Would it be possible for Planetside to finally catch up to the modern times by upgrading its gaming engine? The changes might take awhile, but with zealous supporters the change might evolve the game to the next level.

Probably not. I have heard changing engine can really mess up a game and costs A LOT of work.

Yes agreed - the work involved would be immense and would need a very capacious wallet indeed to fund the development. Just moving to DX11 with the same underlying Forgelight engine proved a significant undertaking and wasn't without follow-on issues.

As others said, probably not, they couldn't even make the jump to DX12 XD
But with any luck this tech might allow others to start finally giving PS2 some competition!

    No chance.
It would be almost like remaking the game from 0 if UE5 can even support so many players.

They would literally have to rebuild the game from scratch. It would be awesome, and a great way to unravel all the bugs, but I don't think it's realistic given the game's state and the dev's agenda.

Also let's remember how they usually do this kind of stuff. "Upgrades" when implemented in the game often always do more harm than good. Take DX11 for example, which actually ended up making the game more unplayable than with DX9.

    short answer, no ..
a game is build on one existing engine (or people create their own inhouseengine), using a different engine you would have to rebuild the game from scratch ...
you build a game around the engine, you do not build a engine around the game ...

Would it be possible for Planetside to finally catch up to the modern times by upgrading its gaming engine? As stated above NO they can't even afford A full Dev team let alone the 10's of million's of doller's needed to rewrite the 30+million lines of code. Plus you would have to Drag the Dev team kicking and screaming away from posting on Reddit to read your suggestion in the first place.
