NC Max Riot Shield

    I haven‘t tried it yet but looks like it could use a bit more absorb value at max level and allow you to reload
    anyway even if it goes live as it is right now they will sure tweak it if its that bad, the shield concept itself is cool, it will be cool :D

    Did some testing against a TR Max and Heavy

    Shield Life Time
    TR Max standard duel Mercy - 4 SEC 50 rounds
    TR Max Lockdown duel Mercy - 3 SEC 50 rounds
    TR Heavy T9 Carv - only took 30 rounds
    TR Repeater - 2 clips

    Double the HP and give it a 10% damage resistance.

    The nc max shield is imo far too weak right now (26 gssaw shot or 1 rocket) there is no reason to equip it over the charge function. Imo it should be switched to a 10second invulnerbility shield this would allow for proper use of the shield in squad play

    Lets just discuss their functional values since we all know the actual stats will change.

    Lockdown
    - Increased Fire Rate
    - Increased Reload Speed
    - Increased Projectile Velocity
    - Stationary

    I think everyone can easily grasp the benefits and drawbacks of this in most situations.

    It's useful for nearly every loadout, Bursters for AA, AV would be dangerous if used inappropriately, and pretty spectacular in groups for AI defense, while near worthless when on the assault unless defending already taken ground. Weakness being rockets, C4, AV grenades, so could really use support from squad/s, engineers, flak armor, coordination.

    Shield
    - Frontal Shield
    - Can't fire, or reload, slow walk

    AA has no use for it practically. Nor does AV.

    So what's left is Anti-Infantry. It's counterproductive on point defense because the whole point of the shotguns are to instantly blast off the face of people peeking their heads around the doorways. With the shield up you can't shoot, and the activation/deactivation is to long to react to strike back/defend. You can't defend yourself if someone tosses a block of C4 in from around the corner, and the shield doesn't block it currently as it's still a 1 hit kill even with your shield in front of you and it. So as much of a danger a LA with C4 is to a Lockdowned TR MAX it's almost even more so to a Shielded up NC MAX. Also it's not a good ability for retreat/defense after unloading your clip since you cannot reload while the Shield is up either and would have to slowly walk backwards...

    Offense. This is the only place the shield could have a practical use. And then it would only be with a coordinated group. NC MAX with just an engineer it would be pretty worthless. A HA could peek around a doorway and toss AV grenades or fire rockets with their own shield up, so what would be the point of peeking around a briefly Shielded up MAX instead? And it will be briefly when going around a doorway versus a room of enemies. Even with one enemy TR MAX on Lockdown the Shield drops fast, before crossing half the distance of a very small room. While with Charge that same NC MAX could clear the whole room and be behind that same TR MAX, with minimal damage, and in his blind spot. With the Shield up you can't peek around that doorway and fire in yourself, so you're almost committed to just lumber in. So what? You soak up a few of the enemies rockets or a few bullets out of their magazines? Is it a war of attrition then? Waste their ammo so your friendlies can finish them off?


    So beyond being meatshields walking single file through small building doorways to absorb a few extra rounds out of enemies clips before being put down, what tactical uses are so great that outweigh it having practically no use for any loadouts whatsoever and being totally worthless unless in a coordinated squad?

    *Edit*

    If it allowed the other arm to still fire and reload, then it would be useful. We would gain extra defenses at the cost of firepower, opposite the TR and VS MAX abilities. This would allow it to be a polar opposite to Charge basically. Charge to retreat quickly, or rush in to instagib as many enemies as possible, or you know, sacrifice our instagibbing that the other factions sure seem to hate so much for more defense.

    Yup.

    The shield needs to allow reloads (this is actually the only genuinely totally useful ability for the shield if it could).

    It needs to have increase coverage (so it covers the MAXs feet and from abvoe Air attacks at the very least).

    There was also an interesting idea about allowing 1 weapon to fire through it, although even with that it probably needs to be a bit stronger, with no weapons firing then it needs to be a LOT stronger than it currently is.

    So my C4 can take out a couple at a time, I like your style!

    But seriously, if you want to start talking about group play I'd certainly perfer to have 6 scat MAXs with 6 engineers behind them and a couple die. Then have 6 MAX's have riot shield and kill no one, all while the enemy sets up a C4 train on all our *****.

    In PS2 the best defense is a good offense.

    The NC got seriously screwed with our Max ability. The TR's makes the Burster way to powerful (just one Max can take out an ESF in a couple seconds) and the AT aspects as well (2 Maxes can take out a Sunderer in a couple seconds). This shield is weak, makes the Max a slow moving C4 wielder's dream, and has no offensive capabilities (at lease let the Max melee with the shield).

    Yeah, this shield offers no upside and has tremendous downsides. Every MAX pilot in my outfit agrees that they won't spend a single cert on this sprint downgrade.

    The only way I could see this being useful is allowing the user to fire with at least one gun.

    So far the shield needs:

    -More health
    -Reduced time to deactivate. The current activate speed is fine so people don't just "turtle" by using the guns then immediately bringing up the shield.
    -Increased movement speed. Maybe let you run while the shield is up? Okay maybe it doesn't need this but it would be nice.

    No letting you use a gun on one arm while the shield is up. That's especially OP on an NC MAX.

    Not sure about letting you reload while the shield is up, since if the devs do reduce the activation/deactivation times that would make a shotgun MAX near invincible on anti-infantry with no downtime.


    What would be nice is if you can deploy the Riot Shield. Someone earlier was talking about how the NC MAX's Riot Shield doesn't benefit AA/AV capabilities as much as TR/VS. I think being able to deploy a shield to advance the front line or create artificial cover would be a nice defensive boost for AA/AV, assuming the shield has a large increase in defense when deployed.

    Edit: Just noticed they added a slot in the riot shield. Now it would REALLY be nice to be able to be deployed.

    Riot shields just got an update today, its a bit bigger in size and theres a lil view window up top but I couldn't get anyone to stay around and test out if the damage absorption changed. Also the sparrow has been tuned to 250 damage a rocket with a starting clip of 5 (9 with extended). Takes 10-11 shots to kill a max, 4 to kill infantry now

    The Riot Shield is amazing. It adds a tactical option that is absolutely unique and extremely powerful for breaching rooms and increasing survivability. There needs to be more tools like this that offer tactical, teambased options like this available to everyone.

    The complainers simply aren't thinking about the teamwork options.

    No, complainers realize that you can do the exact same thing with charge and actually clear the room before the rest of your teams gets in. There is nothing "tactical" about riot shield because you can do the same thing without it. The very thing that actually destroy MAX (C4) doesn't actually care about riot shield.

    No reason to pick that over charge really if it takes 4 phobos hits to take it down it will only last mere seconds
