Anti-Lurker Build?

Spending so much time looking at the redeploy screen can have it's advantages. Maybe. Probably not.

I had some fun last night trying to run down an enemy cloaker (until I was dragged away by the wife to see the fox with the poorly paw at the end of the garden  )

I also see a lot of folks running around trying to find lurking enemy INFs...usually by bunny hoping around with rifles taking random potshots at menacing cockroaches.

There must be a better way than this. Now, I'm a pretty poor shot and having to use a wrist rest with my mouse has pretty much buggered what knife fighting skills I had. But I wondered if I could build an INF loadout that provides as much anti-lurker ability as possible. (In otherwords, you might be able to ROFL360NOSCOPE the enemy but I can't. :D )

Primary: Auto Scout with Grip, Silencer and x2 Scope. I think this is the most flexible gun for situations I intend to use this build in - i.e. CQB to 50-60m. Beyond that I'd probably fall back to my hilarious bad sniper skills. If my aim ever gets any better I would swap the grip for a Darklight.

Other option would be the MKV with a Darklight. It doesn't seem to shabby when assisting out to 50-60m.

Secondary: Underboss with Darklight. While I love the Commissioner I think the slightly faster fire rate will be better against close up, fast moving targets. On TR I would simply use the default pistol. Because even I have killed people with it.

The Motion Spotter is an obvious detection slot choice. It doesn't give away my position but acts as juicy bait. I'm at level four with it at the moment and am saving on each toon to max it out. There's the additional plus of it showing sprinting, cloaked INFs.

In the Cloak slot I am wondering about NAC. Okay, maybe I'm just trying to find a slot for this to go on. :D

I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand the last thing I want to do as an INF is be spamming my cloak on and off. On the other, being able to just sit and wait under Stalker could be more advantageous.

NAC would give me some protection if I run into a Heavy or MAX and need to get the hell out of dodge. The short duration would keep me from spamming it like a noob, instead relying on cover and such.

It would also free up the suit slot to carry EMP grenade bandolier. This along with the EMP Shield Implant could be used to strip everybody else of their cloaks while I retain mine. I can then either attack or evade in the confusion. Theorhetical at the moment as I don't have this particular implant on any of my characters.

Oh, does anybody else like throwing these things into a room ahead of allied MAXes?

I can't decide between AP Mines or Medits, though. Mines are useful in case of pursuit or for booby trapping points, ammo packs and Motion Spotters. At the moment I can run Regen Implant.

Thoughts? Or is my suspicion that CuteBeaver's StalkEMPer <3 loadout is the better and more sensible option correct?

Or take a three dimensional approach and pull Light Assault instead?

Are you saying like a sniper hunter? Where you get closer to your enemy instead of counter sniping?

I think the dart might be a better choice. Sure, it'll tip them off that you are looking for them. But to be honest, most people will try to get out of range or move at the wrong time when they see the sensor ring on the map.. And that is all you need. A general location if you think you can out gun them.

I think the dart is better for flushing people out. You can fire it from a distance and cover a larger area with more then one as well.

As for the NAC, most of the seasoned cloakers will tell you not to bother with it. But I've had some experience with it on the battlefield. I've seen a few guys survive my rounds when usually they'd have been dead. One extra shot or two (at range) I know isn't much, but in certain situation it is better then the extra time cloaked. I know how many rounds it should take, so I have asked how they survived my attacks and it has been this cloak. Very rarely, but it happens.

That said, I'm not sure this is the situation where it would really benefit you. In principle, in a CQC fight it might help some. Most everyone, me included, will tell you to get hunter maxed first. Even with NAC, most of the weapons rate of fire will stilll rip you to pieces. Though I can see your point. If they have a sniper rifle/pistol you might be with it. Use it like a heavy shield when you reload for example.

No, not counter-sniping rather digging enemy iNFs that are mooching around a base.

I take your point about NAC being situational at best.

Any pistol, equip dark light. Think like an infiltrator. Thats all you need.

Infiltrators are like spiders - they hide out in dark corners, behind boxes, and when possible, as high up in a room as possible. I mourn for my scout radar's effectiveness post nerf, there's no viable way to find the buggers without manual searches these days.

If you go with the stalker/pistol/darklight loadout remember to move around with your gun up, not pointed at the waist. Two shots is all you are going to get when you find your cowering Infy in a corner and having one of them hit the head is your best shot. Definitely go with the UnderBoss, the lower recoil lets the second shot really count instead of just scaring the Infy into running.

Not sure if you're hunting snipers or infiltrators (or stalkers). Snipers are easier to hunt, and you can use any class or loadout. Even without radar, just watch for their tracers, and turn your volume up for both gun sound and cloak sound. The vast majority are in their own little scope world and are easy targets when someone actually takes the time to go find them.

Run-and-gun Infiltrators, on the other hand, are a little trickier, but the easiest way is to use darts to flush out their dot; and again turn up your volume - you can use the directional audio to follow their cloak sound all the way out to render distance. Once you see their dot, and the direction of travel, circle around to flank until you see their actual shimmer (really easy on medium+ settings) then just open fire. Infiltrators are literally free certs if you spot them before they see you, given their low health and the delay they need to fire after uncloaking. Unless they are one of the few masters of your "ROFL360NOSCOPE", in which case you've just picked the wrong infiltrator to mess with. (Don't try to hunt down elusive1 for example, lol.)

Stalkers - can be very hard to find (just watch one of cutebeaver's videos). Darklight is obviously helpful. Most of the stalkers I see still prefer to use corners and such, though I myself prefer to hide right in the middle of the room (and laugh at the people shooting into all the corners trying to find me there), or just outside around a corner if applicable - since darklight goes through walls I can then know if they are using one to search - if so I move farther away before they come out. But the best way I've found of finding stalkers: If you know roughly the area they are in, just toss out an EMP grenade. That will kill their cloak instantly and make them shimmer - you'll have to look fast though because if they recover from the surprise quickly enough they can re-cloak almost right away if they don't try to move.

    Good tips. Thank you.
