I've not tried 3+ but you can definitely spawn 2 vehicles and use both.

Attacking OR defending the crown is a massive exp/kill fest. So yes, that does explain why people camp the crown.
Probably just insane lag, like how it sometimes seems like people are shooting through walls and so on. That was pretty extreme though...
