*Note* This is a long post that utilizes videos and gifs to emphasize my point. First off i wasn't even able to get on during best hour of the event because of the NBE-1013 error so i was forced to watch streams of the event and listen in on my outfit's teamspeak. I got to watch joe's stream in particular.... And, I'm ashamed of my own faction. Here was an event that was in a prime position to pump some new life into the game, and we the players ruined it. Not the game itself, not higby, not even the rest of SOE. The players. This is what it was supposed to be: just another day on auraxis, with all three factions locked in combat WITH EACH OTHER. Instead, we got the Vanu Conglomerate, the worse thing I have ever seen in planetside. I thought Mattherson+ Waterson VS and NC were the bitterest of rivalries but as soon as a large group of new TR players show up we band together to make sure they never return to the game (someone should re-edit this with the NC and VS logos on their faces): and we proceded to: the TR... together... as buddies. And our alliance took pleasure in showing these new players the joys of PPA, HE, HEAT, Breaker, Bulldog and every other form of AI spam we could muster: (again, sorry i have no gif editing skills, but someone should re-edit this with the TR logo on Joffrey's face, the VS logo on Tryrion's left slap, the NC logo on his 1st right slap, and whatever you want on his 2nd right slap, the SOE logo perhaps?): I was looking forward to this. when i heard about the event this was my reaction: Because I honestly thought this event was going to be fun. Yeah the TR were going to be a big zerg, but they were going to be a skill-challenged zerg. Still, if the NC and VS fought each, the TR zerg could've been herded into some good fights. But I guess our dozens of BR 100's and platoon strength outfits were absolutely terrified of all their new BR 1's. Were we merrily smashing the TR together because we were afraid this would happen if we played like we normally do?: I could feel planetside dying as the show rolled on. But there is one thing that has been nagging me since the event. New Conglomerate, are you aware of what you just did? You were a large force of elites (from the TR's perspective) zerging the hell out of the TR and using AI spam while doing it. Who does that remind you of? Ginyu Force (because I can't say their real name due to the "Be Nice" forum rules). That's right, you became Ginyu Force during this event. You turned into the very scourge of our server. The elitist who love to rub it into the faces of newer/less skilled players how good they are. Welcome to your new shared home with Ginyu Force, my fellow freedom fighters: All in all, the community's actions last night just make me... well they just make me sad.
Well quite frankly, what did you expect would happen when a couple hundred noobs turned up? As far as i can tell, none of the streamers made any particular effort to understand how to get things done. Evidently made worse by the vast majority of thier subscribers lacking the important tools needed to counter PPA and ESF nonsense.
Did you just like, copy and paste some ******* BuzzFeed article? Because thats exactly what that looks like.
Here is my two cents. This whole event could have been handled a lot better. SOE should have publicized this more so more people would have known about it, and had people playing all the factions. I want to say that us players should have been a lot more supportive, but I think a lot of people didn't even know it was happening. I know I've played when it seemed like all my enemies were very low battle rank, and I still farmed them. If you didn't know about the stream, then you might just have assumed it was an outfit from a different faction or server that rolled New TR toons for the night. I know some people probably mentioned it in chat, but I don't have time to watch chat while in a fight. Hopefully some of these new players will remember the size and scope of the fights and continue to play. That's about the best we can hope for now.
And another thread about this... Cool. For the record, I had no idea there even was some kind of event anyways.
