Critical Mass is a touch of brilliance

I can sit here and post at the touch of brilliance with the Critical Mass update, but instead I put my money where my mouth is with station cash.

Meanwhile as a long time veteran of both Planetside 1 and 2 and a huge fan of the first person shooter community. More and more veterans are returning to the game. People are contacting and asking me, is this one update that good. I said Daybreaks been trying to punch the right stuff into the game, but this last update was it!

Day Break has managed with putting infantry first and keeping the vehicles in tow as support. As the veterans return in mass and the numbers start to swell. Planetside is coming alive again, word travels fast. We all in our hearts love the Universal Soldier and that Pulse of Life is coming back again.

I disagree. Farm machines have taken more of a support role BUT!

Sundies are still waaaay to easy to take out, even with deployment shield. As a sundy driver, you are pretty much forced to sit and defend the thing as an engineer and running anything except deployment shield is useless as all it takes is 1 infantry to blow it up in less than 2 seconds. For light assaults with the new jetpack this is too easy.

That means, critical spawn locations are demolished and vehicle fights are promoted in the overall flow of battle.

In that regard, infantry fights are a LOT shorter than what they used to be, typically not lasting more than a few minutes as one team loses its spawn ability. Then it's straight back to the vehicles to push again.

Even in the small fights, all it takes is for one enemy to pull a Lightning or MBT and as the sundy driver, you gotta go MAX and fast to stop it in time, and you will only be successful depending on how well you dodge incoming shells.

That is a massive failure from my perspective, no where near brilliance but borderline incompetence.

i'm mixed on critical mass, somethings were great, some things were "wtf are they thinking" (like harasser resistance).

and some things were simply missed opportunities, like the changes to max suit slots,
this is the first time they've touched them in YEARS, they could have taken this as the perfect opportunity
to roll flak into the baseline max so they can fiiiinally survive a single c4 by default.

one HUGE issue with critical mass update is that it encourages 4th factioning and zerging, neither of which are good.

This is something I've been seeing as well: a lot of familiar faces from years ago. I'm not sure if they are staying as well, but there are definitely people returning -- if for nothing more, at least to check in how things are going.

I only play at certain times - EU - but I am seeing a lot more battles (and bigger battles) since the updates, especially during Alerts. I've seen no decrease in the number of vehicles driving around but I guess I am doing something wrong because my infantryman ability to kill them has just not improved .

I'm a long-time infantry player, just starting to run a HESH Lightning and I am finding that it is a pretty tasty vehicle, so long as I can restrain my infantry instinct to close too much with the enemy!

Planetside is not Call of Duty and this is what has been made on a larger scale. There are problems in trying todo so and tbh we had a great look at them during the Halloween event. The hit detection and lag in this game is pretty bad and why imo NC has had issues because your better to prey and spray at an area than try and aim and shoot in some scenarios(turning into more and more scenarios). The only gameplay where I thought the hit detection was fine was in the vehicle gameplay and that has been turned into a joke. If anyone comes and says there's nothing wrong with the hit boxes or detection, I can't help your poor soul. When infantry isn't afraid of charging at vehicles something is seriously wrong. PMB's aren't as scary as they once had been and because of that people just makeshift some for the cort gain not caring if they blow up or not and people especially infantry have little fear of them now. So a years worth of work to create a function in the game has basically been thrown out the window. The game has never really has purpose still has no purpose and will continue to have no purpose.

Defending was already the easy side of the two and the best way to farm. Now you make attacking harder with your changes and as a sundy driver deployment is really the only way to go anymore. Cloak is ok if you want to park them far away from the points but it's not hard to figure out where people are spawning from. Attacking is what drives fights and makes the game fun when you take away from that all you have is people wanting to defend. Defending goes on full force when your playing alerts now if you have enough territory, which is fine but its just a wholesale force respawn to each attacked location.

Aside from that I do like the lifespan of vehicle's now but the flipside of that you make changes to killing power but you don't make changes to the amount of kills needed to auraxium. Launches too of course if you make changes to TTK and chance of getting a kill you should also be making changes to directives as well. There have been far too many instances of weapons and directives being easy todo at one point in time. Sweeping changes occur and making some of those changes literally impossible or far more time consuming doing something really crappy to get the directive done. When you make changes one way you have to think of the implications of others aspects of the game. This is something that has been poorly looked upon.

Critical mass I like, combined arms initiative I feel was half *****. I have no love for vehicles farming infantry and my post history shows it, but when I can survive a direct hit from a tank shell... yeah.. it's kinda silly.

Speaking of which, I can survive a direct hit from a shell when on foot but it kills me when I'm on my MANA turret. Because nanites I suppose.

To be fair this started waay earlier than the recent patch. I blame rocklet rifles and the Fury nerf.

Light assaults were the prime enemy of deployed sunderers since launch. Deployment shield was introduced to combat a single infantry blowing up the sundy. You could still do it with an engineer and 5 anti tank mines but it took a lot of certs, know how and quite a bit of luck to be able to pull off a deployment shield sundy instagib. So light assaults got a new toy to play around with, awesome. Only it has terrible velocity and the "fan the hammer" dps firemode has terrible spread making it so it can only hit big stationary targets. I'm not one to jump to conspiracies but it looks like the rocklet rifle was introduced to allow light assault to solo deploy shield sundies.

Then there's the Fury nerf. The only weapon that allowed the Sundy to defend itself again BOTH infantry and light armor. Infantry cried because they were farmed by dual Fury buses and tank drivers cried because they didn't like their tanks dying to battle buses, disregarding the fact their 1/1 solo lightning lost to a 3/12 teamwork vehicle. So the Fury got neutered. Went from ~3 grenades to kill a single infantry to ~7. People started teching in an anti infantry Kobalt on their Sundy to fight off infantry in general and light assault with their new rocklets in particular, which resulted in better results against infantry but a guaranteed loss against any other vehicle. I guess even with just 1 Fury on top the devs thought Sundies were still too strong because CAI reduced magazine capacity from 12 to 10.

/endrant. Your average auraxian bus driver.

Update looked good at first glance, but eventually got me to quit.
Just didn't feel the same anymore. (I'm an infantry player btw.)
