Why do most PS2 players lack a sense of humour??

Becasue this is planetside, not facebook. If you gotta socialise, you're in the wrong place.

If you want a game that is devoid of people having fun together you should play a single-player game.
  3. Hatesphere

people have tons of fun together in this game, just not in yell chat. join an outfit. there is a reason the hord and alliance cant talk to each other in WoW, and its becasue it would all just devolve into the level of mouth breathing ps2 yell chat is at most of the day.

People on Miller talk.. its just usually in the last 60 seconds of a completely lost cause battle. Otherwise people are busy you know... playing the game and talking on teamspeak.

Really? I did the whole of Bohemian Rhapsody with some random guy by doing one line, after which the other did the next. And that's just one of the things I did in the chat (he was in a conversation that ended with "really? Is this the real life?")

I have seen less chat in Planetside 2 than in other games, but not much. I can understand though: unlike other games a person you are chatting with might suddenly be in another region not being able to see your responses, and there's always a battle somewhere you can join, so there's always some mindless killing to do somewhere rather than chat. And even just running around or respawning can take the breath out of a conversation, as you can't talk while you are dead. In other games I usually use the pauzes when I'm dead to chat.

If people actually bother to stop what they're doing with their entertainment minutes, just to report what some dimwit on chat is saying... it's a very good indication that what you're saying is not funny.

    You should take the hint.

I've found that 8/10 times when someone says, "you need a sense of humor" it actually means "you do have a sense of humor but I want your sense of humor to match my sense of humor". And usually their standards for what is "funny" falls far below what your average middle-class college-educated individual would find funny.

Most often this occurs when someone says something racist, sexist, or otherwise offensive and then has everyone else kind of awkwardly staring at them.

It is a poor comedian who blames their audience.

When I meet someone that says I need a sense of humor it's usually the guy that just killed me after I spent an hour trying to save a base from cap during an alert and he decides that a C4 drop at the vehicle terminal is the height of levity.

It's the internet folks, a place where no one gives a rats *** about anything but instant gratification in all its forms.

I'm actually surprised that person responded to my "wtf" at all...

Switched to Emerald for that very reason. Had tons more fun on Emerald NC, people actually talk in proxy. EU just has a giant stick up their ****. Though I will admit, I did have a few laughs in EU /yell chat.

When I log in to play, I log in to actually play and shoot people in the face.

Not see some mouth breathing dimwit run his mouth in chat. Not to see to some adult acting like an immature little kid telling jokes that stopped being funny in 3rd grade. Not to see all the assinine "taunting" between the factions.

As was said above there is a good reason Horde and Alliance cannot talk to each other in WoW. PS2 chat just reinforces the fact Blizzard made a good choice there. Something IMHO Daybreak needs to take seriously into consideration here.

There's a reason why its called the zerg.

Cert farming zerglings have no senses of humor. Any attempts at such is considered a detriment to the farm. You know its bad when you get reported for griefing by C4ing an enemy sundy.

Don't do anything to get in the way of these. Those people would likely come at you with a butter knife IRL if given the chance. They're freaking serious about that stuff.
  12. Ianneman

This is partly what I'm talking about yes.

The most annoying thing of all is when in an alert you've got these bozos in command chat going on about "YOU PEOPLE ARE USELESS, GO PLAY ANOTHER GAME IF YOU DON'T TAKE THE ALERT SERIOUSLY" bla bla bla.

Dude, it's a ******* game. People play it for FUN, well, that's what I hope they do. From so many people I see I get the distinct impression that this game is WAY TOO SERIOUS an issue for them. PS2 is incredibly immersive and addictive, I get that, but holy **** some behaviour I see just makes me sad for some people.

More jokes/humour/fun/banter/chat would do this game some good. Like I said, I've never seen a game with such stoic and rigid players, even though the game is lively, colourful and just... great.

    Languages of europe:
      • Bulgarian
      • Croatian
      • Czech
      • Danish
      • Dutch
      • English
      • Estonian
      • Finnish
      • French
      • German
      • Greek
      • Hungarian
      • Irish
      • Italian
      • Latvian
      • Lithuanian
      • Maltese
      • Polish
      • Portuguese
      • Romanian
      • Slovak
      • Slovene / Slovenian
      • Spanish
      • Swedish

    • Perhaps it is that they either dont understand your language, or they dont 'get' your joke.
Remember that different cultures find different things funny, what amuses me might not amuse my Dutch or Swedish counterparts in my outfit for example. Europe is a very mixed bag of cultures.
    • Then theres people switching their chat channels to outfit or squad.
    • People turning it off completely and using teamspeak.
    • Or the fact that the chat window disappears completely by default so alot might miss what you say.

Also what you class as fun, others dont, ever heard the term 'fun is subjective' chatting **** on a game chat isnt my idea of fun tbh, especially when theres lots of killing to do instead. Maybe if im drunk or something ill chat some **** but mostly i just play the game and ignore the chat.

I think there is happy balance between gameplay chat and useless banter.

You can't go with strictly ...this is planetside, go to Facebook if you want to chat.. because you can't organize anything effectively. But then again, do you guys really want a military strict and by the books game? Some amount of light hearted joking is needed. It's part of the fun.

Part of the appeal in PS2 to me is the social aspect. The prox chat I hear sometimes is worrying. I hear some people get into murderous rages where they actually promise they will harm the other person because of some virtual accident/inconvenience the other person caused them.

I once got an essay long scolding from some guy because I TK'd him by accident. Don't we all TK by accident now and then? Case of misidentification, friendlies walk in front of you, we timed a shot wrong...etc it happens, it's Planetside. His final words were that I was being put on his ignore list because I was a low kill/death/ratio noob...I may just lose nights of sleep over that :(
  15. AtckAtck

Because nobody needs text chat or voice chat anyway.
Maybe it is because i am a european and german, but sadly i can only turn off the ingame voice and have to endure the totally mindnumbing chat consisting of raging insults and jokes of teens in puberty. So i try not to take a look at it at any time.

We all Play in Teams, Squads, Outfits. We all use Teamspeak, this is a MUST. If you are not on my Teamspeak Server, then this literally means you are nonexistant for me.
If i gun you down (tk) i wont say sorry, not because i am not sorry, only because i just will not waste time with quick voice, text chat or the "maybe today it is working?"-Voice-Chat.

Emerald players can have a great sense of humour. Sometimes when I die in a particularly inglorious manner, I'll ask my killer who will take care of my family now that I am dead. It always leads to a great conversation.

Don't worry if someone is being a sourpuss, they're just a bitter grouchbag who is not representative of the entire server.

    That or they're European.
  17. Colakold

The only thing that connects europe is the continent. We dont realy like each other here. The people in europe need the feeling to blame each other for everything.
  18. Vikingo

If you want social interaction and fun times in PS2 you need to join an outfit and spend time in teamspeak, thats where all us euros have fun.
  19. Meeka

Most of the good/friendly conversation is going on in squad chats, or between friendly rivals!

Me, I'm also usually chatting with people during my game stream... that's actually really fun. :) Though, next, I need to figure out how to include the chat directly in the game stream! So it doesn't sound like I'm talking to myself half the time, lol.
  20. InoxGecko

    Superiority complex much?

Oh you don't use TS, get away from me you peasant, you are not worthy of me noticing your existence.

What this guy said, it's true. Emerald is a fun server. Miller is just...No...
