I'm pretty sure its part of the Galaxy directive, but its a mildly common tactic for Valkyries too, particularly if you're hunting for that one infiltrator that is sniping the guys you just dropped off. Or the max crash thats decided to go down a conveniently obstruction free bridge that's perfect for landing on.....

No, no, no, you play "all factions" the way I play "all factions," while maining VS. You main NC. For the purposes of this discussion you're an NC player. Your alts are irrelevant. Don't even bring them in, because we all know you do your best work on NC, and that's what I'm hitting: Your best. I don't settle.

"You might also realise that the only diference between you and me is I don't need to stay for capture exp because I've got better ways to get it."

This right here made me laugh. Capturing and defending a facility isn't about getting XP and certs, its about capturing or defending the damn facility. It's *the entire point* of the game: Territory control. There isn't a way for you to spin this. You, abjectly, do not play the actual game. You're playing your own little game doing your own little thing, while everyone on the ground is actually playing the game and contributing to their faction's success. You don't play to objectives. You look down on objectives. You look down on players who care about the objectives more than their stats, which is why there's no room for you in my squad or my platoons, because no one plays on my team that doesn't put the grind or the objectives ahead of their stats. Stats come last. Objectives come first. The team comes first.

You're not a team player. You're out for yourself to get better stats under the very misguided assumption that your f*cking stats mean anything to anyone, and that somehow you're going to get respect for them. Well, where is that respect? Where are your fans to come to your defense? Are you surprised yet? I'm not. This is PlanetSide. The players who are good at this game are the players who can lead and take orders at the same time, and win for their team. Guess what that looks like on paper?

Crappy stats. When my squad commander tells me to lay down suppressing fire I start shooting. I don't care if I hit anything. I just spray in the general direction. I'll empty magazine after magazine into nothing but air if it means keeping a push at bay. I expect the players in my squad to do the exact same thing. I expect them to stay on the f**ing point and ignore everything that isn't a threat to it. I expect them to throw grenades when I tell them to throw grenades. I expect them to waste nanites when I tell them to waste nanites, and that's a courtesy I extend to them: I don't ask them to do anything I won't do for a squad commander myself.

So, yeah, my stats suck. I'm proud of it. I play PlanetSide, not Call of Duty. Those players like me whom you deride as meat shields have been kicking your a$$ since 2012, and you don't even realize it. Your capture and defend numbers prove it. I've taken numerous breaks from the game, too. Long ones to play other games, and even longer ones when my rig was in bad shape. So, what's your excuse again?

Just don't forget, you're the one who brought stats into this. Not me. I know my stats are only slightly above average, and in many schools of thought that makes me a scrub, but tell that to the players in my squad. We win.

Lol, you are a scrub. Ever notice good outfits don't "lay suppressing fire". They shoot to kill.

You're a zergling lil guy. Keep thinking you're making a difference.
That being said; I truly am grateful for the meat-shield you provide.

You've got the same mentality as every other zergling, and that's the difference between elite outfits and zerglings. That's why you whimper and cry when you see one of those outfits come; because you know that a dozen of them will beat a platoon of you.

Good luck Zergling! And may the Overmind be with you.

And supporting the team is bad why?
I mean suppressive fire is still distracting and it shows that someone is watching and actively shooting, prefire is a much better deterant for doorways than letting a guy throw a nade into the door properly and peek out, the latency in this game benefits the attacker much more than the defender.

Besides what benefits suppressive fire gives, it's just crass to mock someones playstyle, I could be a sasr ghost tsar god and simply break the game because I never get anything but headshots, some would look at it and say the guy is ridiculously good, I'd see it as ridiculously boring, doesn't mean I tell the guy that he's a boring player for only playing one thing, I simply commend him for doing what he does, same for some legend that got to BR100 without killing a single person. Some probably called him an idiot, I would gladly call him commited.
At least the "zergling" wants to cooperate with other players, thats a ****ton more than I can expect from the average headshot bait that shoots you in the back, so good for him for following leadership.

