[Suggestion] A reason why new players don't stay?

They probably make a character on Connery server, experience its dead population Planetside gaming, and leave forever.

I hate that Connery is far and away the best server for me now, connection wise. I can feel the difference on Emerald, but it might still be worth it over Connery's pop issues.

As a new player the two biggest reasons me and my friends have been struggling to stay engaged are:
    - Lack of earnt cosmetics in game/no non-time limited battlepasses
    - The default soldier models are really bad and put us off so we can't enjoy the game
    - No third person so can't enjoy the characters (other games that have third person just make you only render what you see in first person to avoid wall leaning)
    - It's very hard to know where we should be on the map and the join combat button puts us in empty places
    - No climbing system to get over small obstacles

The only reason I'm stilly playing is because I unlock the Nanite System Operatives and they're visually appealing to me. If it weren't for those I would have quite a few days ago and the NSO stuff was super annoying to unlock.

They definitely need to merge the servers if they want to retain some pop and also make the game look better for any new players if they exist that check the game out. They should also give new accounts a free xp and nanite gain bonus, either by default or through boosts. I'd give them a double or quad xp boost until they reach asp, even give them faster nanite gain. Genuine new players get very few kills, and they can't earn much xp from support, there's even an anti stapad feature that forces a cooldown if you earn too much support xp from the same source. That's why they definitely need a big xp boost. Even for vets creating alt accounts, let's say because sever merges aren't happening so they must restart from scratch elsewhere, the grind is daunting. Boosts would definitely help ease things up a little.

I would also add major xp and nanite boosts for the underpop faction, continent wide and in the hex.

Planetside 2's grind and cert economy is stuck in 2012 monetization thinking.

The implant system is stuck in a system that encourages spending DBG on implant packs instead of actually using the implants themselves.

I have only read the OP, I play on the Emerald server, with that said...

Despite being over a 10 year old game, maybe the new players can't run it smoothly enough to have a competitive advantage. Search for - Your Frame Rate Determines Your Fire Rate on Youtube.
Not knowing about clientside hit detection and how its being used against them, especially with the infiltrator class.
The tutorial does not adequately prepare you. You have to learn stuff along the way, and out of game. The codex is not enough.
Dull *** cortium mining first to upgrade your stuff first is better than getting into fights, first and upgrading along the way. If they are a REALLY bad player, Cortium mining might be better for their personal progression than actually playing the game like the rest of us.
Maybe a new player with a background with lobby based shooters like CoD or something can't handle that they might be faced against players that already have tons of hours into the game, have all the suit, tool, implants, and other gear acquired, and all upgraded already.
    Playing solo sucks
A minor point but not being able to identify all enemies without spotting them. You should be able to identify an enemy player by the color of them alone. If a TR player, is wearing the recent Ice Dragon camo (which is blue and black), or the more devious pink camo, they are going to get confused.
    Friendly fire enabled, maybe?
Wondering why someone doesn't die when they mag dump someone cause they don't know that, on top of a gun's recoils, their is bloom so they need to learn to burst to keep a tight spread.
Too many frustrating death's that are out of the player's control.
Completing some directives are unreasonably long, or miserable
  7. Effect

It's really not that complex, the game has so much low effort cheese that even objectively bad players can easily farm new players.

I highlighted this years go. It's silly that you can run up hills at full pelt with your weapon fully active - until you reach a certain incline, then it's like hitting a wall.

IMO climbing hills should have a more gradual transition and allow more units to climb steeper hills, albeit with a severe speed penalty and the inability to use your weapon. Huge areas of the map (particularly Hossin) are out of bounds to all infantry except LAs - which is silly.

The only things off limits to all but LA should be vertical (or near vertical) inclines. All infantry should be able to climb steep hills.

Hi friends, I'm iMuse13 from the Terran Republic on Emerald. From my experience, I've been playing since early 2013. And I must say that the game has changed A LOT.
I remember that before it was much more fun, better effects and the bases were perfect, the battles were more exciting, now everything is more difficult and complex. You die extremely fast, the battles sometimes last a few minutes, etc.
Personally, I have invited many friends to play, but after a few minutes of entering they get bored and uninstall the game. (They find it very difficult and complex).
It's hard to see how the game has changed and see your old friends abandon it. (My outfit was more than 30 people playing every night, now we are only 2).
A hug to everyone and see you in combat. ;)

    Let's fix it
    • Aircraft should fly like earthly aircraft do. Galaxies are like Osprey.. that's cool. Other fighters fly like fighters, no more hovering deaths from above from them.
    • Infils need to INFIL, not both infil and SNIPER. Have cloak/sniper be a swapped ability. Can't equip rifle with cloak ability and can't cloak with sniper ability. Problem solved. This is one of the main reasons the gun cam exists. Gun cam should only be for sniper kills if it is to exist at all.
    • Get rid of all of these alerts.. they are .. just .. stop.
    • Player bases.. OUT OF CONTROL They do too much. They should be more like forts, not FOB's with cooks. Should not be able to spawn tanks or fighters only Players, Sundies, Valks..that's it.
    • The absolute mess that is the armory needs to be cleaned up. So many guns are exactly the same. Same DPS graph, same fire rate, just different look and sound. I have to process this more since there is so much nasty here. First thought was more options for different types of ammunition. IRL, I have FMJ ammo and hollow points, different calibers etc..There should be more of that going on to make swapping weapons for specific scenarios even more of a thing. The shoulder fired weapons are more fun in this way.
Just a few thoughts from an old guy.

I'm pretty much on the same page as others, but I'm writing about a time when I started playing the game near 2019 and didn't settle in for almost 2~3 years.
At first I was logging in after an interval of more than 3 months. So I had forgotten the feeling and had to recreate my character each time. So it was even more difficult to get it right.
Once I started logging in with the same character, certs became a problem.
Next to that, A2G keeps knocking me down. At first I tried to practice what the information site said. But it was extremely hard and long until I bought an anti-air launcher and a sky guard. And when I finally bought the anti-air launcher, I tried to beat the enemy ESF alone, but I couldn't and kept getting beaten more than 10 times and quit for quite a long time.
After that, it was how to win. I proceeded to specialize in support, which even a beginner can contribute to his allies, as recommended by an information site. However, it was almost impossible to win a firefight with that, so I used Lightning and was able to contribute to the victory, and after I understood how to win a little, I started to get more established.
After the level of retention increased, I started to log in to the server. I started logging in steadily and reached Battle rank 100, and from that point on, I was doing mostly well because I had paid my bills and gained some knowledge.
After that, when I suddenly quit, I stopped logging in because there were too many cheaters.
Or I got tired of people.

I think the biggest reason why I didn't stick around was that I was struggling desperately in a situation where A2G was running rampant, which I couldn't counter without the help of my allies, and I couldn't beat them even more because the other allies had given up.I had been struggling with the enemy Air for at least six months.I can always remember the feeling of exhaustion at that time.
