    OS:Windows 7
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 3.00 Ghz
    Memory: 7gb
    Video: Amd Radeon HD 4970( 1gb GDDR 5)
    Sound Card: Amd High Definition Audio Device
    Motherboard: EVGA 680i(122-CK-NF68)

    I run just about all games in max settings but planetside 2 I get like 10-20 fps. My friend told me it could be because my dual core processor but idk if thats it. If it is would upgrading to http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Extreme-QX6700-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B000JNNAU0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_4 help?
    I really don't have money nor will I get some anytime soon so any ideas? I have the newest amd driver installed 12.11(beta) I believe.

    Your problem is in red. The 4970 doesn't help much but at this point the processor is a much larger problem.

    Is that an E6600 or a Q6600? You said dual but I want to be sure. Either way it's not going to do well. I highly doubt you play all games on max settings with a 2.4 Core 2 Duo that was mid-range in 2007.

    A QX6700 would not help much. The Q9xxx top of the line Core 2 Quads don't do so well in PS2. You're looking at an Core i series to or newer FX to play effectively.

    http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/planetside-2-system-specs.46998/

    Current Recommended System Requirements
    • OS: Windows 7
    • Processor: Intel i5 processor or higher / AMD Phenom II X6 or higher
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Hard Drive: 15 GB free
    • Video Memory: 1,024 MB RAM
    • Video Card: nVidia GeForce 500 series or higher / AMD HD 6870 or higher
    • Sound Card: DirectX compatible
    You are only just within the minimum requirements for this game..........

    Thanks so much for the quick reply. Question tho, If I buy the intell qx6700 would my frame rate be alot better? Also are you sure its compatible with my board. The processor slot is LGA 775.
  5. TheAppl3

    ...and as we all know, the minimum for Planetside 2 in particular is the "It will turn on" requirement. It's pretty far below describing a consistently playable 30fps+ system.

    Both the E6600 and Q6600 use LGA775. The QX6700 uses the same socket. As I'm 99% sure I said in my first post, it would not make much of a difference. You're looking at a difference from 10-20 to 12-24. It's not even close to worth it. No Q-series CPU is going to maintain 30+ at all times without a massive overclock on the most expensive chips.
  6. riker

    your gonna need a serious computer if you want to play at 30- 50 fps all the time, i have a good laptop that is quite powerful but i can barely manage 28 fps all the time, appl13 is right, you need a better processor, rmrmber the more Ghz the better, get an i5 or a decent i7, makes the best, other than that bit of me stating the obvious, apple13 knows more, ask him hes cool
  7. sheldenv12

    What cpu do you recommend me getting can you link me to one? I want something strong enough to play the game but at the same time cheap.
  8. TheAppl3

    Your LGA775 motherboard won't accept anything but the Core 2 Duo/Quad processors, none of which are truly sufficient for Planetside 2. You would need a motherboard upgrade and in turn a RAM upgrade in order to get a newer CPU. If you're willing to go with that, the optimal setup is an i5-3570k, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and a Z77 motherboard. It highly depends on your budget though.

    Plus with the 3570k you would still be very limited by your 4970.
  9. Sliced

    I'm not to sure that the motherboard would accept it.
    I'm not totally sure the die size of the CPU. It could range from a 65nm to 45nm.
    Some older boards would not accept 45nm, some would with a bios update. It's a risk unless you do some reading.
    If it is supported then you can try it. My other machine is a Q9400 OC'ed and it runs PS2 ok, between 20-50fps but that's a 7 year old machine. There is no way I would spend cash on it now to run a newer game.

    It's time to let the computer be and buy a new one. Upgrading it will only burn money.

