[Suggestion] A reason why new players don't stay?

Even with 1000% XP Gain (Quad XP Weekend + People 5% Squad XP Boosting too) from Double Slot 50% Boosting and Membership on my NSO, it still takes a while to get what I want.

It must be very difficult for the new players who feel it's a pay-to-win game.

Those that like the game and are dedicated, even without membership they unlock what they want but seeing that Pocket Flash requires Outfit Loyalty 4 and C4s require a lot of certs, other things as well, I can see why people don't stay.

When I first played the game, I was using the Scythe all the time before Anti-Aircraft launchers.
I was getting 90+ kills in no time. I think I Auraxed Dual Photon Pods and PPA in less than 1 week easy.

I had no issue with certs when I started doing other things so the grind effect wasn't there.

I think, 2x XP should be the default for All players.

Perhaps Membership should be 750 DBG per month and 10 free random implants with 50% XP Boost.

If you want to improve new player retention, you make is so your sniper class can't cloak with sniper rifles and scouts.

Nothing is more infuriating than dying repeatedly to a cloaked sniper that doesn't even render on your screen to decloak.

Yeah, letting Infils use anything other than pistols and knives was a mistake. Even the original PlanetSide got that right.

All the new people in my mentor squads eventually quit because they die ultra fast or encounter a veteran player and get farmed. They quit and never come back.

The reason new players don't stay is IMO because the game is infinitely harder for new players compared to how it was at launch.

You have vets with 10 years experience playing the game that are kitted out to the max and know every nuance and exploit.

Pretty much every new feature added to the game over the past several years are really only accessible to vets/outfits which has further widened the gulf between veteran players and lone newbies - yet there have been precious few quality of life improvements designed to help new players.

IMO - the reason so many players (especially newer players) run infil now is because it's the only way to stay alive for more than a couple of seconds. It's a symptom, rather than a cause.

That's is a lie. This excuse has been said every single year of PS2's life about why so many use and abuse the Infiltrator class.

It's not an excuse or a lie - it's an opinion (hence why I stated "IMO"). I think it's pretty logical.

Dying the second you walk out of the spawn room over and over isn't fun - and going incognito by running infil is an easy way to stay alive for a short while at least - is it any wonder people are choosing this option more and more.

Of course you are free to disagree with me.....that's your prerogative.

In what bases these days are you dying seconds after you walk out of the spawn room?.

This is an argument that was valid over a decade ago when lots of the base designs were simply terrible and vehicle splash was huge.
  9. BlackFox

He is not wrong though - usually it happens because a bunch of infiltrators going straight to spawn camp the moment they arrive at the base before it even becomes an capture objective

I just reinstalled the game and thought maybe I give it a try - was reminded pretty fast why I quit in the first place and that is the disgusting amount of cloakers running around
  10. BattleWarriorZ5

It's amazing how seemly blind the PS2 Devs are to this problem and cycle no matter if they are SOE, DBG, RPG, and now Toadman.

FPS players don't like dying to snipers they can't even see.

    1. the game is a grind. you earn very little certs just killing 10 people

    2. once you get 1k certs after killing ppl for weeks you buy a gun, that gun happens to be absolute dogwater.

    3. cert lines in this game cost way too much to get up to the meta of veterans.

    4. you go in a fight - kill 1-2 people - die - 13 second respawn - very little to no cert gain and stuck with boring weapons for weeks

    5. you cant spawn at actual fights occuring on the map just because its a 1% pop difference and have to vehicle deploy, but you cant, because some infil hacked the terminal, except it isnt actually hacked, its just ***** bugged that hasnt been fixed yet.

    6. you manage to pull a vehicle, then a air to ground shidder comes out of no where followed up by a sweaty magrider main killing in the back lines

    7. the "missions" in this game are one dimensional and generally not fun to do at all. it all feels like a JOB then actual fun

i have never done a mission in this game the entire time they even released it, why? because i can get quadruple the amount of certs just by going to oshur and mining cortium, which i did on the 4xp event, i gained over 5k certs within 2 hours of just driving around and going back and forth mining cortium.

    8. sweaty tryhards who dont care who you are. there is always that air to ground shidder on off hours ruining the fights

remove the VTOL from ESF's already.

    9. sweaty tryhard infantry players.

    10. the terrible meta of this game which is absolutely boring. Medic spam inside a room with a bunch of heavys and engineers.

    11. congrats you placed a sundy down at a spot you worked to get too, only to be met by some dumb c4 fairy light assault who will do anything and everything just to kill your sundy, no matter how many times he has to respawn, or die, he will keep on trying until he gets it.

remove c4 from light assaults already.

    12. latencyside. no one wants to run around corners and die and claim wallhacks, but i see this in chat EVERYDAY. why? because of all the EU pilgrims and south american migrants who come to north america and abuse the lag.

