now it is happening again, not too many seem to be in love with the lattice, the big fights are fun for a bit, but it grows stale, who really wants to fight in the same place for hours on end until one side ultimately has more players and can then advance and take territory, but only until the other side gets more players, then they can retake what was taken, 6 hours today and 3 bases got taken, then they got taken back, this sounds like great fun, I'm sure the majority of players actually have that much time to sit around for hours and hours, and hours, and get no where, and play in the same place, welcome to what failed in PS1, lets implement it in PS2, makes sense, if you don't implement it we will cry for months and months until we get our way!!!!

  11. ExarRazor

I find it absolutely AMAZING how many unthinking, braindead CODmorons are whining about the lattice, considering this is EXACTLY what PS2 was supposed to have in place to begin with.

we're sorry you cant get your killwhore epeen strokefest here. please go back to cod or battlefield and leave planetside to the real planetside players

Awww, did I hit soft spot to make you reply with such hatred and despair? I was pointing out his fallacy you think headed ***-hat
  14. Joram

You people have 0 imagination, 1 coordinated squad can decide a battle with 100 people for each side, you can use 12 ESF and lolpod infantry positions, 6 liberators, 6 MBT, 4 harassers with AA max and AV weapons or 6 harassers with AV weapons, 12 LA and destroy every sundie the enemy has, you can protect your sundies, go behind enemy lines and intercept every vehicle trying to go to the front, you can get a squad defending a choke point with max medics and engies and fight until the other faction coordinates a max crash or something.

You cant go full ****** mode and just run to the points, you need numbers to do that, you cant ghostcap.

That could always be done with the hex system, and was done, like most other suggestions of what small units can do. Joining with other units, doesn't help either, that too could be done before--not all players or small units like the zerg zerg zerg to be effective...there hasn't been anything added to the tactical variety from the lattice system, while many have been taken away.

I agree that the hex system had it's problems and resulted in some rather absurd situations, like a unit cut off but sitting on an enemy warp gate for hours. Problems such as that could have been resolved with a more logical resource system that didn't allow units to draw effectively unlimited resources if they were cut off.

    --
There's probably a great combinations of hex and lattice that could be done-- using lattice to define resources but allowing the maneuver of the hex system. Cap any adjacent territory as before (as like IRL tactics), but tie it to resources for the players on the ground that have to tie it via the lattice for personal and empire resources. Shooting off the cuff, players would have only resources from territories they are connected to and the rest would build up in an unavailable reserve. Such a system wouldn't be so artificially limiting the maneuver game while discouraging ghost capping without a purpose.
  16. Ribero

Does doing that actually work on your server?
  17. Rockstone

This game is an RTS described as a shooter :p

PS2 was never supposed to have a lattice, it was tweeted by the devs that the lattice would never come back, good thing a bunch of linear thinking cry babies whinned, moaned and *****ed until they got their way, it was never supposed to be in the game, otherwise it would have been in beta, seems like a bunch of people need to be led by the hand to the big fights, and the rare and occasional ghost hacker infuriates them so much that they are unable to send some people in a gal from their outfit to deal with it, better to cry on the fourms for months until you get your way and destroy an amazing game only to turn it into a game that sorta failed, but had a massive cult following.

    Good Games, good games.

Don't forget to quote Sun Tzu. I hear a lot of these Tactical Tier One Operator Operator outfits make their members read The Art of War while standing on an empty base.

oh look, one of those very same braindead codmorons.

    you got it backwards son.

planetside 2 destroyed a great game, and the devs have finally realized it.
they are turning the game into what it was supposed ot be in the first place