    Sound I found a video with someone with WORSE specs then me(I currently upgraded to a quad core 2.33GHZ) and he plays the game on highest settings fine so please **** about minimum requirements lol ;)

    Also found out I got a ati radeon 4870 512mb ddr5 maybe I have the wrong driver and that would make planetside 2 run better?
  11. BenYeeHua

    You can try the mod driver on Guru3d, one person has reply that increase the Planetside2 performance.
  12. sheldenv12

    Alright I'ma try that asap when I get home. But also any other ideas. I've also tried overclocking my gpu from 400ghz to about 645ghz and my memory from 500 to 1150 ghz and didn't get much of a difference. Although I was on highest settings I was getting the same frames as I would on lowest settings which is strange. No matter what settings or render distance my frames just constantly suck in the same areas. At warp gate I get 10-30 frames usually around 20. In a battle under 10 frames, usually around 7,8, or 9. I just installed amd catalyst 13.1 and tried tweaking settings but didn't seem to get much of a difference.
    Maybe FOV makes a difference too? I have my FOV at 55 which is what it was normally on when I first start o.o
  13. BenYeeHua

    So it is your CPU issue, try this?
    Code:
    [Display]
    RenderQuality=0.700000
    [Rendering]
    GraphicsQuality=2
    TextureQuality=1
    ShadowQuality=0
    RenderDistance=1000.000000
    Gamma=0.000000
    MaximumFPS=250
    UseLod0a=1
    VSync=0
    AO=0
    OverallQuality=-1
    LightingQuality=1
    FogShadowsEnable=0
    EffectsQuality=1
    TerrainQuality=1
    FloraQuality=0
    ModelQuality=4
    ParticleLOD=1
    MotionBlur=0
    VerticalFOV=55
    ForceGpuPhysics=0
    GpuPhysics=0
    ParticleDistanceScale=0.4500000
    [Sound]
    SampleRate=44100
    If you click Alt+F in-game and still getting 30[CPU], then I can't help you too much.
    But if it showing as 45[GPU], then it is fine.
  14. sheldenv12

    Alright thanks will try asap.
    Also if that doesn't work what if I try upgrading my motherboard and cpu. From lga 775 2.33ghz quad core to a lga 1155 3.1ghz quad core and a gigabyte lga 1155 board?
  15. Ruxxis

    Intel core i3.
    If core i3 is too expensive, then Athlon II X4 750k.
    I recently played PlanetSide2 on my new Athlon 750k @4.2GHz and it's almost as fast as my core i3 530 @4.15GHz.
    core i3 costs $120-130. Athlon II x4 750k only costs $80-85.
    If you can spend even more, then choose core i5.

    Don't waste money on upgrading your current PC.
    My previous PC was a Q6600 (quad core) @ 3GHz. My core i3 530 @4.15GHz can make winrar files 3 times faster!

    For now, keep your graphics card. cpu upgrade is more important.
  16. TheAppl3

    i3-2130 for $130 will cut it if you need to save some money. Otherwise the 3350P (the only 3.1 1155 quad I can think of) is pretty good. A 3570k for $45 more is certainly much better due to a stock 500MHz higher turbo clock and the ability to easily overclock another 500-800MHz on top of that. If you're stuck at the i3's price tag, consider an FX-6300 as well. If however you can get the i5, that will do better.

    Any of those three will give you a significant improvement over a Q6600 though.
  17. Ruxxis

    Full retail price of a i5-3570k is more than 200 USD. Most people do not live near a Microcenter. And microcenter charges tax. add fuel costs to drive there and back. If you can buy a box 3570k for only $175 USD, buy lots of them and resell them for a small profit.
  18. Paulus

    People can't get stuff mailed to them where you live? i bought my components from an internet supplier and get got delivered by parcel van.
  19. TheAppl3

    ...and since the 3350P that he's talking about is $180, my figure of $225 is about accurate. I had mentioned the 3350P immediately before saying $45 more. Not sure where you're going with this.
  20. Ruxxis

    He is not (yet) talking about the 3350P. You are. Next time, be more clear, especially when you write "$45 more" without clearly specifying more than what.
