Oh I never meant that the killers are running like crazy trying to knife people. I wrote that sometimes, when the enemy is unaware of the presence of the player, a killer will try to knife him if it's relatively safe. He will take the added risk that something will go wrong (like the target may suddenly decide to turn around or another enemy may appear) and try to humiliate the opponent rather than just shoot him which would've been safer in most cases.

id probably fit in-between killer and achiever. i like to play fighters a lot, such as blazblue, which require a lot of skill, reaction time, and general focus. but at the same time i dont want to humiliate the other player (unless you count styling with flashy combos to kill them when i could just use a distortion - a super attack basically - to finish them)

But at the same time i absolutely love skyrim, which isnt challenging at all, but has an amazing story. so idk.
If i were to order the categories from what i am most to what i am least itd be:
    Killer
    Achiever
    Socializer
    Explorer

Because lets face it, everyones a little bit of everything.

This graph ilustrates the relations between player type and things they value in games.
As I said most people match multiple cathegories, although some more than other.
It is possible to be very close to the middle, although rather rare.

Try asking yourself, which do you value the most in a game:
    -having any sort of multiplayer(Players) or a deep,complex story(World)?
-Having great gameplay mechanics(Acting) or a large, living world with many places to explore and interesting NPCs to meet(Interacting)?
Imagine you can only pick one from each cathegory. Then look at the graph and see what's your type. If you still can't decide it means you're probably somewhere in the middle.

    Exactly.
And, you just can't help but love Skyrim, even if it's not normally your type of game.

I honestly think this is quite flawed, and whoever designed it spent more time in a lab than playing video games (no offense).
  6. Alan Kalane

none taken, I didn't come up with this :D
Any attempt to cathegorize humans is doomed to be imperfect, as there will always be some individuals who are greatly divergent from the norm. Bartle himself admitted that it's imperfect and doesn't apply to everything.

That said it is proven to work. In MMO design bartle's taxonomy is like the basic 2+2=4. MMOs are designed to satisfy all types of players and then are optimized in terms of income. For example, if a particular type of players tends to pay more (usually achievers and explorers), MMOs generally catter towards that group by releasing more content to satisfy them.

Gosh its been a while since i played this game. Hell, i stopped several months ago. it depends of the game but in general i am geared towards the killer mentality. i am a k/d ***** and the thing that kept me playing ps2 was because i did well in it and the exciting battles i could have with it. But once it became a bit of a slog, no decent fights, being bogged down in meat grinder battles because of poor base design/teamwork/ etc i called it quits. hackers also didn't help as well.

That's not to say that i don't have any of the other ones. On the contray, if it was a coop game where we united against a common goal, i would gladly pick up support roles and do the stuff the other people don't want to do. Killing doesn't become my main obcession, survival does. In l4d i prided myself being the guy who watched everyones back, giving medkits to everyone. In ps2 i enjoyed being the medic and engineer knowing that i was helping other people, keeping them in the fight and maintaining their enjoyment of the game.

So what drives it for me personally? the answer; the opposition is actually human. i absolutely hate competition and i despise strangers getting one up on me. Why should i humiliate myself and why should other people have fun at my expense? Why must i be someones ***** stroking their ego at the expense of my one? A death streak is more than enough to trigger rage (ps2 thankfully has not been the worst case of rage, that goes to the dirty bomb beta whereby after a rage inducing game i broke a chair in anger) but i get very, very vindictive and even start tracking peoples names and stats to see what kind of person they are and who their friends are. they're probably not what they think they are, but damn it seeing a stranger get one up on me annoys me no end and its probably why i hate playing team based matches. PS2 is luckily falls into the happy medium of being a team organised fight where the objectives switch so often that its a moot point whether we lose it or not. At the very least i could jump into an enjoyable fight elsewhere. Well, i could if there had been more.

Technically i'm none of them. I ride ponies that fart rainbows while eating popcorn

    Nah. Honestly, i consider myself a killer/socializer
  9. Sinful Raevyn

    I can't pick just one. <_<

I belong to both killer and explorer with equal points in each.

Keep voting guys, we need at least 100 votes for a reasonable sample size
  12. Caramboul

    Achiever 4/10
    Socializer 3/10
    Explorer 2/10
    Killer 1/10

I guess I'd be a Killer. Though my killing tactics suggest me more of a harasser if anything; just finding new, devious ways to 1UP the opposition. Like hiding in abnormal places within an enemy base as Light Assault, and shooting them in their backs.

I also tend to pick on infiltrators more than I should.
  14. DarkStarII

All but socialiser, maybe a little but barely.
