How to turn Enable Ultra settings.

    you do this at your own risk, any crash or performance issue you have as a result of these settings are your fault not SOE, since these are unassailable in-game.

    "I do not know if this is allowed, but i feel that it is, my logic being that since we alter this file already with the use of ingame options, this method of changing them should be ok"

    A side note, if you are able to use GPU physics(alot cant atm due to some driver issue) and are using it now be aware that if you change to ultra high res textures while GPU physics are enabled the game may instantly crash, turning off gpu physics solves this.

    goto: C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2
    search for: UserOption.ini
    change the following.

    [Rendering]
    VSync=1
    OverallQuality=-1
    GraphicsQuality=4
    TextureQuality=0
    ShadowQuality=4
    LightingQuality=4
    FogShadowsEnable=1
    EffectsQuality=4
    TerrainQuality=4
    FloraQuality=4
    ModelQuality=4
    ParticleLOD=4
    MotionBlur=1
    AO=1
    RenderDistance=-1.000000
    Gamma=0.490000
    MaximumFPS=250
    GpuPhysics=1

    Nice to know. Now as soon as the game is stable I may try this.
  4. freehotdawgz

    Thanks for the info, I'll definitely have to try this out. I was hoping someone would make a "how to tweak for better graphics" instead of better performance topic.
  5. BR4DDERS

    [Rendering]
    VSync=1
    OverallQuality=-1
    GraphicsQuality=4
    TextureQuality=0
    ShadowQuality=4
    LightingQuality=4
    FogShadowsEnable=1
    EffectsQuality=4
    TerrainQuality=4
    FloraQuality=4
    ModelQuality=4
    ParticleLOD=4
    MotionBlur=1
    AO=1
    RenderDistance=-1.000000
    Gamma=0.490000
    MaximumFPS=250
    GpuPhysics=1

    I don't think changing these settings to 4 has any effect. Changing "OverallQuality=-1" to 4 enables the Ultra preset, the only difference between the High preset, is that it enables Ultra Textures (TextureQuality=0) and enables Motion Blur + Fog Shadows.

    It sets the User.ini like this,

    [Rendering]
    VSync=1
    OverallQuality=4
    GraphicsQuality=3
    TextureQuality=0
    ShadowQuality=3
    LightingQuality=2
    FogShadowsEnable=1
    EffectsQuality=3
    TerrainQuality=3
    FloraQuality=3
    ModelQuality=3
    ParticleLOD=2
    MotionBlur=1
    AO=1
    RenderDistance=-1.000000
    Gamma=0.490000
    MaximumFPS=250
    GpuPhysics=1

    You can set "TextureQuality" to 0 to just enable the Ultra Textures and use Medium or Low for the other settings.

    It defnitely changes things. Lighting setting increases normal and specular mapping detail and shaders also. I've tested this a lot during the beta.
  7. direwind

    tbh i really wouldnt turn up the lighting past high... not unless you want to be blined by bloom :DDDDD
  8. GunSlingerAUS

    I'd like to enable these tweaks, but I don't have that file in the folder you've pointed to. However, I do have the file in my main Planetside 2 directory, but its format is slightly different to yours. Any idea why there's a difference?
  9. direwind

    did you open it with text doc or anoter tool?
  10. GunSlingerAUS

    I used notepad.
  11. freehotdawgz

    I was confused at first as well, then I realized that that is the default directory for the game when it installs. I changed mine to custom folder when I installed. Just open ini file that is in the main planetside2 folder.
  12. freki

    I'm not entirely sure if these really are the ultra textures. I used to play with TextureQuality=0 during beta and they looked a lot more detailed. Maybe it's overridden by TextureQuality=1 in Graphics.ini?
  13. Hatamoto

    how hard can it be to just add these things to the menu? jesus ...
  14. Blitzkrieg

    Because Ultra is not supposed to be released. It's not optimized.
  15. Hatamoto

    And the other modes are? ;) i must say its taking too long to add an option to disable fxaa .. It would probably increase performance for many as well. If i could choose i would put less effort into anything other than performance for this game right now .. At the end of the day your ability to fight well is crucial for this game to work.
  16. Phragg

    I've set mine to 5, and at first I thought I noticed a difference, but now I'm thinking it may have just been 'placebo' effect. Can anyone else test/confirm?
  17. thebigJA

    Quick question... the RenderDistance is set to like 999999 by default. How or why is negative one better? I ask purely for information.

    Also that file is in the game directory, not Users/Public etc. for me, and it doesn't have "gpuphysics" (which I'd love to turn on, looked great on borderlands 2).
  18. Auditore1478

    That's the game with gpu physics. It's currently disabled for optimization, IIRC, but it looks absolutely incredible.

    I cut the voices down, do not use in game voice chat, and reduced the chat box and text size as well. Enjoy!

    Note: If your monitor's display is larger than 1920x1080, then adjust these:
    FullscreenWidth=1920
    FullscreenHeight=1080

    If your monitor's refresh rate is higher than 60 FPS, then adjust this:
    MaximumFPS=60

    If you don't have a Nvidia graphics card, then adjust this:
    GpuPhysics=1

    Too light, then adjust this:
    LightingQuality=0

    Too dark, then adjust this:
    Gamma=0.000000

    Need a larger field of view, then adjust this:
    VerticalFOV=55

    Want to see the chat better, then adjust this:
    ChatFontSize=10

    With tweaking to your own liking and keeping your preferred settings, you'll have an awesome looking game to play in. ;-)

    With a side by side comparison, Me and My friend see little difference on out machines so we must be doing SOMETHING wrong.

    Hopefully higher quality settings will be a side note in the 6 month plan.
