Do you think it's impossible to merge continents?

Imagine Hossin, Indar, Amerish and Esamir in the same continent, imo it would be great!

Maybe (for sure) it's impossible because of performance issues or server load exc. but it would be an interesting thing to do to make all 4 continents played, or, maybe, everybody will be on the Indar part, who knows.

What do you think? 1 huge map instead of 4, is it better? Maybe someday PS3 will have my answer..

There is a reason for continent locking.

You would hit the problem of battlefronts so wide (and offering so many connect points) that giant zergs would just avoid each other and ghost cap. This is what ended up happening with Hex and (one reason) why they had to move to Lattice: funnel/steer players into each other.

If you can find a way to get players to *choose* to engage each other (and somehow get DBG to implement it), or if you can find enough players who love ghost capping, then it could work.

This was a possibility when Higby was working for the game. Now all the visions are strictly behind closed doors

They could by making them separated by oceans, it would take some clever programming to make transition smooth and lag-free, but it would be pretty cool if successful.

Making warpgates work would already be a great thing. You know, they are warpgates, they're supposed to be teleporters, not bases.

At this point they could simply rename them as Sanctuary...

Well, unless they add in methods of travel beyond the warp gates, wouldn't it be literally what we have now but with heavier load?
As well, each is bloody massive, add in lattice systems having to either connect some how, or again it identical to now but with heavier load.

Unless aircraft could reach the other "regions", like say from Hossin to Indar, but in those cases... ah, Aircraft would be superior allowing forces to literally be in zones unavailable to be intercepted.
If not, then we have no difference beyond if the distance is either kept or removed, where tanks , aircraft, and snipers could fire from one to the other.

    * Regions, used in this context, refer to places not on 'that' particular map.

If all merged into one piece: How in blazes would that work?
Each is a separated land mass at present.
Unless we get glorious naval forces, it'll be identical to now but with warp-gates on different parts being used to assault other "regions" with a closer proximity - Or be literally 3 mass-points for each side, making it a cluster-****.

If they do meld all the continents together than i should be able to also fly from one side of the planet to the other going in a single direction and have small contestable islands in between with naval combat thrown in.

I think I heard a while back (in 2015 or something...) that the Forgelight engine was updated. The current engine should be capable of rendering all continent simultaneously.

Combine that with this idea, the intercontinental lattice that was in the works years ago:

Then add the idea that everyone pops up with every now and then: Adding a navy, alongside the Bastion Carrier alongside it.

And lastly, a system that shuffles the continents and continental lattice. Meaning that Hossin isn't always the middle continent.

But I think that the most important part we need to think about is this:
  11. Pikachu

Combine this with Wrel's old video where he said that ICL was a good idea 3 years ago but now it won't work (too low pop).

    Maybe not...
Imagine this: the current rule of "only two are open at a time" still stands. But we just add "battle-islands" to the mix. But rather than opening continents based on which one was locked last, you open it based on the victories achieved.

    For example in this picture:

Imagine if Indar and Esamir are the only two open continents (note that this means there are no "home warpgates"). Now Esamir is locked by the TR, who manage to capture the top left warpgate on Esamir.
This causes the battle-islands to open (not sure how to make a system that players can pick which warpgate connects to the battle-islands or another continent exclusively. You could just randomly assign it to each warpgate based on which faction you are). Allowing players to fight only on Indar and the Battle Islands. Depending on which faction conquers both battle Islands first, the next continent is unlocked. Or in case Indar locks first another continent is unlocked.

Since the next continent unlock is defined by who wins the next continent, we can create an end-game. Say TR wins Esamir and the Battle Islands. Then the TR will never unlock these continents, why would they? This means that eventually the TR could win every single engagement, locking every single continent and the battle-islands until one is left. If they suceed they "win" that round, the continents and their continental lattices are swapped around and it begins again.
