Things you can grudgingly admit are done better than PS1

Instead of vehicle variants, you can just change the loadout.
    ie. Liberator/Vulture, Mosquito/Wasp.

    Graphics.

Sorry #3 is pure ROFL. '

Maybe it's because I'm a real life pilot and alittle biased, but this game is light years away from being anything resembling flying.

    1. No stalls
    2. No "exceeding operating limitations on plane" ie: diving to fast then pulling up sharp, which should result in both wings snaping.
    3. No proper weight placed in the game for all aircraft. ie: Libs/Gals doing endless upside down loops....*rolls eyes.*
    3. 3rd person view.
    4. No proper cockpit view support (your telling me i have to switch to 3rd person view to follow a plane, because the game lacks proper view support for the pilot?...LOL)
    5. Going back to #3 why arent pilots locked into the cockpit and just take away 3rd person view?

So this game is wayyyy to arcady for my taste. Thats why all planes in this game are nothing but taxi cabs for me.

Im curious what otger combined arms game you know of that has higher level of realism on the points brought up. Im sure dedicated fkight sinulators are more accurate obviously.
  4. Camycamera

    SPAWN ROOMS.
  5. hawken is better

I would say that the Armistice still counts, but no one will dispute the fact that it gets out dpsed by all of the 845/143 weapons.

Pretty much everything was better in PS1. The metagame and depth was far better in PS1. PS2 is just a big deathmatch really.

Only thing I can think that I like better about PS2 is the ability to use different weapons on vehicles. But what I really hate about it, is that you can't change it without pulling a new vehicle. So stupid. PS1 had modular weapons on the BFR that could be swapped out. PS2 is a step backwards in almost everything. The graphics are better, yes, but that's about it.

If PS1 still had players and got a graphics update, I'd go back to that game in a heartbeat. I could produce a multi-page list of things that were better in PS1, but I'll spare you the details. If the PS2 devs actually played the game and talked to PS1 designers, it would be a much better game.

I miss the inventory system. So much better than the class system.

    WW2OL comes to mind.

    1. Proper flight models for all AC.
    2. Locked in cockpit view.
    3. Support for Track IR.
    4. Proper flight ceiling for planes to dogfight way above the clouds over the battlefield. Good stuff.

So instead you got constant login/server issues, unexplainable lag (at least EU has been suffering from this all the time), months of literally "no content" because they had to 'optimize' the game, a myriad of other problems which I can't even bother go into and the best as the last..

The wonderful privilege of getting to pay ten times the price of an overpriced console game's value just to be able to use the weapons in the game or choose to treadmill grind it because it's the only content they were able to implement IN A ******* YEAR.

I know right, and why is the Beamer the highest damage weapon (including vehicle weapons) in the entire game?! (Except for all the weapons with higher damage than it?) That seems really broken to me!

See how silly it is to arbitrarily exclude weapons when making sweeping generalizations?

So I agree with pretty much all of this, but a few other things to add
    -No surgile
-Far better job of funneling fights into larger battles. Small squad stuff isn't Planetside's strength.
-Not making the game significantly worse with every major content edition. Core Combat was awful. Poor maps, ziplines and further spread out the fight. Battle islands were ok, but also spread the fights further. BFRs were awful. The best time for PS1 was vanilla after a few exploit patches
-No do it all classes. No Rexo suits with a heavy weapon, AV weapon, med/armor guns. Every class is reliant on other characters.
-But every class doesn't have a set weakness. Sniping medic? Grab the SABR. Mixing it up in the front lines? TAR or SMG
-No surgile. I'd rather deal with what seems to be very infrequent hacking vs entire platoons of exploiters.
-Being able to try anything without an serious investment. Sunderer or MBT, Galaxy or HA. Yes if I want to be particularly good as something I have to cert into it, but there's no artificial barrier to the entry level positions.
-The lack of high level command abilities. Orbital and EMP strikes ultimately made the game worse.
-No surgile. Yes I know they 'fixed' it, but the game was never good with object prediction.
-No upfront purchase, no sub unless you choose. Yes I did choose to sub, but the f2p aspect got me back into it after not being impressed by the beta.

    -------------------

There's only two things I'd really like to see added from PS1 into 2 that I don't know they've stated their working on
-The ability to dedicated drive a MBT. Sorry, I can't walk and chew bubble gum in game evidently. Call me bad but it makes me miss tanks.
-Squad shared exp. Encourages better teamplay and vehicle integration better. When is the last time you've seen a 3/3 lib?

Like of the regular content PS1 got? BFR's were pretty cool though, right? Or how about pay a quarter of the value of a console game every 4 months, just to continue playing at all? Played PS1 for 3-4 months before giving it up. That is all.
  12. RaZz0R

I wish higby would just admit it - PS1 had so much more depth to it as a game then this shallow PS2 game does.

