Hello dear community members, When I got the email about the new ASP system I was somewhat thrilled at the prospect of coming back to the game after a long period of inactivity containing some sporadic sessions. I was thinking it might be fun to just go back to level one while keeping my unlocked pieces of equipment (good decision on this one) and toy around with the new possibilities offered by the skills displayed. The first thing that utterly disappointed me was the lack of love for the infiltrator, its my main class and could care less about the new grenade options (I actually disregard all alternative grenade options on every class, having only 5 points to spend ultimately, to be honest...). But the thing that made me turn tail was quite simple. I start the game, get to the player screen under the new tab for the ASP system and come to a realization: It's either get a Membership or grind an additional 10k Certs. Yet another dirty money grab. That right there had me go: Nope nope nope. Closed the game. My two cents.
I agree with the lack of love for the infiltrator... I play that class the most as well.. I am very disappointed about it and won't go the ASP route because of it, even though I have a player from each faction at 100 and above BR. But... Daybreak already has money from me... Many 100's of dollars from both membership and buying daybreak cash.. So... I guess they are not losing anything from me. I do believe though, that more people should support the game financially. Planetside is really one of only a few choices for a MMOFPS game and should be supported to keep it going. It would be a shame for it to disappear because of lack of funding. Many who complain while not having any financial investment in the game, should be happy with what they have.
You know, I used to spend money on that game. Back in the days where I made a post about the camo being divided in three separate groups for each color (Infantry Weapons, Infantry armor and vehicule)... Back then to have one color going on all of your stuff it was 30$. Still got my membership nonetheless and they eventually listened back then. The thing is, I only complain when I care. I would want to spend money on this game once more, its just not worth it. Base building is useless now, AA got nerfed so all the A2G douches gone rampant, got some suspicions about players during my previous sessions with one openly admitting he was Aimbotting during low pop (maybe he trolled but yeah... over 10 people where alarmly getting rekted one after the other ... when it came to me I just casually asked and got a yes for an answer). and now this, the promise of something to do if I get those extra 6 levels on my main character. I considered getting a membership just for those! The issue is that I vote with my wallet. I do not want to encourage such business practice. 10K is a lot of certs. There is a lot to unlock in this game. It's too much of a middle finger in my face, I'd rather encourage someone more honest.
The amount of experience you need to earn to get to BR100 is 18,868,950 (according to the wiki). That's 75,475 certs. You will earn that 10k seven times over as a matter of course of playing the game to the battle rank you need for the system. If, on the other hand, you just don't want to play the game, you're wasting our time with this argument. This game is not going to be made super revolutionary fun all over again because the developers added one or two little features. This is just a high level variety pack. Either you like playing this game for what it is, or you don't and won't. Edit of edit: sorry, really tired math the first time around.
Even if you managed to maintain a 100 cert an hour earn rate, or a 25,000 xp an hour, thats still 755 hours minimum required if you don't have a membership. Considering that maintaining 100 certs an hour gain rate is not an easy thing to do ( I usually average anywhere between 60 to 100), its can be expected to take a fair while longer then this, with 1000 hours being likely much closer to the actual amount of time needed.
I've already said, "Either you like playing this game for what it is, or you don't and won't." Let's be honest. Holstering a second rifle isn't going to make the game immensely more fun if the first one didn't do it for you.
Here's the thing - no one forces you to go down the ASP route even if it is free (to members IIRC). I'm disappointed in the infil thing as I play that class a fair bit but I also run the other classes according to the battle I'm in and the idea of a secondary shotty or an AR primary for engies s pretty interesting. I might even run a heavy weapon on my occasional HA stints. I'm not sure what I would spend the other ASP points on though; carbine for Medic, other 'nades and cheaper vehicles don't really do much for me. Still, plenty of time to see what else comes along as ASP develops.
So true and so amazing that people believe any game is worth more than $20/year. It absolutely amazes me how ignorant players are about how little servers actually cost. It's the constant updates (which are totally unnecessary except maybe once every 6 months) that cost so much.
