5.3 GB update on Steam?

I just started the game and was greeted with a 5.3 GB update on steam. That's basically the entire game needing to be downloaded again and with my connection, it'll take almost four hours so no game for me tonight. So why am I forced to download such a huge update? There's no news about it anywhere. Has Steam messed up? The game ran just fine a couple of hours ago when I last started it.

Me too. No idea what is going on. Just started downloading a 5.3GB update for me less than 10 minutes ago.

Correction: 4.8GB for me to be exact.

9.9GB for me. First time I've attempted to play today.

Yeah, I did fetch the LaunchPad but it still updated a 100mg :\

I'm validated the whole thing again just to make sure

inb4 after this forced update the launcher has to update 10 gigs again

i just got through a 7.5 gigabyte update, and now the launcher is "installing" the game

the installation process appears to have taken less than 5 minutes, and the latest news on the update is server maintenance Oct 21

I made a forums account just for this, same crap happened to me, 9.9gb here. Let me think of a reason why... maybe just for the sake of Steam integration? Maybe the launcher is now obsolete and it just launches the game directly through Steam?

It redownloaded the hole game while I was absent today and I was wondering why the game runs so smooth again, might be my imagination but I really feel like that did something. Now I got the 4.8GB as well though

5.5GB here, WTF SOE? Did some newbie pushed the big red Button or did consuela accidentally pulled a cable out while cleaning?!

Weird, but well, as long as it doesn't have to donwload everything again from the launcher I can deal with it.

To provide further information:

1) Played earlier today, about 6 hours ago, without problem.
2) The size of my patch is 4.8 GB.
3) It's downloading at an abysmal rate. I'm talking less than 500 KB/s here, when my normal speed exceeds 8 MB/s.

Do you guys think they released a new continent or something?

I dunno, maybe it is, maybe steam ****** something, either way it ruined my plans for today
