Possibly, official lore is unfortunately lacking in much explanation for much.

They leave far to much to the discretion of players to make up which leaves a very unclear picture as miscellaneous players come up with their own fabrications that sound more like faction propaganda for their mains home faction. (case in point: the OP)

And actually, I can't even keep straight what was PS1 lore (which was a bit more fleshed out) and what's been "official" PS2 lore which was re-canon'ed. Prime example, the assassination of Connery was definitely in PS1 lore, but I'm not sure if PS2 kept that or just left that as a "mystery" in PS2.

In one sense, I suppose it allows for players to "blind themselves" by creating preferable canon for their own belief, which is likely what members of that faction would believe anyways... but it seems there should be an official real story here.

And as far as that's concerned, IMO no faction should be "right". Leaders of all 3 factions should be, according to officially lore, manipulative, deceitful, power hungry bastids... that is really the only canon that would sound and feel real to me. (what, me a cynic?)

PS2 lore revealed that Connery was assassinated by Waterson in a bid to get control of the TR. It worked, and in a bid to get control of everything else he instituted lots of horrible things and 200 years of martial law and was basically the master villain of this whole backstory. Pretty much the TR are the unambiguous bad guys this time around.

The VS and NC were probably bros up until the VS were forced to take arms and weren't in a position to share resources with the NC. That's war ya know, I fully expect we'll be at peace with those suspicious pony lovers whenever we get around to scouring every last TR soldier off the face of Auraxis and giving their populace the choice of freedom and technology or their next death being their last.

Really, PS2 should be VS 15%, NC 35%, TR 50% in a VS and NC together but uncoordinated vs TR fight... with maybe minor border/resource skirmishes.

NC and VS really don't have a bone with each other and, according to lore, have little reason to fight each other. They're both trying to fight against TR tyranny.

NC see VS as zealots, and VS see NC (soldiers) as corporate pawns... but that's little reason to be at full war with each other when confronted with a bigger common enemy.

Of course, for gameplay, 1v1v1 is best and the most interesting (when it works damn players. Continental lattice should fix this... in several months ) so screw what's canon or what makes sense.

Resources, basically. Right now it's every faction for itself and the winner will be determined by whoever controls the resource flow the best. The pre-existing connections between the VS and NC were both not strong enough to allow either to trust the other enough to risk the future of their faction and, most importantly, all of the peace-minded of both factions were murdered by the TR when the ship they were holding peace talks on was blown up by Waterson.

I think the NC also felt like the VS couldn't be trusted when it turned out they were developing military tech for the TR. Considering that the VS's refusal to fully militarize (aka to make it kill people instead of making it so their people didn't die, etc) a lot of it put them to war with the TR in the same swoop, it wasn't a very strategic ploy on their part. Knowing the TR though, it was either that or be annihilated.

Except that the TR on Earth are not fascist in the least, and should the Auraxius TR regain control and get contact reestablished we could all return to the utopia the TR brought to Earth millennia ago.

No war, no famine, no strife. All are equal under the ideal socialism, everyone is brother and sister in arms and competes not for anything. The Earth TR are literally the best civilization man has ever known, with nobody being excessively wealthy and nobody being excessively poor.

The TR were mellowed out much more by PS2. Nobody is an "unambiguous bad guy" anymore, everyone is different shades of grey with the TR being the lightest just because they only had to crack down to preserve law and order after everyone got stranded and they didn't want chaos to break out. Then the VS panic when the TR reveal they want to keep the Rebirthers tightly controlled until they can be studied and understood more so that people won't try to abuse them or misuse the Vanu tech (which ironically the VS end up doing EXACTLY THAT). And the NC take the opportunity to pay their private army of mercenaries and criminals to try and take control for 100% capitalism to rob all the people of their wealth and send it to their corporate overlords.

Maybe that is how earth TR got power? If so their roots are just as dirty. (wouldn't surprise me given past tendencies.) though achieving full peace sounds impossible by such means, as how could any such system ever exist without dissenters from remembrance eventually revolting?

NC would be like the USA and other greedy nations whose only goal is to make the all mighty dollar. Low quality everything, pretty much an exact copy of the modern day USA

None of the governments would be worth a crap.

Life under VS rule I give a 50/50 chance of being a complete utopia or complete distopia. There's no middle ground, its either one extreme or another. The human society consciousness would form a singularity through the use of alien technology. What tips the scale is determined by who runs the society at the top. If its run by an autocrat, then life for the average person devolves into mind-control slavery. But if decision making power is more democratic, then humanity transcends into a permanent utopian society.
