Just Had a Weird Thought

What exactly is all of this constant warfare doing to our characters? Realistically, with all of the times they've died, they should all have major cases of PTSD. Plus, what will they actually do after the war is over. We've created an entire planet populated only with people whose only skills are killing things. I just want to hear your thoughts on the subject.

There are no PTSDs because there is no fear of harm or death. You get hurt you either slap a medkit or find a medic, same way with disease. You die and you either get revived or reborn at a nearby facility.

What will they do when the war is over? They won't. No war, no game, no money.

According to an unofficial lore source, the 'rebirthed' soldiers were once against the constant fighting after so long, but were later implanted of atrocities committed by the other factions to rekindle the hate.

All the non-rebirth units of each faction have all died out, and all that remains of the planet is this endless war, led by crazies that simply will not die.

It's a video game, please don't think too hard on this.

Star Trek had an episode on this. There was this prison planet, and prisoners would kill each other all the time, just to come back to life shortly after. IIRC it was some technomagical property of planet's atmosphere that would revive people or some such.

They didn't play a lot on prisoners' psyche, they just were slightly weird, comfortable with their eternal hate for each other.

Really, there won't be civilian life. After this war, the society will still only have people who know war and so they will try to make war. You'd end up with an interplanetary empire bent on conquest. Eventually, the empire would either lose to another race it sets out to conquer and end up either conquered or in another eternal war, or it will conquer all other planets it can and will quickly deteriorate due to internal conflict. You're going to have a bunch of military generals who want power and they will raise their own armies and basically, if one faction wins, that empire will quickly collapse as soon as there isn't a great cause to rally behind and it will be brought back in to constant war until eventually war-like government fades out and they start making friends with and trading with surrounding planets to become a civilized society completely unrecognizable when compared to the faction it was during the war between Vanu, TR, and NC.

Someone did an excellent drawing of a TR max with PTSD.... Someone link pls!

    They'll have a giant orgy.

    Depends on who "wins".

Assuming the TR are victorious, they would likely establish an iron fisted autocracy, and work on reestablishing contact with Earth.

Assuming the NC are victorious, they would likely fracture under political pressure into several factions, and the war would reignite as smaller corporate empires fought for dominion.

Assuming the VS are victorious, they would likely advance the evolution of the human species rapidly, eventually setting forth from Araxius on a galactic crusade in order to bring "Enlightenment" to other sentient life, and possibly to search for the Vanu themselves.

Any way the wind blows, it's not a pretty picture.

What would it do on an individual level?
Well we know that the players use sculpted bodies for warfare. They never tire, they are proficient until they collapse and die, they feel pain but overcome it just as quickly so it only serves as a warning they are getting shot at, they can run and be accurate with their weapons so there's some neuro programming happening.
And because of that neuro programming they are probably just shells of what they were. Their will to fight is probably programmed, but somehow each faction has enough ethics (at this moment) not to just make 100.000 copies of the best soldier they have and have him go against the world "solo"

Then there's all the other questions about why they aren't doing it. Why aren't they creating a memory of each soldier's important knowledge of the area near where you spawn for perfect environmental awareness? Why aren't they copy-pasting the skills and physique of one soldier into a less skillful/well build one? Why aren't they building specialized bodies? Such as dog-shaped one's for high-speed (and pretty covert) attacks? Give all soldiers tails to operate special machinery or just hang some extra magazines on? Create monkey-like bodies for climbing? Create goat-like bodies for climbing steep hills? Why not give them all specialized skins like a Catfish that can change it's skincolor and texture to anything including flashing lights?

And I can come up with a million similar questions like these.

I don't think many of you understand what PTSD actually is. And probably are confusing it with TBI.

Either way, if the war did end, the soldiers participating in it would go back to their normal lives. Just as any WW1, WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, or Gulf War vet has done in the past, and probably have it easier.. Reason for this is the rebirthing 'fixes' the PTSD. Its a stress related 'injury'. If the rebirthing sequence was taken of them prior or at the beginning of the war.. then everytime the soldier is cloned or rebirthed or what have you, then the problem is 'fixed'. Or more accurately.. the new body and mind never had the PTSD or TBI to begin with. The dead disintegrated bit of nanites that had it prior, is effectively erased.

Memories do not cause PTSD, but events on the physical mind do. When that's erased, so is the PTSD. But as for implanted memories and the effects of rebirthing.. that's a whole other ballgame.

When its over will we all be friends? Or will we still hate the VS?
I sort of get the NC, they are deluded and cant help it. But the VS, uuuuggghhhhh
