Lore: How does NC have more advanced weaponry than TR?

Layman-speak: Lots and lots of energy, speed, and air resistance/air compression/friction.
  2. Morro

TR probably go with what's easier to mass produce.

I thought it was something along the lines of the NC raided weapon testing facilities and took a bunch of guns that were not yet given the go ahead for the TR.

You know like plenty of weapons are created but some are just never used.
  4. Sebyos

TR afraid EMPs would **** em up !
  5. Antivide

TR weapons are better anyways. Load of freaking good "Gauss tech" does when they both shoot slower and are less accurate while moving.

Really it depends on the cost and the logistics of it all. They might not have switched over due to not wanting to spend the money, not having the tools in place to spread the new gear around, not having the places to manufacture the guns or the ammo or the desire to retrain their troops on a new gun. By retrain I mean actually train since their guns are all but idiot proofed, which is a fairly desirable quality in a gun.

    from http://www.planetside2.com/news/oct14OriginCh1Pt3:
"Walsh watched helplessly as Privates Ken Edmund, Jr. and Adira Sullivan, both doing their best to hold Lavastorm’s south ridge, fell dead to the ground, Terran Republic bullets penetrating their chest armor then exploding inside them"

The TR is focused on getting as many bullets as possible into a target because their bullets explode. Using a NC gauss rifle would just break the TR's bullets.

NC are focused on bullet propulsion. TR is focused on fire rate. Neither are more/less advanced. They are different technologies.

The military loves reliability. TR probably has the most tried and true guns in the game.
What the game doesn't show is the maintenance and power source of all the guns, which would be reaslitic but an absolute PITA to have in a game. A TR gun would probably jam every 4 mags, and for balance, a Gauss rifle would probably lose accuracy over its life while requiring a separate power source. VS weapons would probably have to be discarded every few batteries, and may have problems with adverse weather while causing cancer (probably curable in these times) and other diseases to their users.

None of this is fun. No one would fight on Indar because of all the problems it would cause to the weapons.

Because the TR is ran by a bunch of fat conservatives. Go ahead and look at the situation with US Army and Marines weapons. The M16 and M4 both suffer failures from carbon buildup and can jam without warning in any dusty situation. Soldiers have and will continue to die thanks to these failures. For the cost of each of these rifles bought, the US military could instead purchase 416 upper receivers from HK and retrofit their entire arsenal, but they don't because the US military is currently gargling Colt's balls. If the TR armed forces are run with similar favoritism, it makes sense they would suffer from the same problems.

    Um what

As some of you know accelerating bullets using GAUSS weapons needs much energy. And even if you can accelerate them to any velocity wished, you'll propably limit yourself to a certain bullet speed. So you can decide if you want a gun shooting 1 very fast bullet but needs a new battery after every shot or a gun that shoots 30 bullets with the same battery but only having the speed of "normal" shot bullets.
So if the Gauss weapons shoot bullets at a similar speed as normal weapons do due to energy issues there is no need to actually use them.
Of course they would still have a few advantages but since they also have disadvantages it's not enough that the TR changes their whole weapon industry.

    That's at least my theory.

I find it weird that we don't need batteries
  14. Achmed20

probably included in every single bullet.

The TR probably didn't want them because their general staff/weapons evaluation people prefer rate of fire and moderate accuracy over increased damage but increased recoil and decreased control. There are always new technologies that take a while to get introduced into the military because the Powers That Be don't like them. Like, say, airplanes.

Your point may explain a bit about NC weapons, though...they're still a bit experimental so that might explain the high COFs we get. (I'm generally an RPer in MMOs, so I look for lore stuff like this. Even here.)
  17. Chiss

TR dont use it because it has too much recoil.

NC weapons were developed in secret by the corporations and their allies since they first decided to over throw the legitimate government, they probably were funneling resources and man power from their "civilian" projects to military. They could also have had access to the TR R&D designs and projects at the time and kept telling the TR that the projects were moving forward slowly or were failures. By the time the TR caught on it was to late. Same way that the Vanu were capable of jumping years ahead tech wise in a very short period.
    Kept it on the Q.T.
  19. CloverHead

Simple: Because they don't need the more advanced technology. While cost does indeed play a role, and the general mindset and culture also has a hand, they flat out have no need to advance to Gauss technology. When the wormhole opens up, the TR could send billions of troop carriers. They can just drown the NC and VS in bodies. It'd be a stupid tactic, to be sure, but it's entirely possible given the TR's MOREBULLETSMOREMEN style thinking.

A regular gas driven rifle kills just as well (if not better, according to forum whiners) as a gauss weapon. When you can field twice as man gas driven rifles as there are gauss weapons, and they fire twice as fast, why would you want to waste the valuable resources?

Cost is the only guiding factor in this.

large nations must mass produce weapons to provide a uniform degree of strength across all fronts while maintaining a reasonable budget. This leads to often weapons being made of lesser or older quality due to the fact that they are easier to produce and/or already have large quantities of that can be dispersed.

Smaller or emergent nations do not need to provide such a uniform strength across such a vast field, and often have a marginally smaller upfront force. This allows more funds to be allocated into equipping them with higher end technologically advanced weaponry.

An example of this happening in Reality is the American Revolutionary War.

the British Army had Brown Bess Muskets, the Americans had the Kentucky Rifle.

Even though Rifles existed long before the war even started, the British Army still used the outdated Musket because it was already well established and widely distributed making it cheap of cost.
