Is there some story how places and weapons in the game got named? Most of the name are some ancient names, some of are even a bit obscure. Same thing goes for some weapons.
Bases and continents are named after mythology or theology. For example, Esamir has obvious Nordic inclinations. Edit: here's a list that includes all the original continents not yet implemented in Planetside 2. (Scroll down to Incompetent's post.)
