1,000 Certs for Only 30 More Ammo!?

You Devs got to be kidding right? I thought maybe it was like this months ago because it was Beta. Then I thought as we got closer to final release that it was just a place holder. But now... do you guys are really want to add more fuel to the fire that this game is starting to become a quick money grab?

    • 1,000 certs for only 3% Composite Armor increase
    • 1,000 certs for only 3% Reload Speed increase
    • 1,330 certs total for only 1sec increase lock-on time, did you guys actually use a real Stop Watch to test this???
There are so many others like the above that have ridiculous certs cost/scaling.

The person that thought of these crazy cert costs/scale really needs to be plucked in the forehead. The increasing cost of certs does not make any sense. I was giving you guys the benefit of the doubt during Beta, but now... what's the deal? o_O

If you guys are just trying to add filler (having players grind) in place of actual (lack) of content, I'm sure you can do better than this. There were so many great ideas for content during beta that could have been used. Please take it from a very diehard fan of PS2 (currently BR 30), these silly cert scales is not the way.

Oh shoot, my alarm just went off... time for me to go buy another 7 day XP Booster...

Calm the F down. The costs for the top rank certs are there to provide some benefit to players who stick around and play the game over a long period of time. You're not meant to be able to unlock everything and have an absolutely maxed out character in a month. Those final ranks are completely unnecessary and will not make a noticeable impact on the battle, but do provide some benefit for players who only care to specialize in a single class over a long period of time.

Those big cert costs things are sort of like "endgame" stuff.

They're super minor increases meant for you to buy when you're got certs to blow.

For now you're supposed to be filling out stuff that is cheaper.

Don't purchase it. If your like me though at the end of the first year of PS2 I will have 50k certs laying around and it wont be any big deal.
  5. NEsta

I can only agree, holy moly some stupid cert prices they have on some things.

    QQ more. No one cares.

Someone has never heard of diminishing returns, have they?

Its there to encourage you to spread out your certs, while still providing small, but present boosts to benefit those that go all in.
  8. Reizod

That part bolded above: It Should! No smart gamer in their right mind will spend 1,000 certs for the things I've listed in my previous post. So why even have it there? It's filler. It should make a noticeable difference.

You're that guy at the party that has to enlighten everyone on life lessons that we already know.

Stop making excuses for the Devs... as this is something the clearly doesn't make sense. But thanks for your Defense Lawyer reply. I'm sure we can make a reasonable case for anything the Devs does right?

You absolute whiner. You get 80% of the cert's power (4 out of 5 ranks) for 500 certs. And EVEN THEN the cert usually provides a MINOR difference (my sunderer is able to withstand 12% more damage, aka one more rocket).
  10. Adeon Hawkwood

It's not filler, it's a way of differentiating between the generalist and the specialist. Most players will spread their certs around spending them on multiple different classes and vehicles depending on their preferences and giving them lots of different options for different situations.

But some people don't want to do that, they want to do the same thing all the time and be as good at it as they possibly can. The developers recognize that and that is why the ultra-high cost low-benefit certs exist. They provide the specialist player with something to work towards and eventually become slightly more powerful than the generalist player without unbalancing the game in favor of the specialist.

It's actually a pretty sensible game design option. It gives both generalists and specialists different things to aim for which in turn will encourage them to keep playing.

I'll be buying the 1k cert for blockade armor and the one for health.

    Hi. Go look at Eve.

The problem with growth where you get a proportionate upgrade for certs spent is that it creates giant gaps between new and old players. This is the problem.

Basically, it's high-cost to finally max something out, but that's because without that, certs would have to cost a lot more across the board (taking longer to get the first couple ranks to at least help flesh out all of your specs that you use) OR there would have to be proportionally as good for their cost (wrecking the game).

Yeah. That would go over well. There's already enough of a gap by someone just having an optic and suit upgrade over a new player. The goal of the game is not to allow people to continuously gain power the longer they play the game. This is just a perk for people that have been around a while.

Making excuses for the devs? Why don't you actually use that squishy thing in your skull? If you already know this then you shouldn't have to ask. No, it's not going to be noticeable in a big fight. Why have it? Why not have it? I already explained why it's there, but that obviously isn't a good enough answer for you to grasp.

The developers added those ranks for this specific reason, feel free to search back through their twitter posts if you think they're just idiots for having it there and you don't believe me. Or be lazy and don't and continue to try and insult me more and look like a fool.

    BR 30? After a week?

You are the exact reason the cert scale is the way it is. The devs don't want the person who obviously has little else on his plate to gain a significant play advantage over those with spouse/kids/friends/mortgage payments that restrict their play time.

What do you want? Your obvious goal is to give yourself advantages over players who don't play as much, but at what rate would you be satisfied? Would you be happy with being 10% better than a new player after one week? 20% after two? After a couple months, when you've hit BR 100, do you expect to be able to deflect bullets with your mind and have one-hit burps that clear out bases? Just how much of a statistical advantage do you believe you should get over new players? Then, ask yourself why anyone would want to play this game with people like you by January.

This is simply proving something I've been thinking for some time:

Of the MMO personality types, PS2 is hell for diamonds.

It has the social teamwork aspect for hearts.
It has the competitive PvP aspect for clubs.
It even has a bit of the exploration aspect for spades (anyone ever see those nice waterfalls on Amerish?)

But diamonds? They get it rough. The game is built to assume that nobody is going to get every cert, even those that pay to get every single weapon.

I agree that the price does seem a bit high but I think over time it's going to become less of an issue. If you play long enough you'll eventually probably have thousands of certs you never spent. Unless of course SOE decided to add more cert abilities.

I would like to have a final rank of a cert either be something special or just make them the same cost across the board. I'm not sure why the first 5% should cost 100 and the last 5% should cost 1000?

So, the upgrade is expensive and insigficant?
What is the problem then, you dont need to buy it, and those who buy it will not have a noticable advantage over you.

I believe the point he's trying to get across is they put a sort of 'fake' progression into the game in that it's a huge grind for nothing, not even visual appeal like mmo's have with vanity items. It's basically a cop out, and he's right. They must have ran out of ideas at some point and said "screw it, no other game has big fps battles like this so that will be enough".