    13. game is so dead that the current way to even level up is even more of a grind then it is. whos gonna aurax a weapon with 1160kills in a dead game? only the veterans who been playing for awhile and know to cheese it by going all around the map kiling phlanx turrets.

in no way shape or form, no matter how much you try to make the claim, infils dont scare away new players. infact, i see many new players play infils specifically because of all the tryhard infantry players who pop shield zig zag like their in the apocolypto movie running away from the arrows and spears being thrown at them and have handicap healing pens with them and 100 round clips.

until these are all fixed, only then will new players stay, and thats not even all of the reasons why new players stay, those are just the main ones.

thats why a game system other the adad pinpoint aimbot headshot c4 your sundy is important in this game. its dull, shallow, toxic, repetitive, competitive and this game deserve better. this game has the potential for better, new horizons and gameplay, while the competitive side will remain and have it place. this game has a lot of place. thats what the construction did at the begining. it provided that other thing to do and protecting it was always involved shooting stuff. it was fun and rewarding when a sundy parked in your base and it being a safe heaven. its all destroyed now. its all fragile and vulnerable. the sundy update dont really cut it and dont provide the "logistic side of things, the different gameplay". the game is dead they killed every fun and unique aspect of it other than the one shot competitiveness

What is there to keep players here? When I started playing on Werner (Russian server), there weren’t so many opportunities to spam AOE damage. The spawn point was not so accessible. There were better and more beautiful effects which, thanks to that night, were simply wonderful. There were no such battles that dissolved in half a minute. Even if there was a protracted battle, it was in one area and smoothly moved to the next hex with enemy resistance, not that all the enemies had left. There were no alarms that occurred every hour. I don’t know how it was at the Euro, but in Russia there was an alarm for the closure of the continent once a week, and because of this, alarm was very much appreciated. Especially because you could get an appearance item as a reward. Now everything is so casual that the graphics have become as faded as possible, alarm has no real value, there is no logistics, battles on bridges and between hexes do not occur, the damage has become so much that a lot of equipment is not used due to low DPS, adding a death camera killed the game of a sniper, who had to be found earlier, due to limited rebirth, players used common transport more often, there were a minimum of redeployments, there were not so many respawn points per hex, there were more pleasant gaming bases (the canyon on Indar or also a base on the hill). I'm surprised how old players like everything that's going on now.

Now there are no interesting cards. Oshur should not exist in this form. Outposts for construction should be removed or made into one of the three points of the game base. The new capture modes are just the bottom and no one plays there. There is no resistance to the zerg and they simply fly by, capturing the line of hexes. A bastion of cancer that no one wants to fight against and just press the U button. The Anti-Vehicle MANA Turret is not used at all due to a bunch of new weapons for vehicles and the appearance of anti-tank rifles. Esamir is killed by his own "explosion". All the maps are simply not interesting due to the fact that the battles are in the same places, which is also likely to get boring for beginners.

And there were no stupid OS and ANVIL(Allowing equipment to spam where it shouldn’t be).

The game has really become COD oriented.

    1. The game has degraded to spawn camping and numbers. He who runs with the largest population wins. The veterans exploit this in mass to pad there kill/death ratios at the cost of others enjoyment for the sheer pleasure of farming. Throw in orbital strikes and the inability to defend oneself when vehicles are in mass as a soloist. You are in for toxic gameplay of taunts, harassment and bullying behavior to new players.

    2. They do nothing to address obvious cheaters. I am talking of flying maxes, enemies killing me in the spawn room, the real obvious stuff and no moderators to do anything even when you send video evidence.

    3. No real developments that generate any excitement. Even a Assault buggy would be something, but a lackluster roadmap will not generate interest.
  15. Baneblade

The main issue I see is that there isn't a lot of ways to test out different play styles effectively, you sink certs into one you want to try, then it turns out not to be your jam, now you gotta spend the nest three weeks grinding certs for another maybe.

Let us refund certs on demand, including any shop items purchased with certs. There is no downside, there's no way to abuse it, and it keeps everyone playing.

Put a BR cap on it if you have to, say BR 50. I mean, by the time you get to 50, you probably already know what you want out of your certs and don't need to move them as much.
  16. BlackFox

Snipers not so much, not that you could touch them with automatic rifles anyways at sniping distances - constantly getting shot in the face from 5 meters away from the front because an invisible enemy already pre-aimed at your head is the worst. Or engangaing an enemy only to find out he has three invisible friends sitting in the corners. It's the damn CQC ones that ruin infantry fights completely.
That there's usually half an army of them running around at all times also really doesn't add to the gameplay
  17. Pallid

I always thought the Cert refund at BR15 was too early and not very useful.
e.g. three refunds are given, one at BR15, one at BR30 and one at BR50. That might help beginners more.

Or...instead of refunding at BR15, make all equipment and Abilities available like VR Training until BR15... Is that overdo? ha ha:p
  18. MonnyMoony

Yep - a cert refund system would be good. You grind for ages to get 1000 certs, then drop it on a gun that turns out to be garbage or get's nerfed. Then you have to grind for another 1000 certs.

Even 50% refund would go a long way to helping newbies correct poor weapon/attachment choices.
  19. MonnyMoony

And most of the developments there have been (colossus, carriers, orbital strikes, NS faction, implants, ASP etc) are all focussed on vets - and only serve to widen the gulf between vets and newbies.
  20. Dessx

The game is too grindy for new players. I will admit some of the starter weapons do happen to be some of the best in the game which is good, but there is still a very large play to win aspect of the game. That obviously is fine, but it takes soooooooooo long to get certz and experience. New players probably stop bothering after they realise how expensive everything is.

Also, VS is such an unfun faction to play against. There is a reason it has an overpop on most servers and TR and NC always choose to fight eachother.