I don't know about you but I LOVE my shotgun secondary, being able to use that and not **** your range capability at the same time is a game changer for me. This update also being mainly for veteran players, you know, the people who have been playing the game consistently and quite literally kept the game alive. Not for new players where the 90% majority never make it past rank 10 BTW anyone who reaches BR 100 will have thousands of certs banked already, but honestly $15 to save 10k certs is well worth it imo.
i see alot of people allways saying " 15$ is not much to pay for a membership " but this seems to come from people that can aford it. not the people that play this game becuse its free to play lets break it down to a simpler thing for the small minded people that think daybreak does not have the money to maintain the servers of this game and beleave this not to be a cash grab. if planetside 2 was shut down tomarrow. daybreak could wipe there *** with the money that was made from this game and still have planty left over to burn lighting cigars off of 100$ bills for the next 10 years or more. this game has not netted them as much money as there other games. the only reason this game is still running is becuse it has such a huge fan base of free to play players and whales that keep comeing back for the abuse that is this games play style. daybreak allready makes tuns of cash. off there pay to play games. and all the crap thats in them to buy off the shops. the devs have secure jobs if this game gets shut down becuse they will simply be transfured to eather a new game or one of the current ones that daybreak allready has up. add into it that ill say 90% of people that play a game for free that dont pay into it is becuse they do not have 15$s to spare on a game at all. yes thats right. not every one can live in there mothers basment go to school work a job and still blow money on a game each paycheck letalone once a year. most if not all people that do play a game that is F2P are paying so many bills that they do not have the option to take 15$s out of there check just to buy into a latent cash grab by a game company that quite franky is ****. i my self will not suport a game company that outright ignores hackers in there games. ignores player feed back. and ignores there vet player base. some games have even lost my patrionship to there games over theses issues. the only reason i even play this game right now is becuse im in a good outfit and i enjoy hanging out with and killing **** with. if it was not for the outfit im part of. i wouldnt be playing this game at all. if daybreak wants to make money off this game. they need to change there stance of how to make it. 10000 certs is the max a free to play player can have at any given time. once they it that point they stop makeing certs. that means if there saveing up to get ASP and hit that point without relizing it they reseve no more. add into it that there is so much that you need to upgrade thoughout the game before you ever reach BR 100 there is no chance in hell that you are going to have 10k certs at any point at all. someone mentioned upabove that on there best day they only make about 100 certs an hour. ill rase the bar for them. as a casual player in an 8 hour time frame even doing everything i can to do so. i avrage about 200 certs. thats less then 15-20 certs an hour. and thats in an 8 hour time. and i only play that long on the game on the days i can. any other time. i avrage rogughtly 100 - 150 certs a day. doing that math on that its going to take me somewheres around 5-6 mounths just to get 4k certs if that. (( im not doing the hard math on it becuse its time consuming but you get the point )) see people that are raking in theses tuns of certs as non members are also doing so becuse they have above avrage skill in the game or have the time to play nearly each day for exstended periods of time. members make about 600 certs per hour as someone has said in another forum post some where. i slightly beleave this. and its becuse they are hand feed 2X xp boosts and other perks that the non payed players dont get. but in all reality theres no other incentive to buy into this game at all other then the XP boost. so why waist my hard earned cash to make certs faster. when that 15$s could be oh i dont know used to take out ones wife. or spoil there kids with a moive. or i dont know have a life outside of the game that is free to play ? or even just pay a doctor bill. or a car bill. or gas so you can get too and from work. or maybe treat your self to a new pair of shoes or pants or underware ! most of the people that pay into this game dont seem to live in the real world where money is something that is used daily by the lesser privliged to take care of things that you need rather then luxery items such as member ships to a free to play game. anyway back on OPs point. the new ASP system is **** anyway. i have a few people in my outfit that have memberships (( one guy baught its back in the days when SOA owned this game and is not going to cancel it just becuse daybreaks not holding up there end of the bargen of fixing the game no point waisting something such as a lifetime membership when he payed only a few hundrid dollers for it so long ago )) have allready used there first perk point. and with the fact that there is no refunding it there stuck with whatever they pick. so if the system gets changed down the road. whats the point ? u get 5 points only and if you pick the wrong thing. you cant on pick it and move it to something else. your stuck with that choise add into it that 10K is over priced for the free to plays. and you have an ovius cash grab that is not going to fail but at the same time is not going to make as much as the devs hoped for.
unless you are in extreme financial difficulty, you can afford a one time purchase of $15 dollars, it's 3 cups of coffee from starbucks or a pizza, if you have any disposable income at all you can afford a one time purchase of $15. it sounds to me more like you are ******** about people who know how to budget and trying to demean them for being able to afford a subscription more then complaining about ASP and no contrary to your ignorant views you don't need to live in your mother's basement to afford $15 once, you only need the ability to budget when you have some disposable cash.
