Since those Vehicles should be huge targets of interests ... for both the guys that try to defend and the guys that want to blow it up. It should be durable.

It should have point defense but nothing to strong that actually makes things like Tanks obsolete and it should actually be limited in numbers if it is such a high value target, if you can spam them just like you could PS1 Ants or every Vehicle we have right now ... were is the point in defending it and not just spam 30 of them ... one might break through you know.

When I'm think about all that ... The Goliath from BF2142 comes to mind, AI point defense and a "usable" AV weapon ... beefy health and selfrepairing until it's generators have been destroyed.

I would say that if there were any weaponry added to it, it would have to be only one gun. Make the vehicle a two seater like the flash. Give it the same armor type like that of the sundie. Make the one weapon be common pool weapons (i.e. basalisk(sp), Kobalt, Halberd) and that be it. It HAS to be kept as a resource transport...adding guns and personnel to it will just break the mechanics of the vehicle and what it is actually supposed to do. Deliver Resources.

If anything, make the extra seats like that from the old stage coaches in the old west. You have a guy just sitting on top, no cover or anything, but he can fire his weapon.

I'd rather they went the way of a Sundy though than the way of a Harasser ..

Depends how it actually works TBH , But yeah a dynamic XP system would be better, that's based on how much you " recharge " an outpost.

Just thought I'd add a suggestion.

Make it about as armored as a harasser (including it's light vulnerability to small arms fire). Speed and handling of a sunderer. 25% longer than a sunderer and about as wide/tall.
2 seats, no guns. 1 load can refuel 1 biolab/tech plant/amp station sized base to full. Tower sized bases fill and use about half of the stores. Small bases use 1/4.

Exp is rewarded based on these numbers. Everyone at a base that is refueled will get 10xp x %expended from fuel tank. So for example a resource empty tower would use half the resources the ANT provides. Everyone in the area would gain 500xp. Driver would gain an additional 50% so 750xp. Large bases 1kxp for all and 1.5kxp for driver etc. This means that you can refuel multiple smaller bases up to one large base.

Now here is the fun part. The ANT would have an unlockable module which is a SUPER SHIELD! Completely impervious to all damage... however... it's use comes at a cost... literally.

The shield costs 1% of fuel to activate and 1% fuel every 10 seconds it remains active. Also, every 1000 points of damage done to the shield expends an additional 1% of that oh so precious cargo that you are trying so hard to get to the troops.

Enemies gain xp equivalent to surface to air xp rewards while shooting at the ANT and depending on how much fuel is left in it when it explodes lots LOTS more xp for the kill.

This would make it easier to support bases nearby mining stations but the further you have to travel the less fuel you might have to supply the troops with. The 'thinned out supply line' effect if you will.

Another small note, blockade armor certs that give an equivalent boost to armor as the sunderer's unlock does and significantly raises resistance to small arms fire.

Anyway. That's my suggestion. I feel it would make for an interesting dynamic that would encourage proper convoying and a risk vs reward dynamic as well.

This vehicle could also be used as a really crappy blockade runner that can transport A WHOLE 2 TROOPS behind enemy lines :p

Before I even read the OP (just the title) I imagined a V-plow on the front of the vehicle.
Seems Eskimo and I were thinking alike.

I think a plow on the front that is either invincible or highly resistant might be ok, if the vehicle is slow to turn (only foolish or careless vehicles get plowed through). Meaning if the plow is hit, the vehicle takes little to no damage. The plow and the vehicle's actual front would be separate hit-boxes. The 'actual' front would have an armor value akin to tank fronts. This is how I imagine it.

I don't agree with the insta-gibbing of all vehicles, though. Flash? sure... but anything other than that should not be.
In my mind, full-health Harassers should survive a plow ram (barely), unless they get wedged completely and keep getting pushed.

