i have had this idea in my head for awhile now there is nothing harder then guessing how far away your target is and just randomly firing till you guess right is not smart you will be found. so i thought that adding a distance meter the the sniper scopes as a default thing would be great you still have to guess but you will at least know how far away you are for an area it would make being an infiltrator much easier and have less of a chance getting caught by guess firing.
Do as we did back in old battlefield 2. Place waypoints on the map and then look at the distance and then choose the right notch for the drop. We don't need to get easier. Back in the wookie sniper mod for BF2. 1622 meter headshot.
just saying it would be helpful i am not saying add a thing that shows youwere to shoot for a longer ranged headshot that may be a tad unfair for instance i could be around 200m away from something and i spot a guy say another 50 or more meters away how am i going to know he that much farther away?
Almost everything in this game has a distance marker on it that's visible from about 300 meters away. The capture points, vehicle terminals, infantry terminals, ammo towers and aircraft platforms all have distances marked from your position, Being that they are not all in the same spot you can use the distance between two or more of them and figure the distance from that. Our high powered rifles are all zeroed in from 1m to 200m unsuppressed and each milldot is an average of +50m or so depending on scope, so it shouldn't be to hard to figure out using the in game marked distances. using your personal waypoint works really well too, I used it for a long time until I found the marked items.
tis a suggestion also on that note i normally use a x12 zoom scope if you any more suggestions id be glade to hear them
I was going to say, isn't this what mil-dots are for. In some respects I'm also not sure distance really matters that much because you can't zero your scopes to a certain range. I thought I was better off relating height of player in mil-dots to number of mil-dots I had to aim above the target to account for bullet drop. Just ignore distance from the equation. Of course it's not always easy to used mil-dots because because people don't often stand still long enough, but then that's because they don't want to get sniped.
if your pointing out that i put he instead of hes i am well aware i cant type lol also cfnz distance is a key to knowing how high you need to aim above the head of the guy your shooting at other wise if your like me its really just guessing till you hit him and by that time hes either moved or you've been shot because of random guess firing.
Yes, that's why I'm asking can't you use mil-dots to estimate the distance, isn't that what they are for? Further to that though, if you're using the height of the target in mil-dots to estimate distance in order to establish how far above the target to aim, again in mil-dots, can't you just skip the distance from the equation and use the height of the target in mil-dots to estimate the number of mil-dots above the target to aim?
ok this is what i know so far please feel free to add input so aimg at the head directly will kill in 200m anything more then that i need the multi dots the thing i dont know is how far each multi dot goes does each multi dot go another 50m or more?
Mil-dots are used not for judging distance but for judging bullet drop for a known distance. The distance can be found vaguely based on the apparent size of the target compared to its known actual size. It can be more accurately found using a range finder.
You can use mil-dots to find the distance of the target with a mathematical equation. Height of the Target * 1000 / Height in Mils But Planetside 2 isn't the kind of game where you really have the time or need to use that, you just learn how high to aim through experience.
Yeah, that is the "The distance can be found vaguely based on the apparent size of the target compared to its known actual size", where the apparent size can be measured however you like (including using the mil-dots).
Sorry TheHuntsman, I'm not keen on this idea as I think it would make sniping a bit too easy. I wouldn't worry too much if you're having trouble judging distances, this will definitely come with experience as Scan says. I find it easier to judge the bullet drop by the size of the target's head in relation to the mil dots of my scope rather than guess a concrete distance as such. HTH
This could be something implemented with implants if they ever decide to bring them back. Implants were in the beta but not sure if they had an implant that did specifically that.
Experience usually covers this, learn your rifle. And using your own waypoint to guage distance. I've found that once I'm in place, put down a waypoint where the enemy are, now I know how far away. I also know that every 100m distance, is approx 1/2 mill dot drop on my 10x scoped LA80. Aim that spot just under the top edge of the enemy helmet, and you should be pretty much on for +/- 25m from your measurement. Of course different scopes on different rifles will give different results, thats where you need to take the time to learn your rifle.
actually i went to the vr training area and started figuring you "bullet drop" so to speak from what i got from it each multi dot adds 50m or so as in if i am 250m away from someone using the first multi dot will headshot him mind you i only got to about 250m any further and i couldnt see the guy since there was hills and trees getting in my line of sight. mind you i use the parralax with 12 zoom scope. now all i need is to work on my aim lol
That's what I told you wasn't it? Almost everything in this game has a distance marker on it that's visible from about 300 meters away. Double post.
I've been using a makeshift distance estimator when I play infiltrator lately: 1)Enlarge your minimap with H 2)Press alt 3)With your mouse on the HUD, right click to set a waypoint on the minimap 4)Press alt again to get rid of the HUD mouse icon 5) Looking at the distance, approximate bullet drop
