People are far from perfect in this game, yes you can absolutely ace some people with your pistol sometimes. Maybe in a scenario where bad people and misplays were not a thing then yes the pistol shouldn't ever win. But also in my case where I was saying a pistol could sometimes beat a gun with a larger cone of spread if given bad luck to the opponent but you should always take whatever free kills the game will gift you. The pistol is actually not that bad and an opponent and sometimes enemies are not even full health and sometimes enemies don't have a full barrel of ammo. There are too many reasons why a pistol can win and not to mention its maybe 20% weaker damage is well made up for by being drawn for that extra second earlier. My argument is not that the A.S.P system doesn't create more options, just the competitiveness of running these options in most cases is fairly limited (what you mentioned in having duel primaries, is not as broken as you think and probably worse than running with a pistol), they've implemented it in such a way that they don't want to create anything too powerful and by doing this they've created a bunch of load outs that people are never going to use. You're also forgetting that you're limited to 5 A.S.P choices and that this is only for reaching BR 100 again. So You'll not see many this high on the A.S.P system for 2-3 years. But I am certain that the first few choices people will pick are discounted vehicles and the grenades. Because the grenades offer very useful side-grade options. If they decide to add anything broken you can complain all you like but have a good look at every option available and most of them aren't even very good, some of them are just viable side grade options.
You came out with a Pistol, due to draw-speed being why two-primary weapons has no impact on gameplay, for 3 posts. With the most situational moment possible, that would place the user dead-to-rights unless the Sidearm is either more deadly than the Primary, the opponent can't hit a target, and the user is a God shot. If someone catches someone who has to switch weapons, and it's not considered hedge-case, that their sidearm draws faster than their primary, while the opponent already has them in sight, and would already opened fire, yet that Pistol-user won.. There is a bloody problem with the Pistol, when that situation is common-place. The VS Spiker can kill a MBT with the same rational, allowed to bloom here, that two-primaries has no impact on the game. Which was the entire opening line, you've been defending this entire time. If you're going to switch from "NO IMPACT" to "Not OP", you best just straight say it. As "No Impact" would mean no detectable change at all, to the gameplay -- Which means, nothing would change. Not "Vets would not be raised to where they are unbeatable" as that implies there is a change in that.. 5 ASP choices. Yes, so this means No impact from any of these choices.. Since Grenades on different classes, changes nothing? Apparently? Heavy Weapons & Normal Weapons? Apparently Nothing? Yeah, the ASP options aren't godly-as-hell, but they do have a damn impact on gameplay. Try to say with a straight face, that Having entirely different weapon choices, is un-noticeable. Unless your Pistol is a straight up Primary weapon, that is vastly noticeable. In which case, let's investigate some sidearms, as apparently they're able to effectively work in a situation where a Primary loses by not even a second...
I also think infiltrators are given the worst options. I don't even think primary sidearms is good. Like I understand potential combinations with the hunter QCX + like an underboss + NSX Amaterasu if timed well could kill the enemy before they've noticed any damage but that is insane to pull off. That and yeah you are absolutely right about the grenades, they already have good grenades, why swap them, versus a heavy that is forced into regular grenades or concussion, suddenly has access to smoke grenades, which I actually think are insanely good.
My opinion is purely that nobody will pick these weapon variants for secondary, they are not even better than the other options. Your typical seasoned player will probably be looking at these options: -Universal smoke/decoy grenades (will probably take one or the other) -Will probably take 2-3 of the discounted vehicles -Engineers may be looking to pick up the anti vehicle/emp grenades -some people may pick sticky nades on infiltrators just to be troll I can imagine peoples thoughts like, wouldn't it be cool if I could have a shotgun sidearm etc... but in actuality they'll get there unlock it and then trial it, see its actually not all that good. Realise they are stuck with it, and have a wasted slot. The OP of this was you mentioned that you thought the A.S.P abilities were going to give an unfair edge, I personally think they might make a player more versatile, in being able to pick up better grenades on the heavy or engineer most specifically, but I also think that foremost you'll maybe see an extra tank or an extra plane, maybe some more smoke. Is this really going to ruin your day. High levels can now blow more smoke at you?
Which puts ASP well past No-Impact. Not to mention ASP is getting a reset-switch - followed by, they plot more to it. Every little bit, is that much more a BR-100 has over anyone who isn't BR-100, in terms of raw options. That is on top of skills, certed-out equipment, in a game of sidegrades, ASP offers upgrades in aspects. If the word "better" is used, it is a literal advantage, an edge, when the same class lacks it unless at that ranking. Do I find a point in the grenade ones? They aren't as changing as, if someone is sporting an entire primary built-to-purpose when they walk out of a room, to having an entirely different primary as they walk into it. Ruin my day, of responding to a man who calls "Not giving an unfair edge" as "No Impact" to an entire thread about ASP skill concerns.. Not to mention, Smoke grenades are generally crap - Either wiped away by BS, ignored by Spots, plentiful scopes, or for once useful. More smoke, wouldn't even make the thing more useful, or better, unless that means longer duration.
Yeah but I am not meaning to ruin your day. I addressed the core of the ASP skill concerns, I'm having healthy discussion about what has been shown so far and truth is I don't have any concerns. I think smoke grenades are just fine though, you can use a HS/NV scope and see right through the smoke. I still think emp grenades are perhaps the best of the whole lot. If you want to have an absolute fair experience in this game, there is always koltyr, grinding, or playing against friends on empty maps. Or... get a good squad together. Nothing is an easier cheese than a 2-5v1 scenario.
I argued similar previously, Most of the grenades are not worth purchasing to unlock them on a single class. but if they were unlocked on all classes I'd consider them worth an ASP Skill. I know there would be concerns over a Stalker with 4 AV 'nades and an explosive bolt crossbow but as with all the other concerns, this would be a fun thing for a while them most people would get bored of it and return to playing ways that are objectively better at hunting armour. Bear in mind you only get 5 ASP skills so making a selection of 10-15 "Very good" or "Must have"ones results in a wide arrange of diversity forcing players to pick what they REALLY want.
So, just the perspective of someone that's played the game off and on for a couple years but still isn't anywhere near BR100. The only thing in the entire list of ASP skills that excites me is the possibility of carrying a shotgun as an Engineer while I've got my Archer equipped. That's it. When I first heard about the ASP system I thought "ooh, a reason to really push to BR100". Then I saw the ability choices and went back not caring about my BR. I also doubt any of the ASP options have led to me being pwnd more often I otherwise would be. They all sound much more impactful as quality-of-life upgrades for the user than as any increase to the power curve.
I dont deel like the asp players pushed the game more than it is now, actually i didnt feel a change in gameplay at all.
