A question about Shields

    Hi Peeps,

    I should have asked this question a long time ago, but I've been too busy enjoying the game;

What is the reasoning with the different types of Shields in this game. There appear to be two types.

    a) Shields you can shoot through,
    b) Shields you cannot shoot through.

Typically, Shields at Spawn Rooms and some buildings that may be attached to Spawn Rooms, via teleporters, allow you to shoot through them.

Then Towers, Amp Stations, Biolabs & Tech Plants have (some) shields that do not allow you to shoot through.

    Why is that?

Why are we allowed to shoot through shields at all?

Is shooting through a Shield considered to be an "exploit?"

I'm interested to know because, for the first time ever the other evening, I was accused of exploiting this "feature" by killing an enemy soldier from behind a Spawn Room shield.

    cheers

No real reason was given why they did this. Not so long ago you could shoot through all shields. I think they are playing with the idea of making them unable to shoot through.

I'm all about this change. I agree; it's silly we should be able to shoot through them. It reinforces the spawn room camper play style. Nobody ever uses them as leverage for a counter attack despite ppl saying that's what they are for. A coordinated push out of a spawn room isn't predicated on the ability to shoot through the shield.

No it's not an exploit; that's how they work. Someone was just butt hurt you smoked them with zero risk. I guess they failed to realize they were the moron granting LoS to people behind said shields.

    Thanks for your input :)

I gather that, with the lack of replies to this question, that no one really cares about being able to shoot through some shields. I'm split on the matter, personally... On the one hand, I agree that it sounds a bit unfair that we can, but then again, when I'm locked down in a spawn room by a host of armour and air, with just the odd spattering of infantry, if a guy wants to loiter as you say, in line of sight then he is fair game for a headshot.

Lets start off with the "exploit" shooting through shields can be an exploit depending on the shield type and its intended purpose. If you are in a prowler 300m+ or so away from an enemy base spawnroom shooting through shields that havent rendered because of distance? exploit
If you are in a spawn room shooting out at stupid campers, not an exploit.

Most shields that allow fire through them are there for the purpose of allowing defenders the chance to break out of the spawn, instead of having a scatmax sitting 0.009mm away from a shield waiting for the slightest texture to poke through the shield to instagib you, he now has to sit back out of the immediate fire arc allowing 4 or 5 people to walk out before he instagibs them all! ^_^

    So.
Spawn shields. You can shoot out, can't shoot in.
Vehicle Shields. No shooting, only allied vehicles, allied and enemy infantry.
Base Shields. No shooting, only allies can move through. (This is why defenders love it when you repair the gens at an amp station when they're already inside. They can see you coming, and shoot you as soon as you step through the shields, and don't have to worry about finding cover.)
SCU Shields. Only allies can move through, shooting is uninhibited.
