[Guide] Apex Helmet for Combat Medic

Hey all, I have an interesting suggestion for Combat Medics.

I want to start off by saying, for months now, I've unsuccessfully been trying to petition the dev's to change how vivid the Apex helmet glows, especially in the daytime. I primarily play HA and I've had the Apex helmet since they introduced them and still wear it from time to time. But currently only has one pro, it takes on camo. In day and night, it gives away your position quite easily. Now I can understand it glowing at night but it isn't right in the day time considering all other glowing sections on our models aren't as vivid in the day (all models have some part that illuminates). Either way it doesn't seem like any of the dev's have taken notice to those posts or made a mention of changing it.

But after playing a round tonight I had an interesting realization (maybe others have thought of it too). This helmet could have a worthwhile use for a Medic. Hear me out.

Depending on your playstyle & preferences the Apex's ability to make you visible can come in handy. Tonight there was a Medic that was doing his job as usual but he was wearing an Apex helmet and I really came to appreciate it. He was very visible, shuffling around the battlefield and I and others would always know where he was so we could run to him for help. This helmet could help you earn more EXP because friendly troops can see where you are easier and you don't have to get bombarded by "MEEEDIC" shouts when you're 5m away. Of course this depends on if you lean more on the Support side rather than Combat side of the Medic. But I think it's an interesting investment for Medics (especially on a 2x, 3x SC day) and it seems like currently the Medic is the only one that can actually put it to good use.

LOL - Was he posing with his helmet for the last screenshot?

Had to tap the screenshot key on Fraps like crazy to get a shot of him there haha. That was when I first noticed him and we were getting bombarded. I ended up following him with others after that. =p

Not sure if you bother with it, but when I play as a solo MAX, I usually try to invite as many Engineers as possible.

Helps with showing their green name across the base as well as gives them a higher incentive to heal/repair you because they get more points for it.

If they decline the invite the first time, message them about the potential squad XP and how there's no loss but only gain for joining a squad versus healing alone.

But yes, I do agree. Maybe in the future there could be an icon over their head which differs from the "I need a medic" or "I need repairs" icon so that you can indicate which support classes are where, other than running out to search them.

You're assuming other people now enough to look for the helmet. I think you're overestimating the average player there ;)
That perk, vs having a big red "Shoot ME!" target on your head? No thanks.

I remember our futile attempt to bring that topic to the attention of the devs.

It seems this item is not decisive for SOE from an economical point of view. In other words, only a few people spend those 750 SC for the helmet, so nobody cares :(

Its the best looking helmet by far. It blends perfect with our camos. Tbh, it sucks to be seen at night, when in comparison the vanus are the perfect stealth fighters, dont see many advantages with it

PS: sadly in most cases nobody at SOE listens, until you post this topic with a very aggressive title in the general discussion section. That explains why all the aggressive kiddies get their will sooner or later and reasonable posts not.

You're getting the assumption wrong. It's not that people will assume Apex Helmet = Medic, it's that it is more Visible, more Noticeable, it gets someones attention. It's really just a suggestion though for Support style Medics (ones that run around with heal tool), rather than Combat ones (where stealthiness is key to your playstyle, mainly AR players). It's totally preference though. I'm just pointing out that the Medic is the only one that would benefit at all from the Apex helmet.

Also if you haven't noticed almost all models have an illumination spot, even default ones.