It should look like the harvesters in C&C except with bulldozer blades and mine flails in every direction and six anti-matter particle cannons with 10000 muzzle velocity. Or a locomotive with a cowcatcher.
  7. FallenArchon

The picture above is what it needs to be period and the only weapon option I would have is one manned turret and multiple hot seats like the Quad, buggy thinking

manned turret above driver sunderer weapons
max hot seat 360 on back
4 troop hot seats 2 on ethier side

added plow plate at the front looks everyone is suggesting plus if this thing is going to be escort it HAS to be base equal speed to the slowest vehicle in game so that vehicles can keep up.

Now the shield idea is good NC shield but keep it to adding a base HP shield that can be taken down along with using it consumes the transport power storage so it's a desperate situation us, not a free ticket to base.

    Guys, guys, wait.
Can anyone name any actual reason why it can't be just Sunderer utility? It seems to be the most logical and simple solution, at least from my point of view.

The sunderer model is already used I want a different silhouette along with the sunderer having to many roles already

One thing I think they shouldn't do is make the transport visible on the map at all times.

You kind of eliminate a a bit of 'meta' by doing that, versus creating a need for aircraft and such to patrol areas around a facility under attack to intercept incoming resources.

Resource runners should be able to utilize some stealth when transporting.

Hm, a critically important logistics vehicle moving from a known point A towards a known point B?

Charge up your Lancers and AV turrets and sit at max render range, people.

Because that's boring. In addition, you'd have to adjust the resource cost of the sundy for this job, and its armor. This change gives PS a chance to add some more flavour, not to mention making balancing easier.

EliteEskimo, maybe you should've emphasized on the point that it cannot carry any Anti-Vehicle guns. A lot of people seem to miss that point and are afraid it will turn it into a monster making the tank obsolete. I agree with all points.
  14. FallenArchon

    Totally agree.

This explains all, after all Malorn asked us that in case they were to make a brand new vehicle if we could provide some feedback on making it more entertaining than being just a space truck, so this whole thread is more than legit!

    @Codeak funny outfit :D
  16. FallenArchon

Yeah it's going to be a problem to work out but the you have a forward force to take out such nests.
  17. HerpTheDerp

    Cool thread bro.

But it's going to just be an unlock for the Sunderer.
  18. Stingrayl

Is the trunk of this vehicle a special hidden pokemon entrance ?

Okay, so I'm seeing both sides of the "it should have lots of guns" argument. It should be fun to ride in, of course, and since it'll be the target of tons of attention it needs to be able to defend itself competently (not just with escorts). On the other hand, you want to prevent a situation where it's basically a better MBT and gets used as a mobile infantry-farming bunker.

My suggestion: Give it only one turret. But then give it a bunch of rumble seats (that actually face in useful directions and have some cover for the rumbler). Rumble seats are MAX-capable.

The idea is that you can still ride in the ANT and defend it, but you're putting yourself at risk by doing so. It's fun, and if you're doing an ANT run will be necessary to gun down stray C-4 LA's. On top of that, the rumble seats will encourage people to stick with the ANT and allow infantry to keep up. But, if you tried to use this thing like a main battle tank, you're not going to be able to farm infantry all day before your rumblers end up dead.

Farmers care about their K/D ratio, so they're not going to farm in a rumble seat. The MBT will be better suited to that kind of thing. But we still get to give the ANT some firepower. Best of both worlds.

Silhouette can be changed with visible additions such as v-plow. And "too many roles", seriously? It's practically only AMS and very rarely actual transport. Yes, there are repair and resupply certifications, but they are just additions and not something that defines playstyle.
Many people said that having AMS and transport to be one vehicle is boring and having all fighters empire specific is boring and having classes is boring and so on.
Why do you think it's boring? Having slight variations of one vehicle is practically the same as having vehicles that are slightly different.* And I don't see a lot of suggestions here that seriously differentiate Ant from a Sunderer.
"Adjust resource cost"... The entire resource system will be redone, there will be adjustments everywhere.
And it won't make balancing any easier - sunderer is already balanced. Having additional vehicle will make balancing harder, not easier. And even if you need Sunderer to be slightly different when it's Ant - you can make this difference part of Ant-certification.

*Actually it's not, because you have to cert and buy everything all over again. Guess, how many people will say "moneygrab". A lot.
