G'day guys, Something I have been getting asked a lot lately is along the lines of "How do you not get burnt out from this game after 2 years of playing it?" and this is my response. How do you guys keep yourself interested in the game? What are some the best challenges you have given yourself? Have you ever taken a break from the game? If so, what do you think burnt you out? Hope you enjoy the video folks, leave some feedback down below - CAMIKAZE78
I have about 2600+ hours in Planetside and sometimes, I do get burned out... Sometimes I will step away for a couple days, or a couple weeks... and other times, if I am getting burned out it can be simply because I'm playing one faction too much, so I'll switch to a different faction for a few days. The beauty of playing on all different factions the game becomes slightly different based on the faction you choose... since each faction does have its own little quirks and traits.
It does depend on the game, as there are some games where it's weirdly impossible to work up the enthusiasm to play them again, even if you did actually enjoy playing them (Tribes: Ascend), but I find the instant a game's flaws start to get aggravating, I start getting way too critical of myself or others, or I just find that it's kinda boring all of a sudden and a change of scenery is needed, I bail and play something else for at least a month straight. Then I start getting the urge to go back and do something; I want to drive a Magrider again, or I've had a thought as to how to use a particular weapon effectively, then the game will suck me back in. Hence why I have such a hard time making friends in online games; I meet someone cool, play with them once, and then take a break from the game for a month and never speak to them again.
Yeah I'm not playing so much anymore which is a shame considering money and time invested. I was especially disappointed at the sorry state this game was left in over christmas. I sincerely hope that the move to Daybreak will improve Planetside further. It's the lack of new and interesting weapons, vehicles and class abilities that's really killing my interest. I imagine that I will relapse sometime this year and come back to Planetside 2 as my main form of entertainment.
Very insightful video. I understood it very well, having spent almost a decade on a particular game (Dark age of camelot). Burnouts are unavoidable, i've seen them happen often, and when that does often (always?) the players tend to blame the game's state. While there are ups and downs, i've never found that the latter was the true reason. It's quite possible balance issues and bugs, toxic community accelerate the burnout process, but they're not the main reason for it, even if they become the major gripe of those who feel said process. I've been there too, and while i never quite theorized how to solve it, i've always managed to set myself some achievable, albeit challenging goals when that happened. Sometimes stopping a little, in order to come back stronger. As far as PS2's concerned, as you said in the video, the endless killing started to feel redundant at some point. Up to november i hadn't paid attention to directives at all. In fact i have no interest in any achievement system per se (PSN trophies, Steam achievements etc...). I only have interest in tangible gameplay benefits, which the directive guns offer, even if underwhelming in quite a few cases (hello my Darkstar). This made me venture into different playstyles (lately scout infiltrator), and i must say i've loved it. I just hope the trend continues.
Slow periods when you cant find decent fight anywhere just peekaboo ghosthacks and few cheeky buggers trying to jump behind your back. Gets old fast.
