    What does everyone else think?

    Does the "competitive scene" matter?
  3. Haquim

No, it doesn't, and it was a stupid idea from the beginning.

The "competitive" guys are 90% self-absorbed elitist douchebags and
if they managed there were only 3 options what could have happened.
    1. The MLG pro competitive guys succeed, and everybody not willing to spend the time and effort to organize a equal counteroffensive can't do ****. Casual players get more and more annoyed and leave the game for good.
    2. The MLG pro guys succeed for a while, until some semiorganized casual outfit decides they are annoying and proceeds to curbstomp them with superior numbers. MLG gets annoyed because the grunts beat them with numbers and leave.
    3. MLG take one base after the other, casuals simply redeploy to avoid them and capture the base back after they leave. MLG notice they can win fights, but lack the numbers to make a real difference in the war. MLG realizes they can't win on their own and leave.

But of course for the MLG guys to be even noticeable you need to bring a dozen or more warpgates together and make them stay together... and sometimes that doesn't even work with small teams like in CS, DotA or LoL....

Ps2 was all over the place with promises of features to be added, MLG spectacle and the broadcast clash that seemed like everyone was coked out and partying with that bald overweight british guy, with no regard for the cost and misdirection of funds and how they would impact the game.

    MLG went MIA.

And that's somewhat fine. Except it seemed like the battle islands were being hustled out to facilitate MLG matches. And the battle islands would have added a nice intercontinental feature that's missing from the game, as well as likely allowed people with lower end pcs to play In those areas.(and possibly buy sc)

To be honest I quite enjoyed the TB slot but the way it panned out was very sloppy in game.

Ofc it does. Actualy this is only that matters atm cuz game have no pourpouse curently.

you can't turn PS2 into a 'competitive' game without removing 90% of what makes it fun

just got play a shooter whose mechanics are a better fit for competitive play; there's lots of them out there

    To some people.

Actually you can do both. There is server smash which everyone I know of, including me, who took part enjoyed entirely to much and with battle islands you will have a series of smaller maps that could easily be used for some smaller scale competitive play without seriously affecting the rest of the game. Not sure how they would do the tournaments since that is over 100 people they would need to ship in just for 2 platoons to fight but the actual game side is very possible.

All games have no purpose... Ps2 just do sent pretend it does like other games that take the controls away from you every 20-40 minutes to tell you if you won or not.
