Average KD

The average K/D is not likely close to 1.0. That's not how it works. Here's an example:

In this battle there were 40 kills and 40 deaths:
    Player A had 12 kills and 6 deaths (2.0)
    Player B had 20 kills and 2 deaths (10.0)
    Player C had 5 kills and 20 deaths (0.25)
    Player D had 3 kills and 12 deaths (0.25)

The average KDR for this battle is 3.125.

    ----------------

As an aside, most KDR threads don't fill up with egotistical people gloating about their stats. It is the opposite. Most KDR threads fill up with tons of people who have a hatred for KDR and want to make sure everyone knows that it is a bad thing. Personally, I think KDR is useful. Yes there are many things to take into account, no KDR is not useless because of that. If people are judging others based solely on KDR that's because they're morons, not because KDR is bad.

    Three characters:

    VS: 1.34
NC: 0.8 (slowly climbing from .53)
    TR: 1.14

Someone mentioned the hero thing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to go engi and sneak in behind an enemy sundy with tank mines. Usually this means I run under the sundy and blow the mines from there. I just realized I might be killing my k/D doing so.. but it isn't going to stop me ;)

Also, I lead platoons on my NC (main). I think I'm safe, look at map planning strategy/next move and hear the awful ping.

There are MANY things that affect KDR. In the end, give me a platoon of guys who follow orders, stick together, and push en mass and I'm happier than when I have a bunch of "elites" who worry about dying.

The average would be above 1 because if someone gets a rez it doesn't count as a death and someone else still gets a kill.

The necromancy is strong in this 2012 thread.

Calculated by taking all deaths and all kills and putting it all into a pot...I'd guess like, 0.95

Taken as a measure of the average of individual KDRs, it's probably something in the range of 0.80. In fact I think it was calculated once awhile back and that's about what it came out to.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that lol, this is actually the second time. It got necroed in 2013 as well.

I'd wager it just under 1.

However, I reckon "real" KDRs (where revives still count as deaths) are much lower, around 0.7 or so, possibly lower.
  8. TopVanuTroll

No, it's easily much higher than 1. The sheer amount of revives throws it out of balance. Teamkills and suicides help to balance this out... a bit, but revives happen far more often. Unless you play NC.
  9. Leftconsin

"HEY! Can you revive my max!?"
    Medic walks away.
"Hey anyone there want some juicy revive certs?"
    Two more medics walk by.

OH OH OH! The worst is when you call for a medic when you're still alive and a medic walks up to you with the medic gun out and just stares at you..
    waiting for you to die...
    so he gets the revive...

Real KDRs are probably a bit lower than 1. All we are accounting for Real KDR is teamkilling and suicide, which happen a lot, but the volume of enemy kills probably brings it up to closer to 1. I know that per 1 hour session, I usually get around 2 or 3 TKs but I get inbetween 50 and 60 kills. Some people have more TKs while others have less. Either way, I believe it balances out.
  11. TheShrapnelKing

Uh....no, "real" KDRs are simply #of kills / #of deaths, with no refunded deaths from revives. The game still tracks this, it just doesn't list it as a ratio on your stats.
  12. TopVanuTroll

? Not sure what you are saying. I think in my previous post I was referring to the Real KDRs you are talking about. Did I calculate something wrong?
  13. TheShrapnelKing

You said "all we're accounting for with Real KDR is teamkilling and suicide". That's not what I meant. Teamkills and suicides still count in your official KDR too if you don't get revived. By "real" I mean that the number of deaths used is the actual total number of deaths you've incurred, rather than the number of deaths that you haven't been revived from.
  14. TopVanuTroll

I think I was referring to the same thing. What I was trying to point out was that the volume of cross faction kills is large enough that teamkills and suicides don't make a big difference. I provided the example where I get 50 to 60 kills and 2 teamkills. Let's take 60 kills. Let's say I killed the same guy 60 times. He is 0 and 60. I am 60 and 0. Let's also say I killed my teammate 2 times. He is 0 to 2. This means, added together, we are 60 to 62. This is very close to one, but a tiny bit under. 0.97 KD? Sorry, it's late, so forgive my math. So the average KDR was a bit under 1. What I'm trying to say is that there are enough cross faction kills to bring the KD back near one, rather the 0.7 which you suggested

What you calculated was not the average KDR, it was the KDR's average. You just added the KDR and devided them by 4. This is completely irrelevent data manipulation.

KDR means kill/death, which means the higher amount of Deaths (denominator) impact the average more, so you need to ponderate the average calculation. Since there are 40 deaths total it will be as so.
    6/40*2 + 2/40*10+ 20/40*0.25 + 12/40*0.25

    which equals 0.3 + 0.5 + 0.125 + 0.075 which equals 1 as it should.

If you want a simpler way, just add all the deaths and all the kills that were in that fight and devide the kills by the deaths which is 40/40 = 1/1 = 1.

I used the weighted average calculation first because it's the most used in finance because people don't want 40/40 or 1/1, they want the small individual ratios weighted equally (0.3 , 0.5 , 0.125 , 0.075)

Just trying to show you, no judging or hard feelings.

You people are forgetting about REVIVES. They take your death away but the other guy that killed you still has that kill.
  20. TopVanuTroll

No we aren't we are talking about the real KD of players. if you read some of the earlier posts, several of them included estimates with or without revives. However, the real KD of players is not tracked by the official site.