I wish to god they would just start putting things back in from PS1 - like an LLU run FFS! or mods from another set of caves? ACE tools - hacking vech's - perma cloak for hackers (Not snipers) - geez I could go on.

    oh yeah!

    Implants -

Audio amp (Replaced by sensor darts I guess)
    Surge
    Sensor shield
    Health regen
    personal shield

    so much missing
  14. KnightCole

Yeah, really...I played Il2 for awhile, and while its not RL, it certainly was more flyey then this game.

I always thought it was ******** how Libs and Gals can do acrobatic manuvers as well, and in some cases, better then the fighters.
  15. Nephera

vehicle physics, not having something as bad as BFRs...aircraft is balanced a little worse but much more interesting to pilot.

    uhhh

They made you less capable as an individual (gone is the combat engineering/heavy weapons/medic self-healing-and-repairing-anti-vehicle-specialist) which has advantages to it from a developer's perspective i guess (forces reliance on other classes a bit more).

edit: they also did alright on customizing weapons/cosmetics and added more tactical options for breaching rooms(flashbangs/conc nades) even though they want to reduce the effectiveness of them with implants now..
  16. Peebuddy

There aren't any god damn interlinks in PS2!! Thank Christ, I'm all for defensive positions but interlinks were just doorway camping for 6 hours while you wait for the NTU silo to reach zero.

Though I do miss siege mechanics, wish they brought back NTU power back to facilities

I also love PS2s large selection of guns to choose from and the lower TTK, PS1 took forever to kill someone and had like 3 guns to choose from.

Flying in this game is so fun, not like in BF4 or Arma where the same elitist ******** get dibs on the jets otherwise you get banned form the server. Anyone can pull what ever they like!
  17. DemonicSpoon

While I don't like what F2P did to cert mechanics in PS2, PS2 does a way better job of providing base options. In PS1, certain cert-intensive things (like self-repairs and a ReXo if I'm remembering that right) were incredibly important for infantry fights, and low BR people just didn't have the certs to easily get them. You had to specifically cert into any kind of AV weapon, which wasn't cheap - if you didn't have one, you pretty much just had to hide from vehicles.

I like the idea of resources in PS2 (though they're not very well implemented yet). Timer-only restrictions meant that vehicles were often completely disposable.
  18. CommodoreFrank

PS2 finally allowed me to fulfill my dream of putting shotguns on everything.
  19. Axehilt

I dunno, while surgile warping was definitely awful the fact that there was an alternative to rexo was fantastic (I almost never ran rexo as a result.) While you could argue my LA SPM is higher than my HA SPM, in serious PS2 fights the class is really lacking and it comes down to everyone being MAXes, hunting MAXes (HA), or being the troops supporting either (med/eng)...oh yeah and a token infil who just sits and darts all game.

So I guess I'd argue HA is the "do it all" class and that has hurt PS2's class balance (well..once you get past the even bigger imbalance of MAXes being completely overpowered, that is.)

But I agree with most of your list too, especially the idea that MBTs should've been more like PS1.

The goal of PS2 was to release BF: Auraxis at the start, and then start building it into Planetside's sequel.

We are through the first part of that, and starting on the building. When we get to a point where the two have more in common, I will render my opinion. As of now:

I enjoy the shooting mechanics, the flying is better, and accessibility.

Shooting: The character movement is better, visual cues on movement direction and whatnot are better, weapons are balanced to have roles while not be totally useless beyond what they are made to do, and I have better feedback on my shots. The TTK is short, but with combat being so unforgiving, it doesn't draw out wins or losses. If I loose a fight, I instantly get back into the fight, and have had a few seconds to evaluate what I did wrong.

Accessibility: People don't like that you can do everything in Ps2 as much, but I think it's pretty much a good thing. Logging onto PS1 always bugged me: "Okay I need a Sunderer for us to get to the next base... why can't I drive anything?" "Because we haven't certed into it" "Okay, well lets do that then" "Well, I'll have to reconfigure my character, this will take a moment.. oh, but now I can't use heavy armor" "What? Why can't you have both" "because I don't have enough points" "...Okay fine, just... get us to this next base... Oh... look, bombers, FML" Having the ability to just Get the things you need makes it so much easier to deal with situations as they come up. And, for everything I heard people say about how PS1 had short TTK, and very few insta-kills... I died an untold number of times, because everytime I ran into Anything, it would pound me into the ground as if it were wielding the somewhat impatient fist of god, while I returned fire with something only slightly more powerful than an automatic Beebee gun. New players in PS2 can kill me just as easily as I can kill them, and the starting equipment is some of the best you can get your hands on. Further, not having artificial restraints on equipment and vehicles you can pull, can mean much more interesting situations, where you just don't Know what you are about to deal with.