To be fair, I have seen ESF pilots who are tremendous team players. But given the craft they're flying, corraling them from a leadership perspective can be challenging. All professional vehicle drivers are often given a lot of lee-way, generally because they're something you'd rather have than not, and because particularly for aircraft, you can't always judge why they are somewhere just based on the minimap. Yes, your Mossy guy might be 2500m from platoon waypoint, but that may be because all the terminals closer were hacked or under fire.

But given the aircraft and its role, this does create a temptation for ESF pilots to not give up a chase and get back on mission. You might be able to chase that reaver all the way back to the warpgate and get a kill on him, but that's not what we need your ESF to do. We may be building a base, for example, and need you to provide CAP until the skyshields go up, or to escort the ANTs against libbies. In these roles, the ESF is very valuable given its ability to intercept and deny aircraft that are on approach (Given an option, I'd prefer that enemy Gal hit our AA range and Skyshield with 3/4 health from tomcats).

But these roles are not often rewarded with the certs. Instead, the ESF mechanic often rewards people for engaging and "roaming" on an area, looking for targets of opportunity and kills, rather than simply assists, which can be hard to find on a 300m circular tether that you might need to keep an area clear of air. From the perspective of someone with a cert intensive vehicle and a natural interest in maximizing their rewards for time played, these sorts of "babysitting" jobs can be a difficult sell. Also, flying in circles or scanning up at the skybox can become tedious.

Thus, having other means to encourage people to do so is important. I'm not the greatest SL/PL in the world, but I do keep an eye out for farming opportunities or "good fights" of all varieties, and the ability of people to mess around in light air engagements is something I start factoring in if I know I've got a good libby/esf playerbase at my disposal.

The danger to that, and why I don't go for "moderately" contested air space fights is that AA is not always optimally performing, so that my "persistent" air envelope (The range in which my skyguards, walkers, and bassies can engage things) might get penetrated by an air swarm before my "organic" air envelope, including mossies and A2ALibs, can react. This sets up a tension, in which I have to balance the interests of air players who want to earn certs and stats by engaging air targets vs. the overall survivability of my unit, which is generally ground based.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how one can improve the team-play aspect of the ESF? What ways would you suggest using to improve the experience or likelihood of ESFs/Libby pilots participating in a platoon?

Use thermals, call out to teammates where the enemy is while killing stragglers.

That or buff scout radar by 200 meters so you aren't continuously in danger of getting shelled by a tank

No, the good outfits do not "shoot to kill." What game are you playing? This is how I know you're completely full of sh*t and disconnected from the entire point of this game. The best outfits spam the hell out of everything. They spam grenades to break a hold out, they spray down corridors to keep nothing from coming through, they react quickly from fight to fight, and they coordinate. Shoot to kill my ***. And how do I know that? Oh, I dunno, I've been playing longer than you.

You spend so little time in actual battles that you have no idea how they're actually fought. Ask The Iron Wolves how they fight. They're the best NC outfit on Emerald, and they kick my *** on a regular basis, and let me assure you they do not fight the way you think its done outside very small skirmishes. In all out battles they hit with everything they got, and it's not exactly a practice in precision. They'll set you straight.

TIW, I know perfectly how they roll, I've fought with them before. Same with Dasanfall, same with HONK, ECUS (only a tiny bit with ecus, and it was mostly messing around. I got to admit that) and any other good outfit you can think of. The only ones I haven't fought with is AC. That and maybe some of the newer TR ones. Otherwise, I've fought with every single one of them at some point in time.

But then again, you wouldn't know any of that because I doubt you've ever even talked to anybody in there. But for future reference, why don't you go look at my friend list on NC. You'll notice you can find many players of those outfits in there. Should give you a hint.

Then again, you're so wrapped up in your own tiny world that you think you're actually an asset.
    Fight on, meat shield!
  9. Shiaari

I don't need to talk to them. I fight *against* them. I know more about how they roll than you do.
