[Suggestion] We Should Have Bombers

+1, would love to see bombers make a reappearance.
Gunship should've been a role left for the Galaxy from the get go, but alas we have Liberators with tank cannons on them.

The Liberators were great fun in PlanetSide 1, bomber only had a 90 degree arc straight down and up towards the nose gun so you could sort of 'fling' bombs forward, or focus your payload onto a certain target. But thats all the gunner had, was that up and down arc, the driver had to line up the path (YAY FOR TEAM WORK). The driver could also strafe left or right to deviate the trajectory of the bombs slightly, the driver also couldn't turn too hard (had to maintain a steady -10 degree, 0 degree, 10 degree flight path) otherwise the bomber wasn't able to drop bombs (which I would like to see be applied to our current Liberators, I see far too many lib teams that are near untouchable because they smack pursuing aircraft right out of the sky on Connery, I don't care how difficult people say it is to do, high skill ceiling doesn't make something not broken.) Only given 10 bombs per load (or even 5 like the Vulture). Liberators as is hardly feel like I need to communicate with my gunner to rack in a ton of exp, just fly over area and let him go to town, ESF flies after me? Belly up and Dalton it..

Oh and those saying there's no way to react.. In PS1 the bombs showed up on radar (and the direction the bomb was heading too), and you had to be a certain height. They also made this really loud whistle that was heard far from their actual time of impact. If you died to a bomb, it most likely was your own fault. They were fairly easy to take down, and dodging bombs was plenty easy if you have good situational awareness. These things didn't have a huge explosion radius either..

I'd like to see a smaller than current lib, bomber, about in between ESF's/Libs in health & size, and acted like Libs in PlanetSide 1 did.

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot.

I'm out. Have your doomsday weapon, but don't come crying when you're sick of dying for no reason.
  3. Ronin Oni

    Not in PS2 there isn't.
  4. DeadlyShoe

@Ronin Oni- I thought the devs had posted something about scrapping bombers but wasn't sure if I remembered correctly. Good to know.

P.S. the most unworkable aspect of this is travel time and render distance issues.

do you know why you rarely see liberators at the flight ceiling?

    - they can't see infantry
    - they can't hit armor
    - the only thing they are effective against is deployed sunderers (but not the infantry around them)
  5. Tycoh

Yes because almost every other decision that SOE has made players jump with joy and awe as they gaze in wonder and amazement of how well balanced and amazingly creative this game is. This game is filled with so much variety that it surpasses Battlefield and Arma combined. /sarcasm
  6. TheShrapnelKing

Real mature. I'm not crying: remember, I'm the infantryman and I realize what would happen to be if this was implemented. But unlike some people, I care more about the overall design than if my playstyle is catered to. It's also not a doomsday weapon.

As far as i know, there is no such limitation in PS2.

Your ability to spawn a vehicle (or mines, or MAXes, or whatever) doesn't depend on how many your allies have already spawned.

So introducing this mechanism for the bomber would be a novelty.
  8. Ronin Oni

render issue is actually a technical limitation against bombers since you mention it.

They'd have to fly at <300m above ground level just like Libs do already anyways.

@Pro-Bomber posters: 1man bombers would be CRAZY OP. 2man bombers would be boring for the "gunner"... and still either OP or pointless (either Zephyr/Dalton would be preferred if roughly the same, if much more powerful absurdly OP)

Zephyr's perform the role you're asking for. and who the hell hover spams anymore? You're asking to get taken out. I never stop moving and keep above 90% max speed at all times.
  9. Tycoh

They're going to be adding the Colossus tank into the game that is restricted only to Alerts, but that was just a single tiwtter post barely 3 days ago. How is this any different?

    http://angryjoeshow.com/ajsa/topic/12603-new-ns-colossus-tank/

And you think a simple galaxy bomber will be overpowered?
  10. TheShrapnelKing

I don't want the Lib to have Zephyrs/Daltons anyway, as I already stated. I want them to be like helicopter gunships.

How is it OP? You're a bigass easy target who is entirely dependent on friendly ESFs or enemy incompetence to survive. You have to return to base frequently to get more bombs. Your consolation is your bombs are the single most powerful ordinance in the game and therefore wreck ****. This isn't OP, it's powerful and vulnerable.
  11. FABIIK

I don't know. Never heard/read about this Colossus thing. :)

    I guess they haven't given details concerning spawning/limitations ?
  12. Rentago

you mean you want planetside's liberators?

I don't see why not, they could simply make it an alternative weapon to the guns, much like how they shove all these weapons on the ESF.

look no further than to the first game to solve all your problems of the second.

I should add that, because of their current system which is:

"You can't hurt what you can't see"

Carpet bombing wouldnt be done from high altitudes, would require you to fly low enough to render infantry and such. I don't think it would be over powered, but since all these based have no basement or inner workings, they are similar to just having fish in a barrel and you'd be doing the fishing with TNT.

Like I can imagine having a platoon of liberators fly over to a tower and just poop bombs on it constantly, so long as they got that galaxy restocking ammo in the sky I don't think people could walk outside safely. I can see problems with it, but these problems stem from bad design philosophy from the developers. I'd rather force the developers into fixing these glaring issues rather than simply say, "WE SHOULDNT ADD MORE THINGS BECAUSE THAT WOULD MAKE US HAVE TO DESIGN THINGS BETTER"

Why would you cut them slack?

  13. Felkuro

no. carpet bombers worst idea ever >.< this is in the same league as that idiot that proposed infantry seeking missiles on the ESF XD
  14. Tycoh

Edited the post for ya. Its seriously impossible to add a limit to spawning thing in a game that they're developing? I'd find that problematic if the development team was unable change its own game mechanics.
  15. Tycoh

How is a carpet bomber worse than a infantry seeking ESF missle? Isn't that what lolpods + thermal vision are for?
  16. Felkuro

As I said if you were reading. maybe you weren't its in the same league in terms of stupidity.
  17. DeadlyShoe

We have no idea how the colossus will work. My thoughts are that it will be tied to alerts. Escort Colossus tanks from Tech Plants to (enemy?) Warpgates, whoever escorts the most tanks successfully wins, something like that.

it's not that it's technically impossible, it's that it's adding a new arbitrary mechanic for no reason than to make 'annoyance hurdles' for something that is otherwise OP.

It's bad practice, bad game design, and it doesn't rein in OPness, it just limits its impact.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO JETS IN BF3!
  18. FABIIK

Let me be clear. I'd love the game to have COMMON POOL resource system. This way, the most populated faction wouldn't necessarily be able to field more vehicles than the opposition.

I just know that this is not a very popular system, because every player wants to have his own MBT/aircraft.

I want restrictions if they make gameplay better. Most people don't...

It's lame to be engaged in a race to get vehicles out, it's one of the advantages of this game over say battlefield.

there's other ways to do it, like making a purely timer based system where the timers vary with continent pop etc.
  20. Tycoh

*bashes repeatedly on the invisible thumbs down button*

If you want a common pool resource system, they'll need to add a harvesting system too so players can boost up their factions economy by getting, i guess, auraxium to nearby facilities.Hell i wouldn't mind farming up certs in a sundy auraxium harvester, Command and Conquer havester style.

But knowing SOE i doubt they'd be able to do either a galaxy bomber or a common pool res system that we'd like.