It blows my mind that someone would spend hundreds (if not thousands) of hours playing a game for free then cringe at the idea of paying even $15 to support the game. I carried my sub for months of not playing just because I wanted to continue to support the game even when taking breaks. Im sure many others have done the same. I am not talking about those of you who have an issue with spending MORE, I am talking about people who refuse to spend ANY. Noone has a budget that is that tight. Even a 12 year old kid can go mow some grass for 20 bucks. If you play the game and enjoy the game then support the game.....
they don't pay even a tiny amount because they want everything free and when confronted by the fact that they can pay they try to cry that they can't afford it, when they obviously can.
and again its people that think that everyone dont know how to buget there money seem to allways voice in on spending it. sorry to burst your bubble in the real world. real people dont have the budget to spend money on free to play games. insted there paying real bills and not liveing with there mommys and daddys not everyone lives in the world that the 2 of you seem to. where they have the money to blow in a game thats again " free to play " let alone any games at all. people like you seem to think EVERYONE has money to there name ALL the time. in reality no they dont. if there paying bills and loans. have kids. or are taking care of insurinces and other things. they dont have as much as you think they might. even liveing in some states working minamum wage is not enough to pay all the bills that come in. let alone taxes as well as other debt one might have. you have it in your minds that everyone is " as well off " as you are. and have mostlikely never had to go a day without food becuse you had rent to pay. or bills to pay. that came before you ate. ill wager that you have never seen an empty dinner table where a pack of roman was your dinner becuse thats all you COULD afford. i could rip deep into the finatel needs of a family of a single parent that has to work 2 jobs just to put food on there table becuse there rent is so high and there not makeing enough take home cash becuse of debt that there in like student loans that follow you for life. or doctor bills becuse there child or them self is sick or hurt and haveing to miss work at there low income job that does not give them sick leave. or sick pay. but there union and forced to take the no pay while there in a hospital. people that live in low income houseing becuse that is all they can afford each mounth. to people and familys like that they do not have the money to pay for a 15$ membership for a cash grab from a greedy company that has more money in there pockets then the player base will ever see in there life. but when someone like that makes a complant about a system that is broken or a thing that is an oveus push to the market of the game so that the company can " make more money " there the bad guys becuse they wont and CANT pay into a game they play. now your place silver spoon pricks. just becuse you have money and can blow tuns of money on a game. dont mean the rest of the world does. get over your selfs and ****
you are complaining about a tiny amount of money and whining that it should be free and anyone that disagrees with you is supposedly 'well off' enough to spend as you say blow tons of money on a game? it's $15 ONCE. please cut the ********, everyone that doesn't pay even the tiniest amount of money in F2P games are not experiencing extreme financial difficulties, some may be but not all. there's a difference between having money and having the desire to spend it to support the game, after the necessities of life. free to play only means free to log in and play, you really shouldn't expect that you'll have access to everything in a F2P game, servers cost money to keep up, it costs money the develop the game, shareholders demand return on investment, DBG is a company, companies exist to make money.
You sound like a ******* peasant. Maybe if you didn't work at McDonald's you could afford to pay $15 to support the game. PM me your email I will send you the $15 for ***** sake. I just want to see people keep playing and keep supporting this great game.
How ??? how do you ever only get 15-20 certs per hour ?? Im not at all a good player, but i go into combat as a medic / engineer when needed, revive 15 players, and i got 8-10 certs. That is a 5 minute job. I pull a MBT/Lightning and i go shoot enemy tanks. play a little smart, dammage 2 or 3 that are killed at the end, or kill 1 (with a lil luck and no steal) urself and u get 2 certs. again, few minutes of driving in a tank. If u can fly, take out a ESF and go fight enemy aircraft, get a few down and u got a few certs. In heavy combat use a Max suit with 2x bursters for this.. or a skyguard(could even rental it if needed for just 30 minutes!!). I main medic, so my KD is complete crap, i fly aswell as an engineer, drive tanks and go to combat where they need help. this is netting me between 150-200 certs per hour ( im a member) so thats with 50% buff. make that 100-150 for a non member. If u can only make up to 15-20 per hour, you are doing something completly wrong.. like bigtime. If i realy realy need Certs, i join in 100+ combat as a medic, revive people and don't shoot unless needed(self defence) and certs are going crazy. If there's heavy Max combat going, be an engineer, repair those maxes, resupply them, easy certs! Realy want to invest in something with ur certs ? upgrade medic/engineer pistol so u repair / heal faster. get urself a hardlight barrier, and get draw fire ribbons in bio laps! they're like 1/2 a kill worth of exp each! and u get them.... ALOT!. Hope you enjoy the game tho, but with 15-20 certs an hour i can imagine it's truely hard.
