A CALL TO ACTION (for rich people especially)

So we all know the game is underfunded and poorly run.

DBG doesn't really have any plans or interest in Planetside 2.

Its time for the COMMUNITY TO UNITE!!!!!

Who would be willing to pitch in funds to PURCHASE Planetside 2, and restore it on the path to GLORY!...?

If anyone of us is or knows a millionaire that doesn't mind buying Planetside 2 off daybreak, hiring a bigger dev team, properly funding the game and marketing it in order for the game to grow and reach it's full potential....that'd be great

For the rest of us, idk how many people would support this idea, maybe start a gofundme campaign for rescuing Planetside 2 or even starting Planetside 3:D

Ik this isn't disneyland and if anyone important was interested in the game, they might've saved it years ago but hey,I'm bored so yeah, a call to action guys ;)

Someone with that kind of money would be better off starting from scratch.

This franchise isn't worth much. Most players haven't even heard of planetside.

This infrastructure isn't worth much. It's like buying a passed around old jeep that's been kept alive with duct tape and bailing wire.

I did my part when I bought lifetime access and this is the only game of theirs I play, what you're asking for is never going to happen.
If any development team wants to revitalise Planetside they need to get Planetside 1 up and running, not Planetside 2. PSforever has done excellent work but it isn't enough unfortunately.

The problem is that you get similar problems as we have now. Imagine the richest few players getting a say in what will and will not be worked on. You might see too much focus on infantry fights, singular skill combat ("no shotguns and snipers are allowed to be effective, only accurate headshot weapons are allowed to be effective. Skills controlling COF and recoil will barely matter anymore"). You could also see aircraft being either buffed to ridiculous proportions or nerfed into oblivion, and the same for ground vehicles.

Or you could give the players a say in it, and we get Brexit level of "oh ****". Buffing the Magrider for no reason even though it is clearly performing very well? Done! Nerfing the Infiltrator because his stealth broke instead of fixing stealth? Finished before you know it! Making PMB's almost impenetrable murder-fortresses instead of making it easier and faster to build? Done and done! This would also inevitably mean that some of the richest people that keep it afloat get shafted at some point and might kill the game by removing their support.

    nope!
i was a long time subber, bought tons of skins, bought boosters, anniversary packs, even some weapons,
and this is across all 3 factions!
i spent thousands of £ on this game,
and then the max patch happened and i swore not to spend another penny until they fix their mistake,
and i've kept true to that.

i would certainly like to go back to pouring money into this game, but its just mistake after mistake after mistake,
and i feel like i'm funding them to ruin my favourite game!
so as long as they keep making mistakes and not fixing them i can't give them money.

Even if I hit the lottery I wouldn't buy Planetside 2.

I'd buy the rights for M.A.G. or Dust 514 instead. :)

Dust 514 was my favorite game of all time. And the barbershop thread lol. Original bastard here lol even was the list of original bastards. Flaylock was amazing lol

Why massively overpay for what is essentially a defunct BRANDING trademark when we can just wait it out and eventually watch from the sidelines as the private Server electric boogaloo happens completely on its own? ...even City of Heroes, a game almost ALL of us had assumed was long dead and lost to the ages, ended up having a secret server all these years and that damn game expired under a MUCH more venomous and toxic Anti-Consumer Publisher than this Franchise is currently under.

If CoH and SWG and quite a few other games I could mention all had just enough pieces of source code "Magically" appear out of the ether from what is most likely disgruntled former systems engineers... then I have no doubt that this game is already being archived for similar "legacy" reconstitution and preservation.

As for WHY we can justify this?.... simply Watch: /watch?v=tUAX0gnZ3Nw <-- to understand it which IMO is REQUIRED watching at this point for any person who thinks they know enough about the industry to make any purchases at all in the current Economic era we're in

Ummmm... that REALLY depends, especially if you look at the current state of Ashes of Creation which is mostly comprised of the former SOE devs attempting to rebuild Everquest Next only to realize that they were never actually "gifted" and creative enough to pull off the sort of engine and world tech needed in only a few years time which is why it's currently nothing but VaporWare with a Battle-Royal Arena addon (much like StarCitizen). The kind of talent that's capable of building all this from scratch and doing it in an Optimized way, is extremely extremely rare when it come to fully functional Persistent world MMORPG infrastructure. The only one I can think of who's pulled it off in recent years is Andrew Meggs of city-state and that's only because he had a LOT of prior experience with extremely ambitious games like Skyrim, VampireBloodlines, and WarhammerOnline.

I personally think the devs in this game do a pretty good job with what they have to work with. I've spent more on this game than any other, and one of the most frustrating things was knowing the majority of that money went towards H1Z1 and PS:A. That problem simply wouldn't exist with private owners. The single biggest problem this game has is a lack of funding.

