[Guide] Auto Scout Rifles: Overlooked, unappreciated and AMAZING

Some footage highlighting the SOAS-20, the auto scout rifle available to infiltrators. The other factions share nearly identical attributes and can be used similarly to what you see here. Set to a soundtrack and annotated similarly to my "Art of Ninja: SMG" video, I hope this will be entertaining and informative for you all.

    Main loadout:
    SOAS-20: IRNV, Foregrip, Compensator
    NS-44 Commissioner: Laser sight
    Ammo Belt
    Hunter Cloak
    Medkits
    Frag Grenades

Music: Fear of a Blank Planet, by Porcupine Tree

I'll watch here, as well as my youtube channel for comments, if you want to talk more about the details of the weapon or how to use it. Or if you have questions about the loadout. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

I preferred the Stalker to the SMG's pre PU02, haven't tried it again since the update but any buff is going to make an already great under appreciated weapon even more awesome
  3. Furrydaus

its an amazing weapon for 250certs. you'll just need to use it for a while and improve your skills with it to allow the auto scout rifles to shine.
  4. NinjaTurtle

I agree, I think not enough people give it a chance and dismiss it too soon

I'm hoping to open a few eyes with this vid :)

Great vid! Gonna take a look on it too.

Seeing this makes me want to give the SOAS another whirl. I didn't wind up using it very extensively due to the release of the NS-7 PDW ending up pushing it out of my arsenal.

If the hip fire buff is noticeable then that would address one of my biggest hangups with the weapon which was that getting caught in CQC with it was painful. The PDW eked the SOAS out for me due to being able to slap a laser sight on it while still being able to reliably fire on people at medium range.

Looks like it's time to look for some medium range engagements today.

there are automatic sniper rifles? wat.
  10. Eklo

They're essentially an assault rifle with a small mag size.

Funny, it never even occurred to me to use a compensator on mine even in VR. It makes sense though as you drop the minimap giveaway everytime you cloak.

And I've been running the SOAS and NC equivalent recently since the cert investment isn't all that bad. They definitely have their uses.

I used to use my auto scout a lot and drifted away from it when I got the NS SMG. However, I've since come back to it and it's my go to infiltrator weapon, I use it more than my eridani and PDW.

Protip for vanus: the silenced Artemis is probably the quietest gun in the game. I've started running with a suppressed Artemis and suppressed cerberus, both are insanely quiet. Just find a hidden spot you can often exhaust ammo with both weapons before being spotted.

Think I'm gonna have to try with fore grip and compensator after seeing this though, very nice play (I normally run with suppressor and laser)

Damnit Mustarde! Why'd you have to go and tell them how good it is now!

Seriously though, it was a decent weapon in skilled hands before. Now with the hipfire buff and NW change it's beastly. Especially the Artemis with suppressor, it's probably the quietest weapon in the game now.

Not that I'm the one to criticize the great Mustarde, but don't you feel like you're a little overdoing it with those 20-30m headshots? I guess sniping habits die hard.

Still, I'm left actually wanting the new Infil weapons to be Scout Rifles, contrary to how excited I was about them being BASR. What you show in that vid is nothing that can't be done better with other weapons even post PU2, with less risk. Good stuff as always, good run.
  17. Rasui

Which weapon would that be, because I disagree. While the the ghost and other close range bolts are excellent. The auto scout rifles provide consistency that the other weapons lack.
  18. Mustarde

Yeah, as much as I LOVE to tower farm with a BASR, there's a lot of targets you have to pass up because you can't hit them while moving and you don't want to waste ammo or give away your position. With the ASR you can drill almost anyone who gives you enough room to take them out before reaching cover. Trust me, I'll always be a believer in the sniper rifle, but the ASR's give a lot of versatility to the class.

I didn't want to make this thread about the scoping changes they made to sniper rifles, but I can barely use the bolt actions after PU02. (https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2...has-been-altered-in-pu02.164257/#post-2353102) So until it's fixed, I've been getting a lot of great mileage on the SOAS-20.

Haha, well it goes to show how fast you can bring targets down with the weapon, especially after the NW nerf. Headshots are all that matters in small arms combat now imo.

Maybe the action was too quick for me to make out clearly, but I thought I saw some OHKs in that video where you Commissar'ed a few infils in the head. I recently did a test with a fellow NC and we found that even at level 1, Nano Armour Cloaking significantly reduces bullet damage and prevents those OHKs, though it does nothing against knife damage.

Would you consider Nano Armour to be a useful sidegrade? Or is the recharge time too important to pass up on the Hunter Cloak?
  20. Iridar51

No, I meant it was actually detrimental for you. You aim exactly at the head, like you would with a sniper rifle. First bullets hit the head, but then CoF gets too big and bullets just fly all around the head.
