This is a post from a while back that I am reposting for PS4 and newer players because I found it incredibly helpful to me (See Below)

I wanted a way to train myself on twitch reaction, target(and head) aquisition and ammo conservation, so I came up with a game of sorts. I would go to VR training and equip Heavy Assault. Any weapons or attatchments. Equip Adrenaline shield. Heres how this "game" works.

1.Line yourself up at a shooting range(dont shoot or ads yet)
    2.Activate your shield.
    3. Aquire enemy targets and try to keep your shield up as long as possible.
    4. Continue this until:
    A. you run out of ammo(on all weapons)
    B. you run out of shield
    5. Resupply and try again.

    Rules:
    1.No resupplying during a session
    2.No switching shooting ranges

    Notes:
Other people may be using the same range as you. In the game allies may be shooting at your target so it actually makes this game more accurate to the real thing.

If enemy dummys arent spawning well same as above. There arent always an excess of enemies this helps you get used to it.

This "game" is actually quite entertaining and easily scalable to skill. If its too easy to "win" then use a more difficult weapon or take off attatchments. If its too hard use more attatchments or an easier handling weapon. Its all about you.

In addition to what I wanted this for, it also serves as a training tool for recoil/trigger management, friendly fire avoidance, reload management, knowing when to use a sidearm and situational awareness.

Thanks for reading, please leave a like or a note if this helped you at all. Of course Have fun.

    Maybe?

I just know that having a minimum of 60 fps in large fights means that you usually won't have shots fail to register. With myself only getting really 40 I typically rely on slower firing but more accurate weapons.

Honestly I think you're giving yourself a hard time by always using the MCG, it is a great weapon, but it's not something you want all the time (IMO).

If I were you I'd try out the default Carv (arguably PS2 most underrated weapon) or MSW-R and swap the the MCG in more favourable closer range encounters.

If you really want MCG style DAKKAthough why not give MAX specialistion a go? Onslaughts or Mutilators give a similar (to MCG) experience only with a fair bit more general toughness which makes life a bit more forgiving especially with low frame rates.

Mini chain gun excels at close range. You are going to need a long range secondary, and make sure to use cover and shields while getting closer to your enemy. At close range, remember to aim and keep your crosshairs dead center. You should be able to wipe out things then.

It is perfectly fine to always keep the mini chain gun on you at all times, as long as you also have a long range secondary.

    I have Blackhand as secondary.

I wish the Faction HA Main Weapons were a staple like in PS1.

I think that he's referring to the ES HA weapons, the MCG, Jackhammer and Lasher.

Actually, I find I disagree with a lot of posts regarding the MCG. It is a pretty good beginner weapon, as it doesn't require headshots (you do just as much damage going for the torso) and has strong stats. Admittedly it does require good reaction times so you can get spin up happening sooner.

I like the Resist Shield the most, however, is beginner unfriendly, as it requires you to be able to hit the shield button before you get shot to make it effective. Other than that the NMG is a great starter, soaking a reliable 650 damage. Couple this with Nanoweave and you're set, or stick with Resist + Shield Capacitor.

If you want to watch some Heavy Assault videos, just type in BigIronRanger, but try not to drool too much. He does play primarily NC, but you can still learn. The old saying "Monkey see, monkey do" applies to everyone, however, don't try to copy their playstyle exactly, you'll just do worse trying to do something that very few can.

Also, don't be disheartened by your KD of 0.66. For a beginner, that isn't too bad, as I distinctly remember mine being horrible first time around. And getting a PC upgrade is very important to improve gameplay, as anything less than 45 FPS will harm your ability, under 40 severely. Unfortunately PS2 has a reputation for giving poor computers heart attack, but that can't really be helped.

Also, my biggest tip for beginners is to not give up. When I was a beginner, I often lost 1v1s to opponents, and almost always to other Heavies. You can and will get better at the game, especially as you begin to understand the workings of the game. For now, stick with groups, especially ones with medics. Follow your other friendly Heavies into the fight, let them take the brunt of the battle, and you just try to kill as many as you can, hopefully your medics can survive the rest of the fight and revive you. But don't give up, no one started out doing well, but the ones who kept at it got better and now have KDs of 3+.
