Any official statement on the lags on EU servers?

I have no UDP flood prot. in my router. (custom router OS OpenWRT on an Netgear WNDR3700 router)

I have PS2 installed on an brandnew SSD and i have also hitches.

Connery is the west coast server

i have a V-DSL internet access, which is common in europe and i have already around 50-70 ms roundtrip to the gateway of my provider.
The ping is so high because of error correction protocols on the V-DSL transport medium (usally an copper wire).
I managed to get that fast path option (lower ECC overhead) a few month ago, but even than the ping only decreases to 40-60 ms to the providers gateway. Which is unnoticeable during gaming.
(Anyway, silently my provider removed that fast path option again, don't know why..don't care)

I think 140 ms should be ok for gaming. TTK in PS2 is something around 400 - 700 ms for foot infantry. (in normal condition without cheating)
We have a client hit detection on PS2. That means anyway the packets have to travel client--server--client, with ALL latencys summed during packet transit.

The bad news is when the enemies ping is assymetrical, means incoming and outgoing packets have different ping latencys on his internet access, then the guy with an high incoming ping and a low outgoing ping has some slight advantages.
Because his (enemies) outgoing packet "hits" your client a little bit earlier. Your packet has slightly more delay until it arrives on his client.
Means his bullets are quicker in the target. Which results in quicker dead of you on your client...
(Please somebody correct me if i am wrong)

Ping spikes are not necessarily a problem on the gameserver alone. (if at all)
There are many "hops" (peerings/routers) the packet have to transit until the packet arrives from client to the gameserver.
If only one of this hops/routers is saturated or has an configuration problem then this latency spikes appears.

Another reason can be packet priorisation at your providers side or somewhere in between your client/Internet Access and the gameserver. Means other services like internet telephone or TV gets more bandwith then UDP gaming packets.

Anyway, i played this evening abt. 6 hours on connery and the ping was stabil 240-250ms. occasionly i swiched to miller and the spikes appear again. So i think its not on my providers side.

SOE have to take care of it. Look for a new european hoster or whatever.

Since Wednesdays update (March5th) lag spikes and ping instability has been atrocious on Miller (Haven't tried other EU servers)
Usual stable ping of 40-50ms .... note stable.
The mad fluctuations of ping/latency makes the game almost unplayable
Many players in the outfit are experiencing the same issue, ... spread across many EU countries, and some in the US ... it's not an issue with a specific IP ..
Like the issues a few weeks ago .. there is something 'not right' with either the hardware of the server hosts or their routing

Tragically it really doesn't seem to be, which is what makes this response so frustrating.

Across my three outfits, I haven't heard one person saying they're not having issues. Some are less severe... You know, like, only one CTD and a couple of 5000ms ping spikes... Others are several CTDs and constant 5000ms ping... But I don't know anyone on Miller not affected at least a few times a day.

I'm still getting latency probs, hitching, and last night the game was simply lagging even-though my ping was "ok" and my fps were fine (in the 100s).
  7. Captain Kid

    Yeah, typo.
My point is, even without these spikes, the ping on Ceres (or other European servers) is to high.
  8. Selerox

Pretty much every European player is suffering from poor server performance right now, either intermittently or constantly. This is not a user hardware issue. This is not a user connection issue. This is a server issue. This is an SOE issue.

The fact that European players aren't experiencing these issues on US servers points the finger very, very clearly at Sony Europe.
  9. AdamRah

Hey I've got 14mb per second internet and im getting 9000! ping in large battles my station name is AdamR970 Char: AdamRah and my server is Ceres
  10. Goretzu

Tried to play again a bit today.

My ping seems fine (~68 displayed), but there's still more than a bit of hitching and CTDs are still at one every 10 mins or so (much lower than last night, but then the server pop is lower atm).

It all seems to have happened for me since the Weds maintance.
  11. BadAsElite

Add me to Higby's list please RadarX m8.
I will also try to get my Outfit members who are also suffering from the same issue's as others here to post too.
Especially as they are Community Clash players aswell.

Are we getting a date on the fix had to close the platoon today again because everybody experienced lag for me it was 5000 max
  13. AdamGrantBell

Experiencing this too - tonight's fight on Ceres at Dahaka mostly became a series of short teleports for everyone involved. Can't you sack ProSieben and hire a firm not so terrible at providing this service?
  14. Kill2This

    Hi,

Tonight for me on miller it was totally absurd. (everyone teleported and flew everywhere)
Some peaks at 5800ms of delay. This is just impossible! The strange part is that not everyone encountered those lags at the same time. When it was at peak, some said everything went good for them and for the other, just like me. It was like a massive desync from my part but I checked my connection and all was perfect from my side.
This problem happened just after the last weekly update. Before that everything was "normal".

With my message here I just make sure SOE keeps searching for this inacceptable situation. It's way worth than the launch of the game. I was there too.

    Sorry for my english.
  15. zerg

Hey SOE kick ProSiebensat *** already your game is unplayable for 4 days already. You are not even taking cere of your own profit or what. What will happen when the game will be unplayable for 7 days ? I know all new players will never come back to PS2 what a shame ! :Do_O:eek:
  16. LordCreepy

Guess I'll stick to playing diablo3 for the next days till the issue gets fixed.
Simply no fun with lag spikes.
  17. redmamba

I had so much fun playing CoD Ghosts for the past month. Tried flying around in PS2 on sunday and it was like swimming through honey again. So back to CoD for another month v57
  18. Necaris Omnis

    Server: Cobalt
    Char: Necaris
    Origin: Switzerland
    Beta account

Problem: Lag, Hit Registering, Terminal Access Delay, Kill trading or sometimes kill msg 5seconds after i stop shooting and moved on.
When i came back from BF4 I noticed how much better the hot reg was but now it feels the same or even worse the BF4 and thats why i left BF4.
  19. Sunkai

    Hi all,

I had the symptoms described here, and correlated them starting with when I'd moved my wireless router. I was getting network lag spikes every few minutes, where previously I'd had no problems.

I ran an Ethernet cable to the router in order to eliminate any impact that the wireless connection might be having. I was able to play for hours without any connection issues when using the wired connection.

Although my router was reporting high wireless TX and RX rates at its location, I supposed that there was significant WLAN packet loss due to physical or electrical interference.

After relocating the router to a more open position, uncluttered by other electrical devices, normal connection stability resumed over the WLAN. The network lag spikes were eliminated.

Planetside 2 seems highly susceptible to packet loss, as other game clients and applications seemed unaffected at the time. I understand that UDP traffic is especially dense for this game, so anything that causes dropped packets will result in periodic lag spikes.

Another issue that can cause dropped packets is if your router actively curbs the transfer rate of UDP packets (e.g. if it has a DoS protection mode enabled with low thresholds). However, its quick and simple to check your WLAN for packet loss first before worrying about more sophisticated causes.

I hope this helps others to solve their network lag spike woes.

    Cheers,

    Sunkai.