I can't wait for Camelot Unchained (City State Games).

Mark Jacobs seems to have learned many lessons from his Dark Ages of Camelot and Warhammer Online experience. His team looks good and fun.

He has stuck to his promises even though it makes people annoyed and impatient.

    It's a huge undertaking.

If this wasn't a sure fire sign of a Private Owner pulling strings somewhere along the line...

..then I dunno what to call this whole thing in America that comprises 9/10ths of the law. ...Unless you're imagining they'd somehow manage to end up with a 100% uninvolved Philanthropist who had no intentions of leveraging ANY of the studios' assets for any personal interests or gains. If that's what you're expecting then honestly you'd have more luck in a Communist utopia than in our so called free market republic

I think the best course is to sell the IP to a bigger and more reliable company and have them remake PS universe from the ground up. There's not much lore to warrant a continuation to Planetside 3, and the OG game and even this one is fairly aged that a complete restart would be justifiable..

I'm fairly confident this could work as this game was truly ahead of it's time, a big reason why it failed to hold on to it's players as everyone was still playing on potato PCs and can't really run the game to it's full potential.

But that is no longer the case, times have caught up and there's a great potential for this game especially that this is still the only real MMO FPS in the market.

All things considered things are going well for PS2.. Except it's development has already stalled long ago, it's got no legs and basically just arms for movement so updates are a crawl at best.

I feel that after releasing the next big update they should stop and start hinting at the possibility of PS3 and generate some interest on the future. idk, i've been up too long now I feel I'm not making sense anymore. lol
  13. adamts01

PS2 has developers that bend over backwards for their product, but their parent company simply never gave two ***** about this game. It like how Harley Davidson ran Buell in to the dirt. If someone did buy the Planetside franchise, it would be to build Planetside, not H1Z1. And yeah, if they pulled off a great game, they should rightfully be doing lines off hookers on a yaht.

Whether a great product is the result of greed or love of their product is irrelevant. The end result is either a good product that people will dump money in to, or a good product because they believe in their creation. On the consumer's end there isn't much difference.

Even if we pour a bunch of money into this game, it's still a For Profit business. Depending on their internal business model of money management, where their profits go determines a few things. Not all companies use all 100% of their profits to continually improve a product. Some companies stick to a specific budget regardless of how much money its product makes.

Whenever someone buys a product, we ask ourselves, is it worth it for the price I'm about to pay? Ask yourself, would you be willing to put money into funding this game? Would you be willing to purchase this company to fund this game? You said it yourself, it's underfunded and poorly run. So from that basis, would you really want to invest your hard-earned money into it?

I've put my fair share of money into this game whether it be through membership or Daybreak Cash purchases. Despite the fact I love this game very much, and is my favourite game, I have been here since near beta, and I can safely say I wouldn't invest any more of my money into this game. I have done all that I can with what little money I had to spare. You may be willing to throw away your money, but right now, I am not.
  15. adamts01

Profit historically produces the best results, at least as long as there's competition. Some games are built to rake in money quickly and then burn out. But an investment in a franchise means they'll need to rely on a good product to profit in the long run.

Greed is arguably the most powerful motivator in all life as we know it. Plants grow straight towards sunlight, animals expend as little energy as possible when hunting, PS2 players strive for more certs per hour, and businesses build better and cheaper products to attract more buyers.

The only problem with PS2 is that it's always been a sideshow in DBG's eyes, never the main attraction.

bigger more reliable company? which one would that be?

EA, Activition, bethesda, Ubisoft .. big companies, yes ... but reliable? ..... no ... ... you can rely on them milking us out and leave a product far FAR FAAAAAAAAAR worse than PS2 ....

technology may have cought on but the thing is the trend were MMO´s were popular is over ..
a number of companies tried to get on the WoW train getting a piece of that pie but failed .. the same thing happened
with battle royal games were only less than a handfull were truly succesful .. (yea i don´t think PS:A will get much attention, especialy not being F2P so good luck competing with COD, fortnite and PUBG)

how would DBG make PS3 ? SOE is gone ... DBG itself is a small company with likely little budget and no other sources of funding .. that´s why they opt in for PS:A which is less ambitious than planetside 2 .. ..

It may be a good idea just to write/email all the 'billionaires' you can think of.(Google a list). Tell them about the game and then pray to whatever God is your preference.
Seriously, when youv'e got that much dosh your always open to ideas on how to spend it.
    Worth a chance.
I'd go for the ones with a sense of humour, adventure and of course a liking of video games. Richard Branson comes to mind. Markus Persson is another.
Most of all they would have to be up for taking a risk. Don't worry about that...they always do.
