What GPU do I need to never drop below 60fps on ultra?

I have no knowledge on computers sorry :( but why is 690 faster then 770 isn't 770 newer

Simply put, newer doesn't always mean faster, newer products can have other benefits, such as being cheaper, consuming less power, supporting newer technologies, etc.

The 690 is the fastest (and most expensive) card from the last generation, while 770 is the "middle budget" card from the newest generation.

Performance wise, GTX 760 is similar to GTX 670, 770 is similar to 680, 780 and Titan top those, and then 690 tops everything else.
This is because 690 uses something like a dual-GPU. It's like having two 680's with SLI, except you have just one card.

You can expect a dual-GPU version of the 700 series to come out, like 790 for example, which will then most likely trump everything else.

If Planetside 2 is going to be your only game, may as well buy another Nvidia since they're on each others ***** like ****** in a ****** ****. **********starstarstar.

Oh man I was so close to buy a 760 to replace my 670 thank god I came in this thread lol

Using an R290X, get 200'ish fps at sanc and somewhere around 80 in a biofarm.

You can see GTX 670 is a tad bit faster than the GTX 760, but the difference is minimal. I would say the 760 is better if you have no card or a really old one and need an upgrade, because of being newer generation and having the newer technology available, but if you already have a 670, there is practically NO REASON to get a 760.

    You're welcome :)

I'm getting silky smooth 60-90 fps on ultra with shadows off using a 2500k at 4.4ghz and stock hd 7970
  8. Ganelon

780ti is the fastest card on the market right now...
  9. TeknoBug

I seem to be consistent with 60fps+ vsync turned on with my system in the sig after the update, haven't tried it on my AMD system yet.

    Oh yeah it's an R9 280X but CPU-z says it's a 7970.

I have a slightly oc'd 660ti and i never drop below 60 with the latest patch! I wouldnt waste ya money on anything more xpensive than a low end 770

Any GPU that costs you over $500 USD.

OR you can just get the next-gen consoles and call it a day.

Personally, that's what I'm going to do next. I'm tired of having to upgrade my PC every 2 years just to play the latest PC game.

I have a GTX670 and I never drop bellow 60, in fact most of the time in battle it's at 85. I do have shadows turned off, but that's because I'd rather see that enemy than not see them hiding in the shadows...

I'm running a 690 on Ultra. All maxed graphics even before OMFG. Unless it is a huge 3 PLT vs 3 PLT battle, I never drop below 60 fps.

    Albeit, I'm also running an OC'd i7 3770k.
  14. MallowChunkage

You really shouldn't be trying to run on ultra with a 710M, you should be running lowest. I'm GPU bound on medium at 1080p with the 650M and it's a fair step up from a 710M.

    I couldn't edit my previous post. I have a GTX 680. Not 780.

You need to state what resolution your using, 2560 x 1600 requires much more than 1280 x 800. Also what your LCD is capable of, 60 or 120 FPS?

Well if there is already a hardware thread going with some very informed guys I just ask you :)

    Atm. I got i5-2500k slightly OC'd to 3.5 GHZ, Radeon 6850 1gb from saphire, 8gb ram pc-1300 and a 128gb ssd and 100 Hz screen.

Resolution I use is 1920x1080, I'm more after pure performance upgrades, I don't care much about eyecandy in multiplayer.

Got about 750$ to burn on PC upgrades, what do forumside?

    I like your name.
