ASR's need some love

Automatic Sniper Rifles are a weapon class that seems lack luster.

Why use them when SMG's are better?.

DBG should make them a more viable option.
  2. Garrum

Take them completely out of the game. The existence of bolt actions and scout rifles makes them 100% obsolete.

Interesting answer, could you explain why you think this?

You mean auto scout rifles? I like them more than SMGs. They are better when it comes to medium range while still being good at close range.

I'm a very mediocre player and the soas20 is one of the very few weapons I've auraxiumed. It's a nice weapon to ambush lonely targets and it performs much better than a smg at mid range.

They are completely worthless for actual sniping. Requiring 2 or more head shots with a slow RoF weapon leaves you way too open to be counter sniped. The existence of the straight pull bolt attachment for bolt actions just seals the semi auto's fate even more.

For close fighting, the Vandal class weapons outclass them with ease of use/sight selection (not logged in to check but I don't think the semi autos can use the 1-4x sights). Or just using an SMG. Even the auto scout rifles might be better.

I quite like my ASL to be honest... like most things, you've just got to use it right.

To those who like the Weapon type I have a question for you.

If you were to give the weapons a buff of some sort, what would it be?
  9. Epicstrat

Not that I think it needs a buff, but I would increase the max and min damage ranges. Also, add a new round of scout rifles as faction specific weapons.
  10. Garrum

Ok, hang on. Is this about semi auto sniper rifles or is this about automatic scout rifles? Because people are talking about both, and you aren't making any clarifications.
  11. Shadowomega

I say turn them into a weapon platform that feels like a G3a3/SCAR-H but wider damage range, and access to 6x scope.

200@20m 167@85m and a bullet speed of 640 m/s they can figure the recoil and CoF afterward.
  12. Scr1nRusher

    Automatic scout rifles.
  13. Mustarde

ASR's are great, I love them, and they are fine.

If you wanted to give me more velocity, I wouldn't complain.
  14. Garrum

They can't actually be buffed because giving ARs (what any buffs would turn them into) to invisible ninja fanboys would be almost as bad as giving them shotguns. If you up the damage, you just gave them a Gauss Rifle or Reaper DMR. If you lower the damage and increase the fire rate, you cut into SMG and specialty TR AR territory. If you make them something like a 698/125, no one would use them (unless they had like zero recoil and probably not even then). Like the semi auto sniper rifles, auto scout rifles are doomed from the start.
  15. cbplayer

    lol no
My largest killstreaks are from ASRs, you just need to flank the enemy.

If you using infri on head to head combat, you doing it wrong
ASRs are best outside of bases and are good close range weapons
  16. Garrum

Anything you can do with an ASR, you can do better with a heavy scout rifle/short range bolt action or SMG up close.

Your personal killstreaks do not make ASRs good. I have a higher KDR with the Pulsar LSW than the Orion, but no honest person on this planet is going to say the Pulsar is a good gun.
  17. cbplayer

maybe I don't want to use a bolt action, SMGs have the range of a shotgun, Do you mean semi scout rifles(?) because they are in the same as semi action snipers
  18. Jawarisin

They are actually quite good at medium range and will out-gun an SMG at those ranges.
  19. Scr1nRusher

But that also depends on the gun & the shooter.
  20. Jawarisin

So does everything, with equal players, the scout rifle will win against an SMG at medium range. And it's really not so bad up close (although less ideal).

It just requires to aim for the head more than an SMG does.
