It's a step in the right direction. I personally like it - at least as much as I can tell without actually playing.

Exact. The indentation on the first image were extremly useful for infantry as the lower panel block up to your waist (so you could look down if needed) and the upper one could block all of the left/right section for your body.

Since they put a panel that block the entire section that were actually covering your body, you now have to expose at least half of your body vertically. It also block the view and offer no protection if you need to look down, for a sunderer or LA, for example.

In simple, you'll have to expose yourself way more if you want to kill people on the other side of the wall. It also block all possible view making it an even better place for LA and sunderer under you. Those wall will be an even bigger deadtrap.

Why the hell didn't they place the new panel directly in the middle, you know, where there is 0 protection, and leave the section that already offert protection and good view intact.

The attackers in amp stations are normally the ones that control the walls. Even less defence for bases. Like it wasn't bad enough : /
  7. sustainedfire

It seems ok, and plausible that Heavies and Snipers could use those shielded openings to give attackers some resistance. What will make the difference is how the tunnel systems will connect to the walls and elsewhere within the bases.

For me this really only changes a few angles for LOS. I never really saw people getting murdered on those walkways, nor anyone shooting in HE rounds with any effect.
But I'm glad the devs are still making changes, and I hope they continue to, even to the point where buildings may dynamically change a little after continent locks, to keep things fresh.
  9. Caracal

Perhaps, features like these walls will change that. Theres only one way to find out though, try it ;)

I dunno. I really get the feeling that SOE does not want to make facilities too defensible. Why??

First, facilities had NO walls. After months of complaining we get walls with barely any cover. Now they are upgrading to walls with a little cover. What's the SOE thought process here? Whatever it is, I bet it could be used in a comedy sketch.

I think everybody can agree that long fights are the most fun. In PS1 base fights would last hours to DAYS. Why? Because bases were difficult to take! Now that was epic. Taking a base in 15 minutes because you simply have the numbers to do so - not so epic (read: not epic at all, and not much fun either).

Seriously SOE. I'd love to know what goes on in your collective head regarding this matter.

That's the problem, or what's funny, with this "fix". The "upgrade" was place directly on top of where you already had cover. A good cover that also gave a good LOS so you could kill stuff before they got closer.

Result: A bigger cover that remove all LOS and force defender to expose themself even more if they want to kill incoming attackers since the actual gap with no cover is left alone. Brilliant.

Yeh, i'm not too keen on this new pannel seems to me you gotta put yourself in harms way to defend the wall with this new addition.
  13. Nehemia

I wonder what you are seeing, but they "shut down" the walls towards the base, so the gaps are on the other side. This means that the defenders on the walls aren't against the sky, thus harder to spot. In addition it makes the offense up in the walls being forced to take a peek from those gaps. Well see what truly changes (those screens are always well, subject to change) What I'm worried about is that AoE is going to smack directly at those new wall additions, thus dealing damage to the people on the wall without actually hitting anything, even worse, tossing grenades there never has been easier.

Err they added walls to base defences ... awesome .. now attacker cant shoot in 90degree angles ... nor can the defenders .... except in 45degree angles to maximise the HE damage splash on the covering infantry inside.

Good intentions but please look into it abit more still. The areas where we need to shoot from seem still totally empty of cover.

Currently im not sure if this helps or makes it worse.
  15. Sinist

I think Higby was just trolling us.

The only good part of a wall was the area they are putting panels over. The little part you could hide behind some cover and shoot down from.

Higby has a knack for trolling. I hope this is one of those times.

I really do think the level designers are so out of wack with what is good and bad that I wouldnt be surprised if somehow they can rationalize these panels as fixing something. Its like they just take a swing in the dark and hope to get it right without ever thinking it through first and letting it settle.

From what I have seen of Alpha walls, they were way better.

There's so many things wrong with this game. I guess this is a step in the right direction. But it's only about 0.00000001 percent of what needs to be done.
  17. Red 5

If anything these panels are going to increase the farm, as tanks now will have less spots that they have to watch/spam.

Still, interested in how things will turn out in-game.
  18. Xiphos

These walls still give cover for attackers who manage to take the walls and are now exchanging shots with defenders inside the base. They should remove all cover facing the inside of the base.

Zurvan Amp still has wide open backdoors that let Sunderers drive in and deploy.
  19. HadesR

They should add a single arrow slit to the center of each panel .. Not big enough for a rocket to fire out of, but just large enough for a LMG / Rifle
