[Suggestion] Can we focus on some of the -actual- issues this game has?

    Seriously.

I was going to post this in response to yet ANOTHER ***** thread about the VS .75 ADS, but then I decided to post it out in the open so more people can see it.

I see an abundance of threads whining about the stats of various firearms in comparison to one another, and I get it, everyone wants their faction to be on par with everyone else's.

But there are far, far, far more important things that need addressing - the lack of a metagame, the ******** way continent locking works currently, the many half-baked measures that, with some thought and effort, could become a great features for the game.

How about we stop whining about gun stats for five ******* minutes and focus on the actual problems this game has? I've been playing this game for roughly three years (by best reckoning), and the first year of that was largely nothing but the team doing nothing but tweaking gun stats because players whinged about them incessantly and the dev team listened.

And guess what? It ultimately solved nothing. Some of those changes were needed, true (looking at you, Rocket Pods). But none of them were the root cause of the game's deficiencies or issues. The game didn't go anywhere, didn't develop, or evolve into anything new or better or different, and now we have what we have, and to some extent, the community contributed to that stagnation.

So next time some arsehole kills you for the millionth time and you alt-tab to the forums to ***** about whatever gun whatever faction was using being overpowered, just take a deep breath, realize that there's already more than enough complaints about that ****, the dev team have better things to work on than more pointless number shuffling, and just don't.

    Seconded

Here here, Bluescales. Though, those whiners are quite lucky Radar is such a nice guy as those threads do break the forums TOS and can lead to the inability to continue to post on the forums.

Childs can't think in big view Mate. They will just think about what they see, and in game, the main thing players see is the weapons they use. So everyone will just complain that their favourite weapon isn't as perfect as they wanted, or that they don't like being killed by certain enemy weapons.

While your complaint is completely fair, it remains useless. Forums are overfilled of whining kids, so nearly noone will bother to change mind and try improving the game. All what counts is them killing with their weapon without being killed...

Furthermore I do not believe that mild tweaking to a single weapon's stats is going to affect a faction's overall performance in any way. So not only are such complaints detrimental, they're also completely pointless. They will achieve nothing except soothe someone's pet peeve.

Exactly. 99.9 percent of the time it's useless static that's simply drowns out or pushes aside any meaningful discourse by the playerbase to try and move the game in a positive and constructive direction. The sheer scale of the game means that tweaking a few numbers is going to have a tiny impact at best.

There'd probably be a lot less complaining about balance if the game provided players with better command and co-ordination tools so they could work together to overcome threats and tactical or strategic challenges. But all we have is a half-***** organization system and a few lame command certs.

    Its a MMOFPS, not MMORPG.
Its all about guns/vehicle balance, stop with the pseudo "its not those op guns or easymode given by devs that dont even test their own product" because it is.
FPS games need to be symmetrical so it comes down to player skill and organization, not to be owned because enemy player has the tool you dont.
Example, who the hell though it was a smart idea was the Lasher for VS, only faction with splash damage HA weapon???
Unfortunately this game has too much of that idioticy called asymmetrical balance.
    Metagame, lol.....

I sure hope you are trolling. This is a really sad response.
The vehicles aren't asymmetrical balanced. They are paralel balanced with some small differences.
I've played many asymmetrical games and I know you can have it balanced while both factions hardly have anything in common. Best example is CnC renegade. Despite the highest tier level on one side being a two barrel with two rocket pods with double any tanks health and persistent auto healing below 50% total health, the other faction their lightweight hardhitting stealth tank with a third of the health and no healing was considered much better. Due to the better medium tank, the weaker side made uo for that lack of power. It wasn't perfect, but gabe varied gameplay with wildly different tactics. Despite the imperfection and slight favour of one faction, organisation and skill would determine the match in practically all cases.

If you don't understand that, then what are you doing here? This is a game that isn't all about winning. There is an intentional gap left for goofing around and letting players do what they wish. You won't find what you want here.

Uh, first year was when there was the most mount of meaningful (but not balanced) stuff added.

    ■ Flash update. Cloak made the first and only cloaked vehicle. Added a new play style for infiltrators. Also added a surprisingly fun weapon and introduced the rumble seat.
    ■ PAS - The only 1HK infantry weapon besides rockets. Introduced single shell reload mechanic.
    ■ SMGs - 2 sets of ES weapons. Created a new play style for infiltrators.
    ■ Harasser - A powerful and unique new vehicle added. Has seen plenty of use unlike crap valkyrie.
    ■ ESRL - The most unique ES weapons added so far. Has big effects on the game though mostly bad. Introduced charge up mechanic and camera guidance mechanic.
    ■ AV mana turret - Gave engineer a new play style. Introduced laser guidance mechanic.
    ■ Secondary AA weapons - Vastly improved galaxy and liberator defense against aircraft. Gave ground vehicles a chance to shoot aircraft, sees plenty of use on sunderers. Dual walker sunderer is quite nice.
    ■ Annihilator - First RL with lock for both air and ground.
    ■ VR - Critical thing for the game.
    ■ Esamir revamp - Lots of work but not so good result.
    ■ Nexus - Sadly didn't become a thing.
    ■ Lattice - Big change to the game.
    ■ MAX update - A set of distinct ES AV weapons which saw lots of use. Also an ES ability and new set of cosmetic armor. Was supposed to have 2 NS weapons as well.

Ok. But this is a rant. You are not actually:
    1) Establishing the REAL problems with the game
    2) Giving suggestions on how to tackle them

A common complaint is that the gameplay has been reduced to TDM. It's not surprising:
    * For large groups (platoons), the challenge is organising massess of people. This is never going to get easy unless its the tight knit community (outfit).
    * For smaller groups, faction level objectives are trivial in interest, never mind in reward. Hence more attention is directed towards finding the most efficient cert farm routine that doesn't trigger an DBG sourced ban.

Why do anything BUT TDM in this game? It's a conflicting genre. The culture behind FPS is that you jump in, shoot people the face, jump out. Easy and innocent. The culture behind MMOs is community/group first, zerg your enemy, min-max, and many more. You can combine the genres and call it whatever you want, but to change a culture, never mind 2, is extremely difficult.

This game will never be more than a TDM. Because it's a shooter first, and combined arms persistent "RPG" third. The second is forum warrioring the 0.75 ADS trait. Tee hee.

DBG has a stripped down bastard brother of BattleField on their hands. Lack of lobby screens might appeal to some, but the novelty wears off once you draw the parallels and realise that it's just meatgrinder version of your typical shooter.

THERE WERE some enthusiasts who went out and did dumb stuff, like ride buggies on Galaxies, and all sorts of other stupid stuff. But for the persistence to even matter this game has too little sand to play with. Only sand there is is guns and vehicles which are locked behind a kill counter <- primary motivator for the TDM mentality.

    PS2 needs an endgame.

WG's should be siegable/capturable so you can kick enemy empires off continents.
  12. Sandpants

And what kind of endgame will that offer? The irony is that when you kick enemies of the continent, you have nothing to do on that continent...
  13. Scr1nRusher

You lock the continent for your empire.
  14. Sandpants

    ...so what?
  15. Scr1nRusher

    0_o
  16. Sandpants

Why would I need a continent I have nothing to populate with, monetise or use?
    You cap the continent
Fight moves on to the next continent. Whether you win or lose you are still going to show up on another cont.
  17. Scr1nRusher

Holy crap this is facepalm worthy.

Do you not know that Continent Locking gives you bonus's?
  18. patoman

They are adding some kind of player base building, so that definatly will add something.
  19. Sandpants

    Right.
    Worth it.

    Not.
